Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Quilting Anyone?

In a couple of weeks I am going to be taking a beginning quilting class. I am really excited about it! I am wondering then how many Passporters out there love to quilt. I would be open to any and all tips that I could get as I know very little at this point. Maybe we could have an "old-fashioned" online quilting bee!

Re: Quilting Anyone?

I was just going to post a thread about quilting!

I'm the only one in my family who doesn't quilt so my sister and mom decided to corupt me and they bought me some quilters stuff for Christmas. I even went out and bought a sewing machine and figured out how to thread it myself!

I started my first quilt yesterday - a fence rail pattern. Its a lot of fun but I'm a perfectionist so it may test my patience.

I figure if the men on Trading Spaces can sew then I can too!

Forti I'll have to look for a picture of the Sushi Kitties quilt my sister made us for X-mas a few years ago! It's just amazing!!

She taught a mother/daughter class right before the holidays and the female lead in the Sunday night Law & Order series and her daughter attended!

I would love to learn to quilt. I'm always in to much of a hurry when I sew so nothing ever looks right.

Re: Quilting Anyone?

I taught myself to sew and my first quilt was a water lilies, oh my god, talk about hard. I've since made 3 other quilts and am just finishing my 4th with a pinwheel pattern that I've adapted for different ages. I think that pattern is the easiest I've found and makes a beautiful quilt. If I can do it, anyone can!!

Re: Quilting Anyone?

My DM is taking the class with me and on her way home from work today she stopped at the quilt shop where will be taking the class. She wanted to pick out the rest of the fabric she needs for the first class and she surprised me by buying me a rotary cutter and a 24" rotary rule. I was really excited! Tomorrow I plan on going to the quilt shop to pick out the rest of my fabric. I want to do my first block in patriotic colors--red, white, and blue. Does anyone have any good tips for deciding how to choose the coordinating shades and prints etc. for your fabric? Let me know!

Re: Quilting Anyone?

As for color choices..chose a main primary fabric and pull secondary colors from itWhether it is contrasting values or colors. (That way you are not fighting your color choices so much as learning technique.) Quilting and learning it is a never ending search for knowledge once you get into the "craft"...even if you are not interested in finding new technigues- the play of color is forever intriguing- whether you are interested in Traditional-Contemporary- or ART Quilts...As with anything...make your first the best you can make it- but also know you will improve with practice..
There are alot of different magazines out there- each geared to a different audience with some overlap-invest in some of them..also a trip to your local library or perusing through home dec magazines will train your eye to what your heart loves...and persue that avenue in quilting- whethere it be replicating a pattern or a color combination that you fell in love with. Also remember it doesnt have to be a bed size..Start small so that you have a sense of accomplishment- and best tip I can give you---Find out if there is a local quilt guild in your area!!! You wont regret it...Belonged to one it the town I moved from for 18 years..wonderfull life long friendships and some great teachers..I now live near a small town out in the country and quilt every Tuesday with 11 other ladies- We work on two quilts at a time- It really is an old fashion quilting bee..and I feel blessed to be able to be a part of this "aspect of quilting"- the average age in the group is 70...I am 47...May quilting add some joyfull pieces to your life!!!I have a certified miracle that happened in my life connected with quilting...but thats another story!!!
Till next I post,
PEG
PS..
Simply quilts on HGTV is great,, try taping it- if you cant watch it. Also..you might check out a friend of mines website...

The web site belongs to Ami Simms - she has an incredible sense of humor and a fun web site!!!Sorry so long.

Re: Quilting Anyone?

I'm a quilter! I quilt mostly by hand including the piecing and applique. I love it, I find it so very relaxing! (except for basting, that part honks ) I don't have any tips for co-ordinating fabrics though because I love the look of scrap quilts and I've only ever made 1 that was colour schemed (and it cost me over $250 for the fabric -- maybe that's when I became a fan of scraps quilts! )

I have made 7 bed sized quilts and two baby quilts. No wall hangings because I'm an overachiever and I figure that I may as well dive in with both feet. My first was a log cabin, and I think it's a really good starter quilt. The pinwheel baby quilt I made would also be a good starter.

Look out, Stretch, once you've been bitten by the quilting bug, you'll never be able to quit!

Re: Quilting Anyone?

Well today I stopped by the quilt shop where I will be taking the class and it was incredible. I hardly knew where to begin. I ended up asking one of the women who works there to help me select my fabrics. I ended up with red, white and blue with a couple of fun twists. The pattern we are doing is a star, and most of my fabric has stars in it. My border is going to be navy blue with an American flag design. If and when I finish it, I will have to try to post a photo of it online. In the meantime, if anyone has any other tips or links to all things quilting, I would love to read about them. I've really been enjoying reading the tips and stories on this thread so far. I'm getting both excited and nervous about starting the project because I'm hoping it won't be too hard. Wish me luck!
