As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). We are leaving Friday for 12 days at Disney at then stopping over in Georgia to see my brother and then we are stopping at the cabbage patch museum. I have a good friend and her daugher has asked us to bring her back a cabbage patch kid. I said yes but just looked and saw they were $50. I had offered to bring back a souvinier but not of this magnitude and am not sure how to brouch this subject with my friend. If it were $25 or $30 that'd be ok but $50 to me seems a lot when I have my own 5 to buy for. Would it be ok to ask for half or what should I do? Thanks

She asked you to bring one for her. To me that means she expects to pay. I'd ask her for details about what she might like, and tell her straight up that it'll be $50 plus tax. I'd get the money ahead of time!

Let me back up...sorry I offered to bring back a small souvinier originally from disney. Then we had mentioned we were going to the cpk museum. It was then her daughter said she wanted a cpk and I said ok but I didnt realize until today they were $50 and up. I just cannot and willnot pay that much for her dd. I have 5 of my own to buy for and don't think that's fair of her. How do I back out without there being hard feelings?
I bet her kid didn't know the price either. Just be straight with the mom and tell her that you'd like to bring her a doll, but the price is too much. They probably have smaller souvenier type stuff at the CPK place as well.
I would get her a small souveneer from the CPK place. A key chain or something not too expensive. How old is the child? I would explaint my friend that the dolls were too pricey. Text her and say dolls are $50, But that you will pick up some little souvenier for her daughter, If Her mom really wants her to ahve the doll, she will offer to pay. Other wise an cute CPK pen or pencil it is.

If she is a true friend, I think she would understand that these Kids are not like the one's you find in Walmart. Let her know how much they cost and see how she would like to handle it.
Since it is something she really wants I would let mom know how much it cost and that you are unable to pay that amount of money since you have 5 children of your own to buy for she should understand and if she wants her daughter to have one she needs to give you the money. If she gets mad then she wasnt a very good friend was she.

I would just tell her the dolls are $50 and that's more than you're spending on your OWN family. If she really wants the doll, she can pay you for it, and you can get details -- girl or boy? hair color?
But it sounds like they'd prefer a trinket from the CPK museum over one from Disney, so you can still look for something small there.
And when I think of a "doll from the CPK hospital" I think of the original style -- handcrafted soft face -- dolls, not the plastic head ones you can buy at Walmart. So it may be the one she really wants costs more than $50.

yea she would know the difference between walmart and the cpk unfortunately. I haven't broached prices with her yet but I'm going to tonight or tomorrow. I know her daughter has her heart set on this doll so if she wants to go in half that's fine or more then half but I refuse to pay $50. I mean $20 would be fine for me because she has been a great friend but not more then that.
