Sea bands...YES or NO, (Debating on bringing them ) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sea bands...YES or NO, (Debating on bringing them )
I was thinking about taking sea bands along with us on our Cruise. Has anyone else used them and are they a good investment (first time Cruiser's) ? If anyone has any information on them and how they worked for you I'd love to hear it. Thank you
I have them. I can't remember how much they cost. I've never had any issue on the cruise ship itself but I have used them on smaller boats (like tender boats or if you take for example an excursion) and they work well for me. I've read mixed reviews of them so I think each persons body reacts differently. I can't handle Dramamine so I wore sea bands and had ginger candy in me too just in case. I didn't feel queasy so it was a success.

I think we got my mom a pair at our local drugstore (CVS or something) for about $11. They're re-usable, she swears by them and never leaves home without them.
They do sell them in the gift shop on the ship but that won't help you on your first day because the gift shops don't open until you set sail....normally around dinner/show time.
I tried Seabands for nausea when I was pregnant and they didn't do a darn thing for me. The knobs also annoyed me to no end. But different people react differently. I would recommend you bring a couple of things to try for motion sickness if you are prone to it.
I had absolutely no trouble with motion sickness on either of my cruises and I was worried that I would as I don't do very well on smaller boats. I was completely fine. If you aren't normally prone to motion sickness, you will probably be fine.
I tried them once and they didn't work at all. It didn't make a difference whatsoever if I was wearing them or not. And yes, I do get seasick but no, I haven't found anything yet that helps except getting fresh air on deck.
We didn't have any luck with them either. We used them on our first cruise when DDs were 7 and 9 and they kept complaining they were tight. The left a little mark on their wrists where the pressure button is. Sailing out of Port C. we've found we really only need something the first night out and the last night in. Now we get the patch and use it for the first and last 24 hours and it seems to work for us.
I use Sea Bands (brand name, not a knockoff) all the time. Motion sickness as well as nausea due to other reasons (migraine, medication, etc). I have used them for decades.
For me they work exceptionally well most of the time, and for the other much less common times enough to reduce the feeling of "I am going to throw up any second now" to "I still feel nausea, but it is more annoying then anything", which is a world of difference and a good thing even if it doesn't entirely get rid of it.
One thing I have learned is it is important to hit the proper pressure point. Off by a bit and they don't work so well or at all. When I find them not working really well I always check the placement and adjust as necessary. THe instructions and the official Sea Band website both have good instructions about proper placement.
Note that Sea Bands actually have clinical research supporting them. Yes, they are not perfect, but when they do work it is like night and day, IME.
I have worn them enough that I usually forget they are on. However when you aren't used to them you will probably find it takes a while to get used to the band and to havign the knob on the pressure point.
Another consideration is that if you wear a watch or fitness monitor you may need to adjust location. Normally I wear my Jawbone Up! and watch on the same wrist. When I ear seabands I usually transfer the band to my other wrist so there is more space to work with :-) Although there have been times when I did not switch and I could still wear the seabands fine, it just meant that the watch and Jawbone were pretty fixed in place instead of having the bit of movement they normally do.
FWIW, I have a coworker who normally gets very motion sick. He recently went on a cruise and before he went I gave him a pair of Seabands (er, I keep extra new unopened ones around for just such an occasion, that is how much I find they work). He wore the bands the whole trip and **had no motion sickness**. he was amazed and very very very happy.
This is the best 12-dollar investment you can ever make. My husband got sick on our first two cruises (he gets sick every time he sees more water than a bathtub can hold). He's used the Sea Bands our last three cruises and has not gotten sick AT ALL!
Sea bands...YES or NO, (Debating on bringing them )
the seabands website says they can be put on prior to activity or after the onset of nausea. I usually put mine on only a few minutes before activity. Remember that you'll likely board the ship a few hours before it actually sails.

I plan to bring sea bands on our upcoming cruise. On my first and only Disney Cruise I had extreme motion sickness and had never had a hint of it before that. I also plan to bring meds. The sea sickness took me by complete surprise so will definitely prepare for this next trip.
