As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I've just about talked DH into going to BB on our next trip (TL will be closed for refurb). He's not a beach-going kind of guy (though he loved CC on our cruises). He's humoring me this time because I like water-related activities and the water parks and more option is a good deal with the military salute tickets. Neither of us likes laying out in the sun (history of skin cancer in my family), but he's perfectly happy sitting in a beach chair in the shade reading a book.
We're going the end of Oct/first of Nov. Anyone know how the crowds will be? Will we be able to find chairs in the shade without going the chair-rental route? The park hours are short - 10-5 - so I'm wondering how that will affect the crowds. Also, can we take our own cooler with snacks, soda, water, etc.?
I'm really excited about trying this park! TIA!

I am so glad you asked this question! We are going to try and get to BB on our next trip during the first week of November too. Ive never been there before, so I have no idea of what to expect either Can't wait to hear what others have to say!
You should be fine crowd-wise. . We've been in November several times and it's been a fun and relaxing day. The theming and water rides are so fun, I'm sure you'll love it!

Not sure about crowds or chair rentals, but this park has a lot of body slides compared to TL. Since we prefer the tube or raft slides, we prefer TL. Of course, since its closed, you don't have much choice and if we were in that situation, we'd go to BB if it was our only choice.
we also prefer TL over BB....... and TL wave pool is so much better than BB... We won't visit BB again we will stick with TL we like the tube and raft ride's..Although summit plummit was an AWESOME body slide my DS and I did it on our 2011 trip,,,but that slide isn't worth another trip to BB for us
Well, TL closes for refurb the day before we get there, and I really want to try a water park this trip, so it's BB or nothing. Besides, I like body slides (not so much wave pools) and all DH will want to do is float around the "river" on a tube then sit and read a book. I'm more concerned about the shade (or lack thereof) as we're not "sun-bathers." Does BB have umbrellas or will we just have to scope out some shade?

We too like water parks (live near a great one & get yearly passes). That said, I was not too crazy about BB and would probably not go back to that park. There were alot of slides as opposed to raft rides and we found it not that easy to find the entrance to certain rides. It also seemed like we did alot of needless walking. Since TL is closed and you want to try a water park I say go for it. Everyone's experience is different. I would recommend downloading a map and looking at it carefully so you won't be wasting your time looking for certain rides. You'll have fun and it shouldn't be too crowded that time of year.

There is plenty of shade. We're not sunbathers at all and it's our favorite water park! We loved the family raft ride and the one where you race in a tube against each other. So fun!

We just went in June 2011 (our first water park visit, too, thanks Military Salute!). We saw lots and lots and lots of chairs in the shade, so that shouldn't be a problem. You just put your towel or whatever on them to claim them and head out to the rides.
What BB has that's excellent is a chair lift to the top!!!! I can't overemphasize how nice that was...DS12 and I walked all the way up the first time and it was a thorough pain. The lines for the chair lift can get long, but there was also a single rider line that moved at a pretty good clip.
You'll have a good time, I'm sure, just so long as the weather cooperates, which it's most likely to do.
BB is alot of fun. We love the Water Park and More option. If you don't love the beach or laying out in the sun, you picked the right water park. The theming is actually winter!
There is plenty of shade in BB. I don't remember alot of umbrellas (maybe in the kids area) but there are alot of roofed wooden structures with plenty of space and chairs. I don't think you will have any problem finding shade. We have been to BB in the heat of summer and still found great spots. We have never rented chairs and we visit water parks 4-5 times each visit - there is alot of space available.
You can take your own cooler of snacks and drinks. No problem (no glass bottles as I remember...otherwise, you can take in anything). There is only CS restaurants and snack carts in BB of course. So, it is usually a good idea to pack something.
Hope you can fully convince your DH. It is really fun and there are several slides and rides that you will enjoy more with others. We love the slollum (sp?) rides.
The real question to ask...will you ride the Summit Plummit????
My kids call it the "Death drop" and most PPers call it the Wedger-maker. However, it is a must do for the thrill-ride water park lovers!!!

Thanks for the info! So I won't worry about the shade issue - sounds like we'll be fine. We'll probably end up eating something there - DH is a hot dog junkie - but I'd still like to have some snacks, ice water, and sodas with us. I *might* splurge on the refillable mug, just to have the souvenir.

Oh yes the lift up to the top is certainly the way to go. I remember walking up thoes steps everyone was passing me by I just couldnt keep up. Lots and Lots of steps my knees were screaming. The family raft ride is really fun. Daughter and I rode it with a family of people who were probably 3 times our size and I thought we were going to go up over the top, was scared silly as we flew down that ride of course now it is a wonderful memory we lived thru. Like the lazy river to go around, body slide ride, well I did the one next to the really big one and would never do it again.

There's tons of shade. My dad and bro both say BB is better than TL from a thrill and water experience. I am not a water person, but I loved it there. Lots to explore, and the lazy river is awesome!
We're debating on whether to visit a water park for our upcoming trip. It will me me, DH, DD(13, DS(13), and DS(4). Is there enough for a 4-year-old to do at BB? Thanks!
