As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). More holiday help needed from my passporter friends.
I am giving my older son a gift certificate to an upscale restaurant and babysitting services while he and his wife go out for a nice meal. The restaurant website says $75-200. for two people. Entrees are in the $30./range.
I am thinking $100.00. I don't want them to end up with $20. leftover and feel they have to go again and spend more money. Son and wife are not big drinkers and may have a glass of wine or a craftsman beer, but I doubt a mixed drink.
What is the best amount for a gift certificate. I do not eat out often.
That's difficult. It entree's are $30, times two for two people, that's $60 there. They will probably have some sort of drink, coffee, soda, etc. so lets add $6-7, appetizers (?), dessert (?), and alcohol (?) plus tip. I think $100 sounds about right.
We've eaten in restaurants with $30 entrees and eaten nicely with just two entrees, coffee or tea and tip for under $100.
If you're thinking they might want alcohol or perhaps an appetizer, salad or dessert, I would go with a g/c for $125-$130. A modestly priced glass of wine will typically run $7-$8. Desserts will generally cost $8-$10 in such places, appetizers about that. Salads from $10-$13, depending upon how artsy they are.
Can't advise about craft beer prices as neither of us drink beer.

I think $100 is a good amount. I often get my parents' a gift card to a nice restaurant as part of their Christmas gifts, and that is usually the amount I give them for a similarly priced place. (And my mom doesn't drink, but my dad usually has a martini or two.)

Any time I get a gift card to a restaurant, I appreciate anything it covers, even if it's not the full cost of a meal so I'd say $100 to the type of restaurant you're describing sounds like a good amount.
$100 if the entrees include sides, a little more if they don't. Some of the restaurants we like to frequent do not include sides, so it's $30+ for your meat, then another $15 for your sides. Add a drink and you're into $60-$75 a person.
I think what they'll really appreciate is the time to be alone, knowing the little man is being cared for by someone who loves him!
I have debated where to get the certificate and thought about doing more so they could invite another couple.
I judt want to give them an evening out and am not concerned about them having to chip in a little. They have an income no 30 year old couple should have and have used money wisely so they have no school loans. I have also thought about getting them tickets somewhere.
