As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

View Poll Results: How does your hospital handle tv and phones
Some of you may remember that mom was in the hospital two weeks ago (she's doing much better, thanks for all the Pixies). Well Paula (anyone remember her from my stories?) came over on Saturday night and as we were talking about things, mom mentioned how there was nothing on TV at the hospital. Out of 99 channels, she didnt' like any of it. Paula was really surprised by that. The hospital she goes to makes you pay in advance (in cash) for not only the TV but the phone also so needless to say when she was in the hospital last year, she spent the whole time staring at the walls. The hospital we go to we don't have to pay for anything - TV and phone are included. I'm sure it might be included in what the insurance pays somehow but it doesn't come out of our pockets but that is just a really weird concept to me - that you have to pay for the tv and phone in a hospital.
How's it work where you guys go? I'm just wondering which hospital is the norm. I like to think it's ours but even if ours isn't the norm, I like it. It's big and bright (and affiliated with Mass General) whereas Paula's is small and I hate to say dumpy but it was very dark inside and I just felt very uneasy the day I was there to visit her (and it's not affilitated with any major hospital here in MA).
I can't update my poll (I was too quick with hitting send) but I thought of another option - neither are included but are billed after leaving the hospital.
I'm sure there's other options too I could have put but whether what you have to say is included or not, I'm curious to hear what happens at other hospitals for these two things.

When my wife was in the recovery room after giving birth to our DS, both the phone and the tv were on a cash only basis. They would come and collect the money each morning and it was good for a 24 hour period.
What else do these Big Corporate Businesses expect from us now?????? The Big Hospital where I am located have the telephone and tv in the rooms at no extra charge as of yet. This is the first I have heard of Hospitals charging for these services.
We live here in southeastern ma and at our local hospital. You have to pay for the tv every morning. Phone was included to receive and make local calls. Anything long distance is paid by you.
I remember as a child, many, many years ago visiting relatives in hospitals in Rhode Island and my parents putting cash in an envelope for the family members TV rental. I vaguely remember small TV's that were placed on an arm that swung over the bed when my first child was born 27 years ago and also remember that I didn't have one. I know I was asked if I wanted one (I declined) but I don't remember there being a cost. There were larger TV's when my other two were born and they had a hospital channel with some programs you were expected to watch.
I remember as a kid visiting Grandparents in Hospital( when you were old enough to go in) and TV had to be paid for in advance. But that was the late 60's-early 70's. The "TV Lady" would come around to see if you wanted it. I think it was like $2-$3 per day.
Our Local Hospitals and also Baystate Med.... TV and phone were included in the room. Local outgoing calls only though.....
Funny thing when I was in overnite at Baystate.... I had to keep asking them to put the room phone off to the side it took up too much tray space and any calls I would be getting would come to me by cell phone. When I was awake and co herent enough to use it. I took pictures of myself and sent them to Friends who had cellphones to let them know I made it.
I did not realize that there are Hospitals that still charge for TV...and Phones... I thought those were called Nursing Homes

OMG!! I have been working in the healthcare field for almost twenty years now and this is the absolute first I have heard of hospitals charging a patient for the use of their TVs and telephones..that is just completely absurbed!!! Like the cost of the room and all that comes with it isn't expensive enough, now they are going to go a step above and charge for everyday necessities?? And yes..in this world today..a phone and TV is a necessity, not a luxury!! GET REAL!!!
The hospital where I work includes TV and phone as part of the room charges. Patients and visitors can also get free internet as long as they have their own computer with them.
My mother was an ICU nurse when I was a child. She frequently didn't have childcare for us, so we spent a lot of time at the hospital. We also spent time IN hospital, at times. Then the hospital charged for phone and TV.
When I had oldest 27 years ago, phone and TV were charged for also - and there was only one TV in the room for 2 moms. I refused to pay so the 'ho' next to me could watch it (she and her "baby daddy" did some things in her hospital bed my doc. told me to wait 6 weeks or more to do!!).
Second child - I think we paid for the phone, but not the tv (17 years ago).
Third child - didn't pay for either.
When you have hospitals that are competing, it's common for them to offer things that they didn't use to.
Actually, your mom is being charged for that TV and phone. It's included in the room charge. I would look more at what the price difference for the rooms are - all hospitals have a base fee.
