Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A Goofy Trip Report

GoofyKid wants me to type a TR of the day we spent at the Mall today! So indulge us please with our goofiness. We really don't get out much. And we did go to Winnipeg's Largest Mall.

First off, we had to leave the house bright and early for a very quick walk to the bus (1 mile to busstop) We made it in under 15 minutes because we had to run the last half a block. This is a very important part of our TR because I've only ridden the City Bus twice previously and Paige has ridden about 4 times. We got off the bus at the wrong stop, but it was close enough to the mall that we walked over.

We started at Payless Shoes looking for school shoes for Paige. We had a very annoying salesclerk who kept pestering us about a sale they had where you had to buy 1 pair regular price and then you could buy a second pair for half off but you could only get the discount on a small selection. Found the shoes she wanted but didn’t want to carry them around all day, so we decided to come back later.

We wandered around the mall a while looking for an outfit for me for my brother’s wedding at the end of Sept. Then it was time for lunch so we went to the food court. While we were there, we decided to have a secret movie date – just the 2 of us. Grabbed a newspaper and decided on Stuart Little 2. Then we stopped at a photo booth to take pictures to commemorate our day together.

We had about 30 minutes before we had to get to the theatre so we looked in a few more clothing stores, and still couldn’t find the perfect outfit.

We went to the theatre to watch the movie. It was pretty funny and of course had a sappy, predictable ending. There were 2 girls a little older than Paige that were sitting near us. They annoyed me a little before the show started by throwing garbage over onto my seat while we had left briefly to get our popcorn. (Grow up!) I muttered something about pigs, and they giggled. One of them kept looking over at us until the movie started and I decided that I was going to report them to the ushers if there were any more shenanigans. You don’t mess with me, Baby!

Then we headed back into the mall, and got down to some serious shopping. I finally found a skirt and matching tank top that I liked so I got it. Then we had to buy a sweater to wear overtop since the end of September can be very chilly. Paige had been a little bored while I was trying on clothes, so we stopped at a bookstore and she bought a Simpson’s comic book with a gift certificate she had received for her birthday last year. Of course the bookstore was on the second floor and at the very opposite end of the mall. We certainly got a lot of walking in today.

Right beside the bookstore was another ladies clothing store, so we looked in there to find a sweater. Didn’t find a sweater, but I found a tank top that matched even better with the skirt I had purchased, so after checking the receipt for the first tank and finding out they had a return policy that allowed refunds, I bought the other tank. Even better news, not only did it match better, it was $3.00 cheaper. Well, of course, we had to go back downstairs and to the other end of the mall again to return the first tank top. On the way, we passed yet another store and decided to peek in looking for the elusive sweater. Oh joy, oh bliss – they had one that co-ordinated nicely. I tried it on and decided to buy it. When I got to the counter the salesclerk asked which rack I had taken it off of “Was it the sale rack at the back?” Well, I hadn’t noticed, so I pointed to the one I had got it from. She says “Oh, that’s 25% off” Whee!! Finally, we made it back to the first store and returned the tank top for credit on my AmEx.

Now, for the shoes. We headed back to Payless to buy Paige’s shoes and see if they had some closed toe strappy shoes for me. They didn’t and the annoying salesclerk looked after us again. He kept trying to push me into buying an extra pair of shoes and I kept telling him we only wanted to buy 1 pair. Jeepers!

By this time I had called DH on my cellphone to see if he could pick us up since I didn’t feel like carrying all our packages on the bus. He said he would meet us at the mall since he had to buy a suit for the wedding. We continued on our shoe hunting mission until it was time to meet up. He called and we met at a men’s store and picked out a suit. Well, it was a nice suit, but it was on sale for $379 So we went to the men’s store next door, and found a nice suit for only $270. Guess which one we ended up with. DH wasn’t too certain about the guy grabbing hold of the seat of his pants while he was measuring him for alterations, but he handled it. We also bought him 2 dress shirts and a tie that goes with both shirts. We co-ordinated my new outfit with one of his shirts so we’ll look good in the pictures.

By this time DS was phoning my cell phone to find out when we were coming home. He was hungry! Well excuse me Mr. 14 Year Old. Did you forget how to open the refrigerator door? But it was time to go home anyhow because we had been away for 8 hours and our feet were tired. I guess I’ll have to find shoes another time.

Paige and I had such a great Mommy/Daughter day. It’s so nice when they finally learn to appreciate clothes shopping for what it truly is – a world class female sport!

Donna, you are just too cute! I really enjoyed your report and I wish I could get Katie to go into one of those photo booths! It sounds like you had one of those unplanned, wonderful bonding days with Paige! Good for you!

Re: A Goofy Trip Report

What a great day!

My 3 girls and I have a shopping tradition called "Girls' Day Out" We don't have any stores around here, so we take a day and travel without Dad! We take in all the stores, go out to lunch, then head home hopefully in time to beat Daddy and feed him something quick for dinner.

Our last one was at the beginning of the summer. We drove to North Conway to hit the outlet mall - my oldest needed some new sandals for her TSA trip to Denver. We finished up our shopping, hit Friendly's (a NE specialty - good burgers, sandwiches and the BEST ice cream sundaes for dessert), as we drove past Storyland on the way home - it was 2:45 - they have a deal where you pay to get in after 3, and you get a coupon for free admission for any full day all summer long. I didn't have to twist their arms for a quick park fix - luckily, it wasn't quite vacation season yet, so the park was almost empty - We finished the whole thing by closing time at 6 - We were the only ones on the Pirate boat - it was hysterical - the skipper was a really good sport, did all the jokes anyway, and he loved the fact that my preteens would willingly sing along. Needless to say, poor Dad beat us home at 6:30 - we didn't pull in till 7, and I think it was a cereal for dinner night - I think we'll bring him along when we use our free passes!

My middle daughter, Jennie(12), has been dying for our next girl's day out - She has finally been hit by the shopping bug, and needs new school clothes - She's grown 3 inches this summer! My oldest, Amanda (13), still wears only st. leg boy's Old Navy jeans, and baggy old t-shirts - no challenge there! Sarah (5) just wants us to go to a playground, and skip the shops. Her day will come!
