As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I guessed that from the name. I still don't know why I am taking them. I have been asked by eye doctors in the past if I had ever had my thyroid checked. I asked the last one to ask me that why he asked. He said that it was from the way that I blinked. I told him that when I thought of thyroid medication I just thought of overweight people making excuses for themselves. He just grinned and said "And you weren't going to be one of those?" That's right.
My diabetes doctor says that I don't look like anyone who has ever had a weight problem, but I did get a little heavy while depressed because I didn't cope well after my sister and mother died close in time. My sister and I were twins; and I know that it sounds really weird, but we knew when each other was sick. My husband and I had gone to bed, and I woke up in a lot of pain like my skin was burnt. It wasn't, but my sister's was. She died from injuries sustained in a fire, and I felt it. I called my mother to ask what was wrong with Althea. I wasn't surprised when she told me that she had died hours earlier. I had told my husband before I called that I believed Althea was gone. It took me a long time to get over the sense that a part of me had died with her. My mother didn't get over it, and maybe it was because she was already sick from Lupus. I don't know. I just remember her saying that there was nothing more criminal than for a parent to bury a child.
At that point in my life I did start to pick up a little too much weight so the doctor is wrong that I have never had any extra pounds. If she means it when she says that I look like I haven't, looks are deceiving. I am not sure what other reasons thyroid medicine would be prescribed to me.
it may be the first time that that man is actually paying attention to what he eats and how much. since i'm diet controlled there are times i sound like him, especially in WDW where i had to plan my days/meal to allow for some of those awesome desserts!!
Tee! Hee! I was reading another site where people were talking about desserts, and the dieters were all unhappy about abstaining. I suspect many of the desserts are healthier than many of the entrees considering how many entrees are breaded, fried, and otherwise designed to hold lots of evil-doers. I suspect that the appetizers are the worst things on the menu. Even a salad can be full of calories, carbohydrates, and fat depending on what is in it and on it; right?
If you feel like you are really missing out if you don't get dessert, by getting something with fruit or light ice cream or the real McCoy chocolate as opposed to that dyed-corn-syrup garbage called chocolate, you probably aren't doing anything too wicked. The whole point of processed foods is to trick us in my opinion. The more the "food" is loaded with excess salt and sugar and various chemicals we cannot pronounce, the less we are getting of what we at least thought that we were paying for.

That med is prescribed if your thyroid is under active, if you are losing weight since you started on it- the med may be the reason why- has your MD checked your thyroid levels since you started on it?

Just a quick comment on Thyroid..it can be a disease of the thyroid that is not making it work over/under. I have Hasimoto's Thyroiditis, and it's amazing what your Thyroid controls. Dry hair, brittle nails, dry skin, depression it can even cause heart issues. The littlest insignificant thing can signal thyroid issues, better to be safe than sorry, and an undiganosed thyroid can take a person down a road you don't want to go down.
I was removed from the Warfarin blood thinner yesterday because a blood test said that the dosage was too strong for me. I was told originally that it was very important to not miss a dose because I could have another embolism. Now I am being told that I could have internal bleeding and no one would know. That explains why I am getting such dark and long-lasting bruises at my injection sites.
At least if that blood thinner goes, I will have the Vitamin K restriction go away. I thought that I was going to weigh more at my last appointment with the diabetes teacher because weight gain is supposed to be a side effect of my insulin. I had lost a couple of more pounds since the doctor's office so the diabetes teacher said that my weight loss has to stop because it is now in the danger zone.
Does anyone else here just want to laugh at medical professionals who want you to gain weight while they know that you are on conflicting diets for different conditions? I probably should not find anything amusing about this, but their demands are reaching comical levels.

Thank you. I hope so too because I was put back on the blood thinners again today because clotting risk is up. I am returning to the hospital for another blood test on Thursday. I was put on the scale again today. Weight is still going down, and I don't know why because I am eating.
I know that I don't like all of this because I don't want to be a professional patient who goes to medical appointments every couple of days. I want to be a normal person who goes to work. I sure hated missing new employees' orientation for a job that I thought that I had before I was in the hospital, but I was in the hospital the day that I hoped to be at orientation. I really want to go to the Census job that is supposed to start next month. I really hope that more medical problems and resulting inconvenience don't mess that up for me because the the Census office said that I got a terrific score on the test.
I am going to go look for a happy subject here and try to think about something happy.

I am 27 and was put on blood thinners when I was 22 years old because of pulmonary emboli (35 of them to be exact from what they could count on the CT pics). There are so many conflicting stories on warfarin(coumadin) out there. I do know (received the papers from my docs conference) that warfarin can cause so many problems that it is just used now because it is the most readily available drug that will thin ones blood. I also know that there are several meds that are in different stages of FDA approval and one that is close to approval that will require yearly testing. I cannot find those dern papers right now or I would share the names. Ask your doctor about traveling and make sure when you are driving that your legs are not bent (to the best of your ability) and that when flying you get up and move your legs around. Also when driving, try to stop (if possible) every 2 hours and walk around for about 10 minutes. You may ask about Lovenox shots. These shots are used in leiu of warfarin in patients that are having medical procedures done because it is easier to reverse the effects of the lovenox thinning agents than it is to reverse the warfarin. I might also suggest the TED hose that they use for patients who are in the hospital for extended periods of time. They promote circulation and they do make them to look like panty hose now :-) I was taken off of my warfarin last Sept. due to a bleed in my ear that they thought was a sign of a brain bleed. It luckily was just a scratch and because I was taking prednisone for an allergic reaction to something it thinned my blood my PT was 8.1!!! I am taking one aspirin a day and when traveling for anything greater than 3 hours I take lovenox shots and supplement with baby aspirin.
also look for the leg exercises that you can do while sitting as there are many times on planes that standing and walking around isn't allowed but there are things to do to prevent the blood pooling in the legs. the compression stockings are useful, there are a number of brands TED, JOBST and Medivein all come to mind. They come in a variety of compression strengths. If your doctor writes a prescription for them and you find the store that your insurance approves, the cost of the stockings will be covered, if your insurance covers things like that. my insurance covers them a little bit. Make sure you have them fitted, wearing compression stockings that don't fit right can cause you problems.
