As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I am packing photos. They are going into plastic container. They will not be in a climate controlled area. Is there anything I can stick with them so they don't get too humid???? I don't want them sticking together.

I would scan them all into the computer first, packing them up in a non-climate controlled area for any length of time is not a good thing. But if you must, I would pack some small cloth bags filled with rice to help absorb any accumulated moisture. I would also make it a point to open and check the boxes at least once a month to make sure they are still secure and dry.

I won't be able to check the photos though. Long story but we aren't sure where we are moving too. We are packing things up and putting them into storage. I am thinking of asking someone to keep them in their house. I have close to 5000 photos so I can't scan. It was short notice and I have 16 days to pack the entire house. I am abit frantic.
You can also use normal packets of silica gel desiccant (the kind that come packed with new cameras, electronic devices and the like). They don't wear out, so if you have any lying around, toss 'em in.
The plastic containers should not be vinyl, which gives off gasses that are corrosive to photos. Common polyethylene (like Tupperware and sandwich bags), and polypropylene are chemically neutral.
When and under what conditions you pack them can be important. The warmer air is, the more moisture it holds. So, if you pack the photos on a hot, humid day and store them in a place that gets a lot colder, the moisture is squeezed out of the air and will be absorbed by the photos. So, if it's cool and dry when you pack them (air conditioned room, for example), there's less moisture inside the container - you're off to a great start.

Thanks Dave. Right now I have them in those plastic storage containers. Should I put them in card board boxes instead??? I think I am going to take the really important old photos and give them to my family to hold for me. But there are other ones that I want to keep too.
This yr, who knows what the temps are going to be like. Normally we are dry heat, but this past mth, I think the grass is on a hormone or something-it is growing so fast. It is humid today.

Cardboard boxes, unless specifically designed for photo storage, are not a good idea at all. The problem with paper/cardboard is much the same as the problem with vinyl - most paper contains acid (that's why old paper yellows). Only paper that has been specially processed is likely to be acid-free. If the paper/cardboard is not marked "100% acid-free," assume your photos will be at risk. Plus, cardboard is much less protection should the pictures get caught in a downpour/flood.
Nearly all plastic storage containers are NOT vinyl - but you sometimes find vinyl in photo albums (doesn't make sense, but there you are!). I think U.S. and Canadian recycling marks are the same - #1, #2, #4, and #5 would all be OK for photos. #3 is definitely not good.

Before digital I stored photos in a 6x8 envelope with the negatives. I numbered all the envolepes and made a list what was in each so I could find them easier. I then stored the envelopes in a plastic tote. My pics have been in there for nearly 30 years and still look the same today as when I put them in there.
