As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It will be CRAZY hot!!! And then you have the hurricane season to worry about!!!
Ok, Now that I have scared the pants off ya!!!
Yes, it will be hot but with the right preparation you will be fine!! Just wear light clothes, lots of sunblock, drink tons of water, hair up and find some sandals that are comfortable!! Make plans to do alot of inside things!!
Tracy is right - it WILL be hot and humid with a brief thunderstorm most afternoons. It's already in the 90's here and very humid. Like she said, wear light, comfy clothes, plenty of sunblock and take lots of rest breaks and water breaks! The good news is that all our schools are back in session so the crowds will be moderate to low. The heat is easier to deal with if the crowds aren't unbearable. Hit the parks EARLY in the AM, break around 1PM for the resort/pool/rest and then head back in the evening.
We went last year in August and while it was hot & humid, I didn't find it any more unbearable than our summer here in NJ. I figure if I am going to be hot, might as well do it in Disney!
We've gone that time of year and it is definitely hot and humid. For me, however, the worst part was the rain... lots of it! We caught the tail end of a hurricane and probably had some storms every day. But we've been totally spoiled, as our favorite time to visit is November, when there is hardly any rain. That being said... just be prepared, have a positive attitude and you'll do fine. After all, I'd rather be in a hot, humid, rainy WDW than anywhere else on earth!
It's gonna be HOT...Light clothes, bring some or buy some of those light rain ponchos just in case, sun block too, and hats to block the sun... and no matter how stupid people think they are, those "hand held spritzer fan thingys" they sell in the parks REALLY DO WORK!!! Good luck and have fun!!!
And if by going in August you're crazy, then count us in. This will be our 3rd year in a row visiting in August. And out of all of our trips, it will be the 5th in August, the rest were all in July.
We went last year in August and are heading there again this August. I was worried as well thinking about the heat (we have traveled in May, December and June and it was always bearable) but I really surprised myself and it was not as bad as I had thought. It was hot and humid but as others said if you plan your days well, drink lots of water and take some AC breaks it is a great time to go.

I've gotta admit when we first went in late July, I found one of those fan spritzer bottles an absolute lifesaver. Really handy with its built-in lanyard. Yeah, those are great. Get one without a doubt. The ones sold at WDW are sturdier and hold more water than others I've seen.
Do pack more lightweight shirts than you think you'll need. I sometimes changed my shirt three or four times a day just to have something DRY next to my skin.

Welcome to the boards. We go in Aug each year and like it better than June or July because the crowds are less and we usually have rain in the afternoon. Wear light cotton shirts and shorts. The fan misters are great and I usually pick them up at Walmart before we go. Drink lots and lots of water and plan for afternoon breaks. We'll be there the same time. Maybe we'll run into you.
We will be going down in August too! We went down a few years ago, swore we would never do it again, but with one going off to college and our last family hurrah and free dining, we are doing it again! Yeah its going to be hot, and the pool will be crowded, but be patient and have fun!

not our favorite time to go (we like late Oct-Feb)
we have done some August trips. We just love cool weather and less people.
be prepared to some shows and activities cancellations due to weather or if you are in one of the water parks they can close them (but then you can come back when they open or get a rain check)

My thoughts exactly! We are even going again this August!
We go in late Aug. all the time. I don't work in the summer (school). We may be weird but the heat doesn't bother us.
We do like Judi says: Get to the park at opening, take a mid day break back at our resort for a swim, R&R, go to dinner, and a park with evening EMH.
Pack ponchos for those afternoon showers. They are pretty isolated, and usually short, it can be raining at MK, but not at WL. Stay hydrated.
One year we bought those fan sprayers, ( at Publix) but nobody wanted to carry it, pretty heavy. We ended up giving it to a family in our resort next door!
Was in WDW one year in late August and had a great time... there were some amazing thunderstorms and one night a tornado warning! Exciting but had our showing of Fantasmic cancelled... will see it one day!
