We are planning to stay 5 nights in New york before flying down to Disney in Oct. Me, DH & DS's aged 11 and 7. I having been looking on net for a hotel. Very confused. Has anyone got any suggestions?? Preferably a hotel that allows children to stay free. Some I have looked at are more expensive than the 9 nights at disney with passes is costing !! [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img] There must a hotel that offers good quality and value?

We were thinking of a show and thought about Lion King??

My family has gone to NYC three times in the past year. We have stayed in Secaucus, NJ getting our 3* hotel rooms on priceline for about $35 a night. You walk out of the hotel, get on the NJ transit buses and are in the Port Authority within 15 - 20 min. That puts you within walking distance of the theaters and able to use the subways. I know of web sites that will give you discount codes to Aida and Beauty and the Beast (we've seen both) but there are no discounts available to the Lion King. Orchestra seat tickets are $100 per person and you really don't want upper mezzanine seats (had those for Phantom)
because of your distance from the stage.

I tried priceline but they cannot guarantee a room would be suitable for 2 adults and 2 children. How did you book?

When I e-mailed them they said to book 2 rooms - The boys are too young for a room on their own and I don't fancy staying in a room by myself!!

How do you book family rooms? 2 double beds will be ideal. [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]

We stayed at the Times Square Hilton and had 2 connecting rooms when I took my family and my parents up last year. It's a rather expensive property though, but it's just about the closest hotel to the New Amsterdam Theatre where The Lion King is showing - it's a phenomenal show - you'll love it.

We received the same info from priceline. Also, NYC and surrounding areas seem to have more one bed hotel rooms than not but you can call and request a room with two double beds a few days before arrival. Because of the ages of your childen your request shouldn't be a problem. If you are still worried go to www.biddingfortravel.com - it gives a list of some of the hotels that are accepting bids in the area you need, the price(s) they are accepting for the dates you need, reviews, and general descriptions. You could try calling the hotels directly and asking what they could do for you if you estayed with them.
Also, I think that the Times Square Hilton does sometimes accept bids from priceline for about $100 a night. My husband and I are going to try for a midtown hotel in the fall because we have found a place to park in NJ for our long weekend and don't have to drive or deal with parking in NYC.

I have now booked 5 nights in New York through Priceline and got the New York Hilton for $110 a night! I will do as suggested and contact them a few days before and ask for 2 double beds.

I also got flights from JFK to MCO for $140 each which I think id really good? It took me a couple of hours on the phone and internet but I think I have it all sorted!!

I have also been looking at all the posts about TTC v Mears and have calculated that I will cheaper with TTC!!

I've used Priceline twice now, after reading nearly every review of every hotel in Orlando. (Dennis -- my DSO -- calls me the "research queen".) Here's what I've discovered most people do if they aren't given they type of room they want/need at check-in: don't get nasty with the desk clerk, just take what they give you, then wait about an hour, go back to the front desk and ask a different clerk for help. Seems to work pretty well.

Definitely call ahead and explain your situation, but don't get put off if you happen to get a rude clerk. There's almost always a way to get what you need. I love NYC! We were there 2 years ago -- saw something like 6 Broadway shows in 4 days. What a great trip!

Thanks , I will definitely give "being very nice" a go. The worst case is we get a King and have to ask for a roll away for our 11 year old.

I can't wait now, getting excited already.
