Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What info to give out???

I am not sure if this is where to post this but since it is a travel agent I am dealing with I will ask here and someone can move me if needed. I have been dealing with mousearsvacation.com that some of you have said were great and I agree that the guy I have been dealing with is very prompt but I am concerned with some info he is requesting from me and want to know if this is normal. He first said he could hold my vacation till November 26th and when I said that was not enough time he said he would be able to hold it till December 3rd and said I could send the info for my credit card to him and this is what he requested..

My type of credit card,my card number, My expiration date on the card,My billing address, my phone number and my pin number. Is it normal for a travel agent to ask for your pin number. I am very uncomfortable with giving out my pin number to anyone . He is wanting me to send him this info via e-mail and I am also not comfortable with this. I am sorry this is a long note but I have always done things myself and I am concerned with all of this personal info he is requesting in an e-mail. Can anyone help me with this?? Has anyone ever done this??

Re: What info to give out???

I made reservations with yourmagicaljourneys.com. They ask for your cc# , address, name and that's all. I figure if they stole people's cc#, they probably wouldn't be in business or so many people wouldn't rave about their service. I just keep track of what I'm making reservations for, and watch for it on my cc bill. As far as I know, the credit card companies protect you against unauthorized charges. You could just email the agent back and let them know your concerns, yourmagicaljourneys lets you call a 1800# to pay if you want to talk to the person. Good Luck! -Steph

Re: What info to give out???

<font color="purple">I have not done this personally, but most of the info is valid. The only thing that is not, imo, is your pin. I would NOT give this to him. As a retailer, it is not necessary for him to have this, he can process a transaction without it, just like anyone would in a store. As for your unease for using email, you should be able to request a phone number or snail mail addy to get him the information. If he rejects that, I would be concerned...

<font color="green">I totally agree!
He has no need for your pin number!

Now if you feel uncomfortable giving our your actual email addy, you can make a yahoo or hotmail addy and make sure he understands he is NOT to record/send ANY of your personal information to that new email addy and should only use snail mail or allow you to contact him over the phone.

Use the new email addy as another means of contacting each other(like voice mail), but not for sensitive, personal information, such as your travel details.</font>

Re: What info to give out???

You should never give out your pin #. Did he maybe mean the 4 digits after the credit card # printed on the back? I know a lot of places do need this. Maybe he called it by the wrong name.

I would not give out the pin, nor send the info via email. If he still persists, I would contact management at the agency.

Re: What info to give out???

As a travel agent that works for an online agency booking only Disney Travel, we ask for the following,

Full name as on credit card, billing address, phone number, cc number and expiration date and the verification code of the credit card (not pin). All this information is required by Disney when you make a deposit on a reservation.

The verification code is something new that Disney is requiring, it's not mandatory right now but will be soon. So most travel agents are getting into the routine of asking for it.

We also advise people NOT to send it in an email as it's not secure. I always call my clients to get the information or they fax it to me to my home fax machine.

I would NOT give my pin number out to anyone.

Hope this has helped

Re: What info to give out???

Thank you for all of the info you have given me. I am currently sending an e-mail to the agent asking why he asked me for this. I am still a little bit nervous about this and tempted to just end it and start over on my own. I hope he just meant that he needed the four digits on the back as others have stated but it still makes me nervous that he would state it as a pin number. Someone who is less wise about these things might give that info out and that would be bad. Any opinions ??

Re: What info to give out???

They are asking for the verification number on the back of the card?? I guess I was under the impression that was something similar to your pin number and not something retailers needed to put a charge through.

I guess why I find it so scary is to access my account on-line I need those numbers to re-instate my account if there are problems (I have one account that there are always computer issues with) and that means anyone underhanded if they have both my cc# &amp; verification # can access my account on-line!! Scary thought.

Re: What info to give out???

Just to update you on this , most of you were right that he just wanted my security numbers that are located on the back of the card . He apologized for the misunderstanding and said that Disney is now requiring it for all credit card transactions. I understand but I warned him that calling it "pin numbers " could throw up a red flag for some people. He agreed but said that is what Disney called it.I agree that this is a weird situation and I am still a little leary about sending credit card info over the internet but that is something I have to deal with. Thanks again for all of the great advice and thoughts.

Re: What info to give out???

Hi,

Thank you for your comments! I am on the staff at MouseEarVacations.com and I would love to explain why we ask for that information! You are right to be concerned, and we are very concerned with your privacy as well.

First of all, we are just the liaison between you and Disney - Disney charges your credit card, not MouseEarVacations.com. Since Disney is making the charges, they require your credit card number and expiration, and have recently started requiring your security PIN. Really, it is all for your safety! The mailing address and phone is also required by Disney, but also so we can send you a receipt and ultimately your documents or contact you if something comes up with your booking.

Your agent will be the only one with access to your credit card information and we all work in locked, private offices. We also accept credit card information by phone (I have a toll-free phone number for this exact reason!), by fax or by e-mail, whichever YOU prefer and makes you feel most comfortable.

We are very happy to help and we do everything possible to protect you and keep your information confidential and secure.

I hope that helps! Have a great day!
