As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
For a WDW rumor nut like me, this one could be the ultimate rumor. Both a dream and nightmare at the same time .
There are three primary possibilities that I have heard about. The first is the most talked about, the Disney Villians theme park, which would have a lot of coasters. While an "evil" counterpart to the Magic Kingdom would be awesome, the problem is that WDW is still for kids (no matter how many times we tell ourselves differently ), and a dark theme park could be too scary.
The next I heard of is a Coaster Kingdom park, pretty much the same idea, minus the Villians theme and themed around the world of roller coasters. The third I know of is a park to compliment Disney's California Adventure, only focusing on the beauty and magic of Florida. There are also rumors of a DisneySea park, but not as credible that I know of.
As for the date, well...I would just go by the pattern of former openings...Epcot opened about 10 years after MK, MGM about 7 years after Epcot, and AK about 9 years after MGM, so what's that, an average of 9 years? I am no good at math, umm...1998 + 9 = 2007, yeah, I think that would be a good target date, maybe '07 or '08.

DisneySea would be way cool!
The coaster thing would be okay, perhaps it would help bring in more teens/young adults, but I would be afraid the Magic would be lacking.

The coaster thing would be the competition for IOA. Would love to see DisneySea!

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
The Florida one sounds cool! I would like to see that! I hope they don't do a park just full of coasters. I love roller coasters, but what makes Disney rides special is the theming. This is why WDW will always do better than UV/IOA in my opinion. With the Florida theme, Disney could still do lots of coasters and thrill rides, but with a creative theme. That way, everyone is happy .

Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
Watching the Travel Channel special last nite started me thinking about what
the new park could be at WDW. I am sure that they are in the process of
building and constructing it right now. Does anyone know what the theme is
going to be for the next park and when it will open?

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
Well, I know it won't ever happen but I'd vote for Disney's America, even if it is in Florida and not Virginia. After all the patriotic ferver following 9/11 they might even be able to pull it off.
If you want to see a web site with info on the Disney park that never came to pass, click here . Part of it ended up as Paradise Pier at DCA.

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
I think that any of the above sound great except the coaster park. I love coasters, but that is not a Disney concept.
A Villains Park would be great if it were a Heroes and Villians Park.

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
Yeah, we were living in Centreville, VA when Disney America was announced and we were SO excited with the news! We were very disappointed with the opposition to the project - I mean gimme a break already, but alas, we all know Disney pulled out. Too bad, because we'd be enjoying that park right now. I'd love to see it re-created in Florida. I think that the combination that Disney does with thrill rides, shows, and more gentle attractions works for them and as long as they have a diverse appeal a park should work.

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
I like the idea of a Fl or America park or a combination. I don't like the idea of a coaster park because it doesn't seem Disney.

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
I have 3 kids that would love the idea of a Disney park devoted to coasters. Whatever the theme, Disney always manages to come up with that something extra to make your ride experience above the rest. I didn't realize that until we went back to Six Flags after our first Disney trip. Six Flags has rides, Disney has experiences!

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
I think Brant's probly right on the timing. It's a bit of a ways off at this point.
The coaster/villain park seems like the most prominent rumor but, personally I like the looks of DisneySea.
Before we get a new Park though, I'd like to see...
- An addition or two to World Showcase (including a mountain coaster). Love the idea of the Matterhorn back there.
- New full size Lands at AK--Beastly Kingdom and or Australia. Love the idea of a Killimanjaro ride/coaster in Africa.
- Something new in the 20K Lagoon at MK.

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
I would love to see a DisneySea type park in FL. From everything I have read, it is how a park should be done, and what Disney Imagineers can accomplish when they have the money to fulfill their visions.

Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
Just a vote for the coaster park! I have older children and we all love coasters! And you know Disney now, they will make sure it is extra cool and fun for everyone, I'm sure. If anyone can pull that off, it's Disney!! Probably any plans they have for a future park, I will love! Re: Next WDW Park- When Open and What Theme?
I'm with TINKN on the Heroes & Villains Park idea all the way!! I've seen pictures of kids at a villains character breakfast before and it looked liked the kids were totally enjoying themselves. I'm sure disney could put a mixture of just hero attractions, just villain attractions, and hero/villain attractions. They could even add a rating to each attraction, so parents would know whether or not it's right for their little ones.
Does anybody know if the villains character breakfast is still going on? If so, where & when?

Sorry, I don't believe that there is a Villains Character Meal anymore. Many were dissapointed when they did away with it.
