As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Do guys really have to wear a jacket and tie? What's the real deal? DH only has one dress/nice jacket and it's Black, it doesn't really go with khakis and I really don't feel like bringing his good Black suit with tie and dress shirt/belt and dress shoes just for one night.
Can he wear a nice pair of pants and a button down shirt? Does he need a tie? What about shoes? All he has are sandals, sneakers and his one pair of good dress shoes (heavy to bring). He does have a nice pair of brown leather sandals but the more I think about it, I'm thinking we'll just forego Palo this time and maybe try it if we ever get to take a longer cruise because then he'll get 2 nights out of wearing his suit.

The code at Palo has become more relaxed over the years. At this point, he shouldn't be turned away for khakis and a button-down shirt, but he may feel a touch under-dressed. Dressier slacks and a long sleeve dress shirt (with or without tie), or a jacket without tie is closer to "normal" these days, and a good number of folks still go full jacket and tie. Blue jeans are still definitely out.

Not sure what length cruise you're doing, but if they offer brunch, you may want to consider that. He wouldn't feel out of place in khakis, nice sandals and a camp shirt.
But I think he would feel underdressed without dress shoes & dress shirt for dinner.
The night we went to Palo - with my DH in a tux (it was our honeymoon and he's one of those weird guys who likes to dress up) - there was a man there in, I swear, a t-shirt with a plaid shirt, not buttoned, over it. Can't recall what his pants were like. I was really pretty surprised to see someone dressed that casually at Palo. While no one else was as dressed up as we were, the men mostly wore button-down shirts or sports jackets. Don't recall too many ties.

My husband is not a "dress up" kind of guy. I will say most likely he will be wearing either Khakis or Black pants and a nice button down shirt. Tie optional.
I think you should dress up for Palo, but make it what you want it to be. If you want to go full formal great. If you want to be dressy that is fine too. Really I didn't pay much attention to everyone else.

If we ever get to go on a longer cruise with a formal night, I think he'll bring his suit and I'll even bring a nicer/fancier dress but for 3 nights and packing for 10 nights at WDW on top of the cruise, I just can't rationalize bringing heavy dress shoes and such just for one night/meal. (Even if it is Palo!)
To sum up......I think we'll chance it!

Enjoy your dinner - you will LOVE it, and don't miss out on the chocolate souffle for dessert! I have contemplated going up to Palo JUST for dessert! LOL.

DH wore a nice button down blue shirt w/tie and black slacks and I wore "little black dress" with heels. Kind of the middle road or what we would wear to a wedding. He did have his suit coat with him, but that was for walking out on the deck that evening since it was chilly. He didn't wear it to dinner.
Just a heads up: The only time I saw someone turned away at Palo was before they opened for a Tea service...a gentleman and his wife came up and he was wearing very nice pressed khakis...shorts! Shorts are a definate no no for guys at any of the serving available at Palo - even if they are dressy and pressed. She was in khakis capris (also pressed and nice) so i think nice shorts/capris are ok for women - just not for men.
If you ever take a longer cruise, say 7 night or more, why not try the tux/suit rental? Its not that expensive and its waiting in your stateroom for you when you get there and you can leave it there when you leave - no fuss no muss! You can get a tux (my DH wore it to both Formal and our Palo night) or a nice suit for less - saving on luggage space but still dressing up for the occasion.
I am part of the team that feels that its nice if everyone dresses up for dinner and the shows...it makes great photo ops and creates a special atmosphere to the evening! Plus you can always go and change before hitting the after dinner events - like the adults only area or the pool!
