As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). The schools around here don't have Drivers Ed as part of the cirriculum so I enrolled my son in the after school one that we had to pay for.
Today he comes to me and needs help with the homework. I had to answer what would I do if questions like what would happen if he missed curfew when he was driving or what would I do if he had an accident and it was his fault.
And then he had to list things that cost money when driving - 20 of them and that was tough. He had a nice list going but couldn't come up with the last 5 so I helped.
And then he had to come up with 5 dangerous driving areas near us. Um, none? That was another tough one because I don't think we have any but I guess to a new driver there are all kinds of dangerous driving areas so after putting our heads together we found the requested 5 that he needed.
I don't remember ever having homework in Drivers Ed. Anyone else remember that?

My driver's Ed course was a semester course in HS that included life skills, including things like how to write a check. I don't remember any homework, but we might have had it.
My kids had after school driver's Ed and I believe they had to do a bit of homework, not much though.
I only remember that IF you wanted to learn how to drive a manual transmission car,you had to have a parent teach you at home,then if you wanted to take the test for both manual AND automatic trans. you could. Sounds weird now,but that was in 1972.

I took Drivers Ed in 1979 (back when dinosaurs wandered the earth according to my kids). Back then they showed you the video (on 8mm film) of car wrecks and it was graphic - very graphic. I don't think they show that anymore. My kid is on his last 2 classes and hasn't seen it.
I took my test in a manual transmission car.
I was so excited when I bought my first automatic transmission vehicle in 1981. It was a 1972 Ford LTD - dark green.
I use to work at a driving school in the office, actually for 14 years off and on...and at least around here they have really stiffened up the JOL (Junior Operators License) laws.
Driving schools around here are completely mandated by the RMV. They have to follow an approved lesson plan, give tests (which the students have to pass with an 80 or above), even the record keeping is mandated by the RMV. The ONLY aspect that the driving school has any control over is what they charge and how they bill.
Driver's ed was offered at my high school during the summer. We had a text book and had to take a quiz each week. We were in the classroom for part of the class and then out on the road for the rest of the class.

I can honestly say the only thing I remember about my drivers ed class was I took it through the school. I don't remember ever having any kind of homework. If they did give homework, maybe I did it during class.
I also took Driver's Ed waaaay back in 1979, and I vaguely remember tests, but I do know that we had a project to do. We were given a choice, though I don't recall what they were, other than the one I did, which was to drive around town & take pictures of potentially dangerous intersections, road stretches, etc. , and say why they were dangerous & what we thought would improve the situation. I think both my older brothers picked the same project, too.
