As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). This is probably a stupid question, and I've scoured the boards looking for it. I was checking out the menus on Allears for our upcoming trip and saw the one for the Garen View Lounge Afternoon Tea. This isn't something that you can use any credits for on the DxDP is it? Obviously on the regular dining plan I wouldn't think you could, but on the Deluxe is it available.
This trip is myself (28) my mom (56) and my DD (6) I think my mom and daughter would love this, as a little surprise, and if we could use a credit for it that would be awesome cause we have one leftover. If not, I still might consider paying OOP for it, cause overall, the price seems decent. How does everyone dress for this tea? Also, what are youd favorites? I like the Buckingham Palace offerings. They seem good. And of course the Mrs. Potts tea for my DD. We have a day that we are doing 1900 Park Fare for an early breakfast and then Cali Grill for dinner @ 9:00 so during the afternoon seems like a good time for tea. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
We did it in Dec and loved it! It is not included in the deluxe dining plan. i would say that people were dressed a little nicer than i saw in the parks but not overly so. dbf had the buckingham and love it. i had the cheese platter and it was awesome! it is something we plan to do again.
As others have said, this experience is not included on the dining plan, but a wonderful treat! I took my 9-year-old daughter last trip and she loved the Mrs. Potts tea. I highly recommend this!
Sadly, it's not on the Deluxe Plan - I wondered exactly the same thing before our December trip too. We went in park attire and didn't feel out of place, but some of our PassPorter party were very nicely dressed.

We usually end up getting the Buckingham Palace, which is a little bit of everything, but it is VERY filling and delicious!
We also always go in casual attire (whatever you wear to the parks is fine), but you will sometimes see people dressed up as well...like the red hat society ladies
I actually just took this off my list of potential things to do on my solo trip. It may be different at Disney but I'm visiting my sister here in MD and we went to a tea room today.
If it wasn't for her friends being so entertaining (they are so fun!), I would've hated it.
I found out today that sitting around drinking tea and eating little sandwiches and stuff solo would not have been fun at all for me. LOL

We love this experience, and it's just DH and I. We always have the Buckinham Palace and plan for at least an hour and a half to two hour experience to really relax and enjoy the afternoon. We plan a park afterwards that allows us to dress nicely and not feel uncomfortable in the park at the same time.

You and I are cancelling each other out, then, Connie. I LOVE going to tearooms for the beautiful decor and relaxation of sitting quietly sipping and nibbling.
I do wish we'd done afternoon tea when we were at the GF recently, but we had dinner rezzies we wanted to do and figured we'd eat far too much too late in the afternoon to be at all hungry for dinner. If a person wanted to eat dinner very late, that would work, but we must eat our evening meal earlier in order to stay on a medication schedule.
As for the OP question, I'd suggest nicer clothes than park hopping attire. Granted, quite a lot of people don't bother, but we both enjoyed the experience of dressing up for dinner and would definitely do so for afternoon tea. We think we appreciate the experience more when we go to the effort of "getting fancy."

The front of the building said Maryland Antiques.
The front couple of rooms were the tea room and then there was another doorway that was locked that could lead to an antique shop at the back.
It was on SR 5 I believe near Lexington Park, MD. I didn't drive to it so I'm not 100% sure.
One trip I had this planned for me, dd & dd's dad but we have friends that live in FL so dd's dad went out with our friend S and his wife and dd joined myself and dd for tea. It was great and while we were sitting there by the windows looking out over the GF Cinderella's carrige drove by. We were all just sitting there with our mouths hanging open staring at the geourgous carrige going by. There was a wedding that afternoon that we got to see the bride and groom for. It was lovely and dd & I plan to do it again next summer.
I will be doing this for the first time when I'm staying at the GF in May. Sounds like a great experience. Also plan on a late dinner in DD that night, so I'm not too full for dinner.
