Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm​. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanksgiving Recipes

Okay, we're headed up to my MIL's for Thanksgiving this year and we want to make something unique for a side dish. Thought it would be fun to get a thread going with the recipes for our favorite Thanksgiving dinner sides.

Anyone got a particular favorite they would like to share?!?

My family always has a most delicious sweet potato casserole...so yummy it's almost dessert! I'm not a huge fan of sweet potatoes but this is one fabulous dish.

Grandma's Sweet Potato Casserole

3 cups sweet potatoes (I use canned)--mashed
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 t. salt
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla

Mix all together. Put in a buttered 1-1/2 qt. casserole dish.

Topping:
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. butter, softened
1 c. pecans (chopped)
1 c. coconut (can omit if your family doesn't like coconut)

Mix topping together (should be crumbly). Sprinkle on top of other mixture. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. YUMMY

That sounds yummy. It reminds me of the sweet potato casserole I had in October at Cracker Barrel.

If I don't bring this dish, I am not allowed in the door at Thanksgiving!

HASH BROWN CASSEROLE (or just potato casserole as my kids call it)

1 bag frozen hash brown potatos
1 1/2 sticks butter
8 oz. sour cream
1 can cream mushroom soup
3 cups shredded mozarella cheese
1 cup crushed corn flakes

Melt 1 stick butter, add sour cream, soup, and cheese. Add potatoes and combine. Transfer mixture to casserole dish. Melt 1/2 stick butter, mix with corn flakes. Top casserole with corn flake mixture. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees till bubbly, at least 30 minutes, maybe more.

we love to have the broccoli rice casserole for a side dish at Thanksgiving:

Broccoli Rice Casserole

1/2 stick margarine
1 medium chopped onion
1 pkg chopped broccoli, thawed
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 small jar Cheez Whiz
1 cup raw rice, cooked

Melt oleo in skillet; Add chopped onion and saute until clear; add broccoli; stir thoroughly. Add soup, stir and simmer several minutes, add Cheez Whiz, mix and simmer a few minutes. Add rice, stir and simmer. If mixture is too dry, add a small amount of water. Put in a greased casserole dish. Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes, till hot and bubbly.

I have also substituted Velveeta cheese in this, but the Cheez Whiz is the best.

My mom wouldn't serve a turkey without homemade baked beans. So I follow suit.

1 12-16oz pkg navy beans
1 bottle 28 oz Heinz Ketchup
1 cup Molasses
3 cups brown sugar
Boneless Pork
1 cup maple syrup

Night before:
Boil beans for 2-3 hours. Let soak overnight.

In morning:
Drain and wash beans.
Add 1 bottle of Ketchup
1 cup molasses
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup maple syrup
Cut boneless pork into small strips and add to beans

Bake at 350 for 3 hours...around the 3 hour mark, taste and if you would like them sweeter add the last cup of brown sugar. Bake 1 more hour.

They are delicious!

I saw this on Food Network the other day and thought I might try it for Thanksgiving. It was on the Thirsty Traveler.

Bourbon Sweet Potatoes

6 sweet potatoes, boiled until fork tender and peeled
1/2 cup fine aged Kentucky bourbon whiskey
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon grated cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix all of the ingredients with an electric mixture at a medium speed until smooth. Pour all of the ingredients into a well oiled baking dish. Bake, lightly covered with foil, for 45 minutes.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Funny, I thought I remembered from the show that they put some cream in there. Oh well, this is what they posted on their website.

1 Pan of cornbread crumbled

2 lg. onions sauteed
Mix Well

Add
4-5 cans of chicken broth
2 tsp. poultry seasoning
3/4 tsp. sage
black pepper to taste
1 stick melted butter

Stir Well
Bake 350-375 for approx. 1 hr.

A got this recipe from our local noon news/talk show. A lady was on from the UT Agricultural Service and prepared this. I'm going to make it to try on Thanksgiving. It just sounds different , but good. Kinda reminded me of something you might try at Boma. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm gonna make it with the pumpkin.

Arabian Squash Casserole

4 c. cooked squash or pumpkin, either mashed or pureed
1 Tbsp. of olive oil
1 1/2 c. chopped onion
1 tsp. salt
2 sm. bell peppers, minced
4-5 cloves of garlic, minced
black pepper and cayenne pepper to taste
1/2 firm plain yogurt (drain thru cheese cloth) to remove excess moisture
1 c. crumbled feta cheese
1/4 toasted minced walnuts

Directions: Preheat oven to 375. Place squash in large bowl and set aside. Heat oil in skillet and add onion. Saute over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add salt and bell peppers. Saute about 5 more minutes. Add garlic, black pepper, and cayenne and saute a few minutes more. Remove from heat and add to squash, along with the yogurt and feta. Mix well and spread into an ungreased 9-inch square baking pan. Sprinkle top with minced walnuts. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly.
