As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

With the opening of Carsland does anyone have advice for tackling DCA? A normal DCA day for us is as follows:
1). Be at gate an hour before scheduled opening
2). Park unofficially opens 30 minutes before (is this still the case?)
3). Get World of Color tickets (if planning to see)
4). Get Soarin' FastPass and Ride Soarin'
5). Get inline for Toy Story/rest of the park opening
What suggestions do you have with the Carsland opening? Is Soarin' still the only attraction that is open? Is it worth taking the few minutes to ride Soarin' or should we go directly to the area they hold guests for Carsland and wait? I would think that I DO NOT want to get a FastPass for Soarin' as I want to grab a FP for Radiator Springs Racers and then get in line for the ride straight away. Also, how does Toy Story factor into all of this? Are the lines for that ride still long with Carsland opening?
Last time I was at Disneyland was just over a year ago. I have known 2 people who went over the summer, but neither of these people go to the parks first thing in the morning and take advantage of "lower" crowd levels . Even against my advice, so of course they complained about the crowds when they wandered into Carsland 2 hours after the park opening.
Any advice you could give me would be appreciated. I am considering another trip as early as this November!

They are now holding guests before the turnoff to Soarin'. So you will have to choose - do you want the Radiator Springs racers Fastpass first or do you want the WoC Fastpass and Soarin? If you can do Single Rider at Radiator Springs, I would worry less about that but if Single Rider is not an option for your group, go there first.
Here's what worked for us in August. We arrived at 7:30 for an 8:00 opening. We were a party of four. Two of us waited in the Fastpass line for Radiator Springs Racers. That was about 30-40 min. The other two went ahead and explored Carsland. Then we rode Luigis together. Then single rider at RSR. That was about 30 min. The standby line family that we rode with had been in line for 2 1/2 hours which included the early entry time! Then we looked through all the shops, had lunch at Flo's, and rode Mater. At that point we went for WOC Fastpasses and then Soarin Fastpasses. Used the freebie Fastpass For Grizzly River Run that we got along with the RSR ones. We used our RSR Fastpasses for a ride at night after WOC. We waited that time less than 10 minutes. It was well worth riding at night. I was really glad we got to ride it twice. So awesome! We found the line for Toy Story to be around 40 minutes no matter what time of day we went.
Thanks Sara and Rebecca! We are flying into LAX at 9:30 am and going to CarsLand as soon as we get there, but obviously EME is out of the question. I think we'd be better off going to DL our first day and waiting on CarsLand, but DH hasn't been to Disney in 10 years, and he is beside himself to ride RSR. You give me hope that it will happen without a 4-hr. wait! Single rider line here we come!
