Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I can't believe we let Canada tie the game. USA was playing much better than Canada until there were only 3 minutes left in the game.

Tough loss for the US, perhaps the men will get revenge on us tomorrow.

Sunday night

I am not a fan of being IN the snow but I like most of the snow based events. I really enjoyed all of the snowboarding and the new ski events (halfpipe, slopestyle)!

About the hockey game today, all I can say is that I am not sure the US could have done anything to stop that final goal in overtime. It happened quick enough to kind of leave the US's heads spinning there for a second. That said, I think the penalty calls there towards the end were a little questionable, personally. I didn't really see slashing on that first call as much as I saw the US player going after the puck at the same time as the Canadian player went to her knees to block it. And the cross-checking call, I thought, was kind of bogus. It looked like she fell forward and there was kind of more of a chain reaction than anything! But, what can you do? It's definitely a tough loss but a silver medal is better than NO medal!

On to the men's game tomorrow! Hopefully TJ Oshie pulls another fantastic game out of his stick like he did the other day! Go USA Hockey!

some people here feel sorry that the Russians didn't win at hockey since it means so much to them. Am I terrible that I don't feel that way? Would they feel that way about us if it had been reversed? It is a game, but maybe to them, it is more than that. Or maybe I am just cold hearted? I don't know.....

And for Team GB it's our most successful Winter Olympics since 1924 - now how about that as a result for a country that doesn't really do snow?

I just heard a funny....The Canadian Mens hockey team (I am from Canada, keep that in mind LOL), must win against the USA because whoever looses has to keep Justin Beiber LOL LOL LOL. That is enough incentive for Sidney Crosby.....

You're not coldhearted at all. I don't feel bad for the Russians either. They had just as much chance to win as any of the other teams. Same goes for all of the other athletes in all of the other sports. (And it goes both ways too... I am absolutely annoyed/embarrassed/enraged by the US figure skater Ashley Wagner's whining and fit-throwing because a Russian girl won the women's skating and she didn't medal.)

Thankyou. I feel the same way as you do. They had every opportunity to win and it was on their home rink too.

Oh, by the way...you get Justin Beiber

UGH!!! Jonathan Quick couldn't save the day but he honestly looked to be the only player out there today that cared if he was there or not. 31 shots on goal and you can't make ONE in? That game was infuriating.

If I am being completely honest, I think she might be on to something, really. She isn't so much complaining that she didn't medal but that people who fell, when she skated clean (if you don't count her toe catching as she came out of a jump), were scored much higher than her. And she isn't the only one who thinks the judging is suspect either. Dick Button and Kurt Browning both thought something was a little off that Sotnikova scored so much higher.

An excerpt from the article below:
Quote:
Dick Button, a men's figure skating two-time Olympic gold medalist, said he didn't think Sotnikova was the whole package.

It didn't help that one of the judges had been suspended for a year for trying to fix an event at the Winter Olympics 16 years ago. Or that another is married to the head of the Russian figure skating federation.

Since I can't paste quotes(technically challenged you know...). I agree....Siberia...Yes, he will do well there since he is used to the cold. What an embarrassment to our country

Oh, and here is another one that you have probably heard but worth saying again. The Canadian Mens hockey coach said to the hockey players before they went on the ice "now go and play hockey like a woman" LOL LOL LOL.

I didn't follow the skating sorry. So I can't comment except to be fascinated that you knew who Kirk Browning was

It seems though that she doesn't understand the newer scoring system. They explained a lot about it during the men's competition (where the man who won the gold - not from Russia - fell TWICE). They reward people who even attempt the more difficult jumps (quads for men, triples - especially axles - for women) many more points for trying them, even if they fall or stumble on the landing than they do for people who skate clean but choose a program with easier jumps/choreography. Does it entirely make sense to me? No, but the skaters know that's how it is scored and should choose their program accordingly. I also think that even if a skater thinks that the scoring is suspect, it is in no way their responsibility to rant and rave to the press and sound like a sore loser. They have a coach - let that person stand up for them and go to the proper outlets, not crying to the press. Whether she had a point in this particular round or not, Ashley Wagner has had a horrified, disgusted look on her face every single time they've announced a score for her - starting with the team event where she quite blatantly swore like a sailor when she knew the camera was zoomed in on her face. Way to be a role model. And in that instance, the announcers were quite clear that they agreed with her score and when she saw the tape felt that she would understand her mistakes. I just do not think she represents the US with any class, grace, or dignity whatsoever. She seems to forget that it was a huge controversy that she even got into the Olympics at all.

This quote is also from the article you posted, and it helps explain the type of scoring that is used now:
"It's debatable, but not a robbery," wrote Chris Chase of USA Today. "Sotnikova skated well enough to win gold. She had a carefully constructed program with seven triples, five of which were in a combo. Kim had six and three, respectively. Thus, Sotnikova was going in with a higher total and made more margin for error, which she took advantage of with a minor hop after one exchange."
