Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A reason for the "No Children" on ECV's

While at Disneyland last week we witnessed a ECV incident that was really scary..
We were watching the fireworks enjoying the evening. After the show the lights went back on & the crowds started to disperse. The man next to me was on a rented Disney ECV (they are 4 wheeled & large) His little son jumped up into his lap hitting the controls & it was on ! The ECV shot forward at full speed crashing into the crowd. A girls foot was run over and many people were hit as the man tried to stop the run away ECV with his feet on the ground. It didn't want to stop.. The child was flung off either by the Dad or the crashing into people. It was quite a scene. We just watched it all happen before out eyes helpless to stop it.
Yes, the sticker saying no riders, no children is there for a reason..

Wow, how scary! A very good reminder. I see kids riding on laps on scooters all the time at WDW.

The is usually a good reason for the rules. It's too bad people don't always follow them.

Actually, there was a young girl who's foot got run over and her toe looked bad to me. I wanted her to get that guy's information in case she was injured, but she kept saying she was OK.

Obviously this was in an area where there were no cast members because otherwise the cast members would have a) been all over the guy for allowing his son to do that and b) all over the little girl to make sure she was alright.

My mom nearly got hit by an oriental woman on an ECV a number of years ago on Main Street early in the day. We'd stopped to watch the castle stage show and were standing near the horse-drawn trolley that was stopped near the partner-statue hub and the minute the ECV hit my mom's ankle, the CMs on the trolley were all over it. We didn't realize that one of the CMs was a manager. They kept asking if my mom needed to go to first aid. She didn't, thankfully as the ECV had run into the back of her running shoe.

We were very surprised to see lots of kids in laps of parents on ECV's & even worse a grown woman on the knee of her husband / BF?
It was very different in California compared to Florida. I even had a cast member get snappy with me when I asked about a alternate entrance to enter a ride on my ECV..

AT times Disneyland can be too lax on rules. Last week we were exiting the park or heading for flag retreat. They were setting up ropes for the parade on Main Street but not getting people to clear the walkway. I was stuck with people behind me trying to pass while oncoming traffic was trying to squeeze through a foot wide gap. I finally told security. I seen lap seating and unsafe driving but people do not read the rules. I have been knocked over by an old man in a scooter. He just up and made a hard left into people.

I hope that girl is alright. Sad that someone could let a kid get on a scooter and hurt people. Did not know you were in town. Waves hello.

I actually saw the exact same thing in DW last week at EPCOT. A man and woman both on the Disney ECV at the same time. And when I was in an ECV in Dec 2009, I got caught in a crowd exiting MK before a Christmas party on our first night in the park. It was my very first time in an ECV and I was having trouble navigating in the crowd and I got the front wheel stuck in the trolley tracks (I had rented from Walker Mobility) right in front of a photopass photographer on Main Street. Instead of helping me get the ECV unstuck, the CM stood there and yelled at me to get the hell out of the way because I was ruining his shot. He stood there berating me for over five minutes. I was nearly in tears. My mom wasn't strong enough to help me get the ECV unstuck from the tracks. Some complete stranger stopped and help us instead of the completely capable CM who was less than 2 feet away.

I've seen kids riding and bumping the driver's hands, causing it to go out of control on every trip to WDW. Luckily, none seem to have caused any severe injury.
I do see CMs stopping people and telling them it is not allowed, but usually the child just gets off while out of sight of the CM and then they hop back on.

I have seen some other doozies though.
A woman was riding on the back of the ECV, sitting on the head area. Her legs were over the guy's shoulders.

The worst is the people who actually let the child drive.
At Epcot one day, we were behind a woman who was driving erratically. I could see she frequently was using one hand to point things out to the people she was with and seemed to be looking away from her path a lot. When we got close, I saw the reason. A child who was just barely tall enough to see over he tiller was standing in frontnof the woman and was actually driving!!!!

I've actually seen other people letting the child do the driving and laugh when people have to get out of their way.

I have seen it on every trip to WDW and I have NEVER seen a CM ask them not to do it, they just ignore it like it wasn't happening.

I had gone into the restrooms at the end of the building by Peter Pans Flight, DH and my mom had stayed outside, she was trying to turn around and turned her wheel too sharp and tipped herself over, luckily DH was standing there and made sure she didn't go all the way over. Not one CM ever came over to her.

Last January, my Mom in a wheelchair, my sister, 2 brothers and myself (all adults) were in one of the handicapped areas around the hub in Magic Kingdom watching the parade. I was sitting on the ground just to the right of my Mom's wheelchair, so I would not block anyones view behind me in wheelchairs or on ECV's. While waiting for the parade to start, a young child with the woman on the ECV behind me, climbed onto the ECV drivers lap and started playing with the handle bars. The ECV was not turned off, and all of a sudden, the ECV began to move, pushing the childs stroller into my back.
The ECV woman, and the young child's parents with her were very apologetic, and were very concerned if I was hurt. (We had been talking to them while waiting for the parade to start....seemed like nice people.)
I had a sore back for a few days, but for the most part, I was okay. I'm just glad I was the one sitting there, and not my Mom or sister, or worse yet, a small child.
The woman did tell me she learned a good lesson.....to turn the ECV off when parked.
