Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A neighborhood question
My neighborhood ROCKS! My neighbors who live just behind us just popped in with a big hot batch of chocolate chip cookies (she called them her Hurricane special). Keep in mind it's pouring here and they were soaked from the wind swept rain!
So, do you have cool neighbors?
Signed,
Off to indulge in what may be my last meal!

Re: A neighborhood question
NO. Our neighbors across the street are freaks. (and not in a good way) The lady who lives next to us is kinda unpleasant. The family on the other side is ok, but not cool by any means. I wish I had cool neighbors though!

Re: A neighborhood question
Not anymore
We had awesome neighbors next door - but they built their dream house about 2 miles away and moved this summer! We still see them, but it's not the same!
Sarah likes the new neighbors - they have kids her age, while our old neighbors only had 1 daughter Jennie's age; but I don't care for their value system. They are nice enough - but their 8 year old is tooling around on a dirt bike at 10 pm on a school night - keeping my girls awake! They went away to a horse show for Labor Day weekend - and left their little kitten home to fend for itself. Apparently, they want it to be a barn cat, but this little sweetie is a house cat in every sense of the word! We didn't even know they were leaving or we would have offered to kitty sit, although not in our house - John is allergic. This little sweetie was crying on our porch for 5 days - they didn't leave it any food or anything. We did go over and feed it everyday (On their porch), but other than that, it just cried to be with my girls. It would jump up and hang off my BRAND NEW screen door all night long! I couldn't sleep wanting to check on it - we've had a lot of trouble with foxes and coy dogs in our neighborhood. Our local cat lady (doesn't every small town have one?) lost 4 cats to this, and several others have lost cats as well. I've seen the fox in my yard several times this summer, and he's huge!! Seems like they've worked it out - since school started - it's only been over to visit a few times - and never at night.

Re: A neighborhood question
Our neighbors have really raucus parties several times each year, but they've really been great about turning down the music when we shut off our porch light and keeping their guests from parking us in. The last 3 years, they've even come over to do our yard work in appreciation to us for not calling the cops after midnight. Another neighbor has a garden. He's always bringing over tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins in the fall, and corn. He also lets DJ and I play in his yard with his dog. Our yard is mostly trees, weeds, and rocks. We've got some new neighbors building next door, between us and the old neighbors - The Happy People - as DH and I call them, with their perfect yard, 2.5 kids, 1 dog, 1 cat, pool, and swingset. Even their Christmas lights are perfectly straight and tasteful.

Re: A neighborhood question
We have quite a mixture! I don't like any of the neighbours across the street: One is stuck up and won't even wave at you if you are outside at the same time and they park on the street so that we can't easily back out of our driveway, one is a drug dealer who has served time and hopefully quit dealing (I haven't noticed as much traffic lately), and one has two young 20-somethings boys still living at home that knocked down our snowmen the last 2 winters.
But I do like the neighbours on our side of the street! To the south: a really cool young couple - a fireman and a cop - we've sat out on their patio a few times this summer and shared some wobblies, to the north: a very pleasant widow, north of her: a very nice retired couple who love my kids and dog, to the north of them: my best friend in Winnipeg.

Our neighbors are pretty cool, though I've never gotten cookies from them. When we first moved in we got pies and cakes!!

Re: A neighborhood question
Oh my gosh!!!!!!! I LOVE my neighbors- except for my next door neighbor on the right hand side if you are looking at my house! YUCK!!!!!! They are so mean! They are mean to my kids-one time the guy put vaseline on his fence because my kids climbed it to get to our shed roof. Now I know they should not be sitting on the shed, but my goodness!! Waht a jerk!! My husband about sued him for it and we haven't spoken to him since. Strangely, this makes me very sad. Anyway, the rest of my neighborhood is fabulous and we are all friends!! The girls have Buncko night once a month and we rotate houses.

Re: A neighborhood question
We only have 1 neighbor and they are great. They own a business that installs swimming pools so they have one of those big fancy in the ground pools with a waterfall and hot tub. Their daughter is DD's best friend. Very nice people!

Re: A neighborhood question
I don't really know any of my current neighbors, just our landlords and they're very sweet. Oh, and the lady who goes out of her way to let her dog pee on our driveway.
DH, Josh, met the guy who owns the one house we can see from our front porch in the new place. (not a very crowded neighborhood). He asked Josh if he's married and Josh said "yep, four years." The guy said to Josh, "My marriage lasted four years. Then I bought my ex wife out of this house and moved my girlfriend in." That's nice. Remind me to encourage DH to hang out with him. Re: A neighborhood question
Our neighbors are okay for the most part. Everyone on our street has at least five acres, so no one is right next to each other and we can actually go weeks without seeing some people.
The guy right behind us can be a jerk sometimes, especially if we're doing a remodel project or major outdoor work. He likes to tell us what we can and can't do, blah, blah.....Otherwise he just sticks to himself. His wife is pretty nice, a little weird but nice. In front of us is my father-in-law, his girlfriend and her two kids so they are good neighbors although the girlfriend can be annoying at times. Across the gravel drive from them is a couple with two little boys and a new baby on the way. They're really nice. There's four other houses on the street, one family with three teenagers that is really nice, a widow who is the neighborhood busybody, a retired guy and his wife who keep to themselves pretty much but always wave when we drive by, and a new family that we rarely see.

Re: A neighborhood question
We live on a quiet , out of the way street with mostly family so I would have to say that I love my neighbors very much. My grandparents live right across the street. You sound like you have great neighbors. Now you have made me hungry!!

Re: A neighborhood question
Yes, we have great neighbors and a great neighborhood. Although I didn't know them all that well, they gave me a baby shower before I had Alexa. I hadn't even met some of these people (there were about 35 people there, and frankly, I think they used it as an excuse to have a party, which was fine by me ).
We have lots of parties (although it has slowed down a lot from when we first moved in ) but it's a great place to be!!

Re: A neighborhood question
yes. We live in a VERY small town(200 people or under) and we know and are friendly with everyone in town. Even the town Baptist Bigot has been better to me!LOL!!
They take care of the 4 military families in town(us and 3 others), we get fresh veggies and apples all summer long.
One of our neighbors built us a new front deck for cost only
They are all rpetty lovely people who watch out for each other. Good old North Dakota kindness
