Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Any info re Royal Pacific hotel?

Hi there,

In October we are travelling from Scotland to Orlando for 2 nights at universals royal Pacific and 14 nights at old key west

I'm quite clued up in the Disney side of things but not universal, in particular the hotels and restaurants.

We will get to the royal Pacific (all going well) about 5/5:30pm and I'm sure we'll all be hungry (me, dh, dd 6, dd6, dn16 & Dn16). What's the best thing to do re getting something to eat? Is there a grab n go shop in the hotel or a quick service restaurant? I don't want to book a table service meal in case we get delayed etc. and I don't think the little ones would want to sit after such a long day/flight.
Is it easy/far to walk to another hotel for example with a we restaurant?

I can't seem to find much info online

Any other info on the hotel would be great too

Thank you Suzanne xx

You'll love the Royal Pacific Hotel. I stayed there in March and loved it.

There is a small shop off the lobby that sells drinks and snacks and necessities, but it won't be a place to get food for a meal.

If you want to eat at the hotel but don't want to plan ahead, that's fine. Not many meals at US/IOA need to be planned in advance. There are a few table service places at the resort. I think I'd try to eat at Islands Dining Room first. If they aren't able to take you, just go out to the pool and have a meal at the Bula Bar tables. They have a pretty nice menu and it's nice to sit by the pool. There is also Jake's American Grille. All of these are on the first floor of the resort and easy to access.

If you still have energy and want to try something at Citywalk, there are a lot of places to eat there within walking distance of the resort. I'd check in with the Concierge desk to see what they could set up for you. Getting last minute reservations is pretty easy.

Do you have any specific questions about the resort?

They have nightly movies by the pool. Games at the pool in the afternoons. Breakfast at the Orchid Court Lounge off the lobby in the mornings.
Get your Express Passes at a kiosk near Concierge after you check in and get your room keys, and you'll be all set for park time the next day.

Thanks I didn't know how far/if it would be possible walk to city walk so that's good to know. Although eating by the pool sounds quite nice

I don't reckon we'll go to a park as the Halloween parties will be on and im guessing they'll close early to non party people.

Also the info about breakfast I hadn't even thought about that lol!

I'll need to make a note about the express pass kiosk.

I'm glad you loved the royal Pacific, I'm really looking forward to staying there!

Thanks again, Suzanne xx

I found quite a bit of information on the Universal site itself regarding the hotel's restaurants and quick service locations (which Hidden Mickey mentioned), including menus, hours, and pricing:
Also, as mentioned, there's always CityWalk with its abundance of restaurants, many of which you can walk right up to be seated -- although using the Concierge is a great idea for saving some time, unless you all have the energy to be adventurous and wander around a bit.

The hotel itself has activities like the nightly movies, as well as typical amenities like a game room, fun poolside entertainment, etc.

Hopefully this can help you get a better idea of what should be open and easily available to you once you finally arrive and can start your vacation!

Royal Pacific is Beautiful! We've stayed there and at the Hard Rock. Next trip will be back to the Royal. It's a pleasant walk to city walk, and there's also the ferry, so you'll have a choice. The Islands dining room has a breakfast buffet, it's pricey but there's tons to choose from. Jake's has some of the best steaks I've ever eaten! Emeril's Tchoup Tchoup's is on the ground floor and if you want to spend that kind of $$$ on a meal, I think you'd be better off making ressies for the Emeril's at City Walk. We had a far better dining experience there. But the one at the Royal is beautiful inside! The food just didn't measure up.

Your kids will Love the pool at Royal Pacific. DS spent as much time there as he did the parks. For you second night, if you like character dining, you might want to venture over to the Hard Rock and eat at The Kitchen. Wonderful food and service there....plus Scooby Doo and a Minion came by to each table. That was a fun surprise! I don't think you can go wrong with any of the deluxe resorts on Universal. I hope you have an Awesome trip!!

I think RPR is a beautiful hotel and I have had excellent service there. I would not hesitate to stay there.

One time we had a room facing IOA. I could have sat all day and watched the hulk go around.

We were there last year and really enjoyed it. We stayed on the club level and were content eating breakfast there and the offerings at night were enough to take the edge off. I don't really think the price for the upgrade was that high either.

Got to try Emeril's!

We just stayed at Royal Pacific in early April and, like other posters here, enjoyed our stay very much. Hotel was nicley themed and the grounds were impressive. We got there a bit early so our room wasn't ready. We were all pretty hungry so we went to Jake's. Had no reservation but we were seated within 15 minutes. Food was very good, if a bit pricey. Staff was excellent.

We've been down to Orlando several times for Universal & Disney. We had one of our most memorable meals ever @ Emeril's Tchoup Chop. We stopped by right as they started seating for dinner and while we didn't have reservations, they were able to get us a table for 4 near the bar. Staff was outstanding...friendly and welcoming. The food was spectacular from appetizers to dessert. DW had the Hibachi Skirt Steak while I had the "KFC"...Korean Fried Chicken. Both were amazing. Try that chicken!! DS & DD (14 yr old twins) both found something they enjoyed. My son had a special that night...brown sugar crusted pork chop while my daughter ordered the chicken Alfredo tortellini from the kid's menu. Both cleaned their plates...very rare for a couple of picky eaters. Extensive beer & wine list with reasonable by-the-glass prices for the vino.

It's not cheap...I think the tab for the four of us came to around $175. But I wanted to have one nice sit-down meal while we were down there and we ended up very happy with our choice. Very highly recommended.

Thank you everyone for all your replies

I now wish I was staying there longer to try all the different eating places and enjoy the pool longer! An excuse to go back another time

I think once we get there we'll see what's available, it's good knowing they'll be a choice.

Thanks again, Suzanne xx
