Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm more of a Harmony Barbershop person, so that's what we did for DD when she was 5 and DS was about 10 months. (It was his first haircut and he hated it! She, meanwhile, loved it, especially getting "pixie dust" in her hair!) Anyway, I've shied away from BBB because I personally don't like to see my daughter glittered up & wearing nail polish. I get antsy just putting blush & lip gloss on her for her annual dance recital...so take my opinion with the appropriate grain of salt!

I think you'll find most folks fall into either the low-key Harmony Barbershop camp or the all-out-glamorous BBB camp. I've heard great things about both places, too. I think it just depends on your family's preference. Personally, I think kids have a grand ol' time at *any* WDW experience --- it's just the grown ups who have to be ok with the choices they've made...because we're the ones who know what we're missing!

Good luck & enjoy the decision you make!

My DD did it when she was a teen and loved it even then. The girls there are so excited and they get so much attention. I would definitely do it.

If they are Princess fans I would do it, they will love it. My DDs were 5 and 3 their first time at BBB and they had a great time! I would recommend bringing your own princess dress from home though, the ones at the park are pretty pricey.

We took my DD when she was 5 and she absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. Back then she was always dressing up in Princess outfits and was a girly girl, so it fit her personality. The Fairy Godmother's In Training were delightful and put her at ease. I was very impressed with them, because looking around, there were girls of all ages and abilities and each girl was treated as if she were the most special princess. To me, the joy in my DD's eyes made it worthwhile.

My mom was a bit freaked out by all of the young girls dazzled up and commented that it reminded her of a Toddlers & Tiara's episode. In the end though, she had the best time walking around Toontown with DD, while my DS and I rode Space Mountain. A kind lady took my favorite pictures of my Mom and DD walking hand in hand by the Barnstormer. She said to my DM that she just had to get a picture of them because it epitomized the Disney magic.

At age 8, DD does not want to return to BBB or dine with the princesses on this trip, so the money I would be spending at BBB is now being used for tickets to Le Cirque.

If you are able to afford it, and the girls are interested, I would say go and ennjoy.

I would definitely do it if your kids are Princess fans and it is in the budget!

My DD has done it a few times and she loved it each and every time. I think if it is something you can budget in then do it, if she is a princess fan she will really enjoy the experience.

DD wanted to do it when she and I went, but unfortunately my daughter inherited my grandmother's vertical problem and was very tall for the dresses and outfits they had there. I took a photo of her in the store as she was reaching for a dress (excited look), and stopped myself before snapping one of her putting it back (very sad and extremely dissapointed look) after she saw it would not fit her, she has always been tall for her age. I too recommend bringing your own from home, one because of the price, and two, to avoid seeing the faces that I saw on my daughter. I bought her McDonald's ice cream afterwards and it made her happy after that.

I took 7 "girls" this past summer. They were 27, 18, 18, 15, 13, 11, and 8. They all loved it, but it does take a while, especially when you have a ton of them. Two shouldn't be bad. Be forewarned: any hairstyle done requires copious amounts of hair gel. I mean, tons and tons of hair gel. When it dried on some the girls, I could see huge white globules on them.
I would make your appointment for as early in the AM as possible, to get the most bang for your buck, and make it on a day you planned on washing your DDs' hair anyway.
They do make it very special for the girls and the CMs seem to love doing it.

I can not speak highly enough of my daughter's experience with BBB. She was 4 1/2 at the time and still speaks of it often (nearly 2 years later). I tend to be on the frugal side, but I had no hesitation booking a repeat visit for our upcoming trip.

The experience is just plain fun...especially when they're at the age where they don't know it's all a show, it feels real to them! I loved watching her literally transform in front of me. She's adorable all of the time, but her demeanor changed; the way she walked and talked. Great memories for mom and dad came from that aspect of the visit! We had some great experiences with cast members (The bag security guard at Epcot announced the arrival of Princess Emily, which just made her day!) and other guests made several comments about "Disney's new princess." She felt very special throughout the entire day. Definitely worth it in my eyes!

I took my daughter on my trip in November 11 and she was only 2. They say that they want the little girls to be 3 but if they can pass as a 3 year old no one questions their age. She sat for the entire thing and was glowing and smiling ear to ear. That being said my little one is a hair rubber and her appointment was at night so come morning she had it messed up a little bit. They do use a good bit of gel to hold it up so she still looked cute but with little frays from her pulling them out to play with them. She wears her Cinderella dress every day and thinks she is a princess. She has even taken to calling me the evil queen. She will be going again on our next trip in April and I was hoping to go too to do it as a mother/daughter thing but they no longer do adults so I guess I'll be a spectator again.

My daughter loved it! I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I would recommend bringing your own dress though. And, I'm partial to the traditional style and not the ultra fake puffy doo.

My DD turned 3 the day we did it and she LOVED it!
We brought our own dress, bought from the Disney Store online, and there was no pressure at all to buy anything else.

I would try to get a reservation for as early as possible, as I can see how they might get backed up later in the day.

Worth every penny and she was treated like a little princess.
