Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I\'ve lost an important function

Allow me to set up the scenario:
First my child had the flu, running fever up and down for several days, returning to school last Tuesday. Then the poor child developed an ear infection which caused his eardrum to rupture. Pain and fever in that one ear.
In midst of flu, we brought home his new puppy. Chocolate lab. He named her Shelby. Might be relevant to mention I've never had an indoor dog before. Ever.

So a friend emails me and asks the following questions...How's Chad? (DS) How's the puppy? How's the carpet? How are you? ...in that exact order.
My response? Chad is better. Will be returning to school tomorrow. Puppy is cute and soft - two extremely valuable qualities to possess for something that is peeing and pooping in my house. Carpet literally swimming in Lysol and Spot something or other. And I can no longer write in complete sentences. Feel like I'm writing telegram. STOP. Must invest in Lysol and paper towels. STOP. No really, stop!

Ok, am much calmer now. Next week I may lose ability to do long division in my head, but for now all is well.

Mom to DS and now DP

Sending some pixie dust your way. Glad to hear DS is feeling better.

And that is exactly the reason, that I don't want a puppy

Re: I\'ve lost an important function

Have you gotten a crate for the new puppy?
If you keep the puppy in a crate when you aren't playing with it - it will be much easier to train. Just take it straight out after you let it out - it won't mess in the crate, provided you take it out every two hours or so. Within 2-3 days, our last 3 dogs were pretty much trained!

Puppy pixie dust!

Re: I\'ve lost an important function

I have a black lab named Annie who lives in the house with us. She's five now (my baby is growing up!!) Anyway, she's great. We just put her outside everytime she went to the bathroom on our floor, and in 2 days time, she figured out she had to go out everytime she did that, so eventually she would just go to the door when she needed to "go." Very painless process, just remember to be consistent. And, it DOES help that they're so darn cute!!

Re: I\'ve lost an important function

After the puppy wakes up, TAKE HIM OUT.

After the puppy eats, TAKE HIM OUT.

After playing with the puppy, TAKE HIM OUT.

This basically means that you are outside most of the day for a few days!!!! Choose a phrase, like "Shelby go potty" and use it constantly. Praise, praise, praise him as he is pottying. Ignore any inside accidents (don't yell, etc)

You can teach your dog to potty on command. Crates are a wonderful tool also. This is their bedroom, their safe haven when they want a time out. Teach your child to leave him alone when doggy goes into the crate.

Have tons and tons of safe dog toys to prevent him from chewing your kid's toys. Get a bottle of Bitter Apple spray.

AND SMILE!!!!! They grow up just as fast as the kids do.

Re: I\'ve lost an important function

Oh, by the way.........a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water (test an area on your carpet first) kills the enzymes in their mess so that they don't go back to the same spot over and over. This is much better and less expensive than the "special" cleaning sprays. Most dog trainers will tell you this trick also.

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Thanks, Linda. Unfortunately, Shelby is pretty much an equal opportunity pee'er/pooper. I've cleaned carpets, tile, and hardwood.

And we are crate training and she is improving. At least that's what I'm telling myself (over and over like a mantra).

But just yesterday morning I'd taken her out of the crate, took her outside. Fed her breakfast, took her outside. Gave her a small treat and went to retrieve my coffee from microwave. Shelby was gone. Searching house in a panic, found her pooping on on the rug next to our bath. She'd been outside TWICE in a fifteen minute spread and had only been back in for 15 seconds. And I watched her "do it" outside already.?!?!

Yep, she's definitely part of the family as she has already learned what buttons to push on Mommy.

Keeper of the Lysol,
Debbi

Re: I\'ve lost an important function

I would like to add a note to the advice Linda R. gave about the vinegar! It will not change the color of your carpet like the spot removers can! I learned the hard way! A carpet cleaning company and our vet, BOTH endorse the vinegar soution! A bit of baking soda added will help with the smells! As for puppy poops! Have you tried only putting his food out at regular times? So, he is not able to eat at any ole time of the day?

I must confess, I credit my hubby for training our dog and she is the best!I would never have had the patience! Ugh! Potty training the kids was enough to make my hair stand on end!

Also, try to take Shelby to the same spot of your yard where YOU want him to do his business! That way it won't be everywhere in your yard too!

Good luck and lots of pixie dust to see you through! Believe it or not, this too will pass!

And, about that cute and soft stuff...I have always maintained that it was a wise plan on God's part to start all babies out that way! Easier for us "adults" to face the trials and tribulations!

Re: I\'ve lost an important function

We always paper trained our dogs 'cause we never wanted to "have" to get home to let out the poor dog who was "holding" it until we got there.
We just put papers down in the area where the dog was confined, usually in the basement or an area off the kitchen and within a short time, they would only go on paper. (this can have an unfortunate side effect if you leave the Sunday paper on the floor for any length of time)
However, even given that she is paper-trained, our Dalmation, Spot, prefers to go outside.

Debbi, keep up your strength! You've gotten some excellent ideas here, and it sounds as if your on your way. And yes, I fully believe God knew what he was doing when he made babies cute and lovable. I think a lot of species would have died out a long time ago if not
