As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We got my son's passport back and we evidently put in the wrong day for his birth (month and year are correct). He's 15, so the passport is good for 5 years. This may be a dumb question, but is it really necessary to get another one for him? It seems like such a waste of money. I know as adults you need to bring a driver license along but right now he doesn't even have one!
I can't believe both my husband and I didn't see that I filled it in wrong. We both reviewed it on the computer before I printed it and read it once it was printed. Plus, we had to send his birth certificate along with the application for the passport because there was a problem. The service center we were getting the passport at was the same center that we got the birth certificate at. Evidently you can't do that anymore, so we had to get a new birth certificate when we got his passport. His birth certificate has correct date on it. So no one there noticed it either. I just double checked the new birth certificate and it has the correct day too.
Just another thought, he doesn't need a passport this summer yet anyway, so we could bring his birth certificate vs. the passport.
UPDATE: I sent away for new Passport, thanks to help on the boards and it came last week. I'm so relieved!!
I would consider contacting the passport folks and tell them that it was an error. They may want to issue a new one. I don't know if it will be harder later when he has to renew and that correction is made then.
I'm surprised that they didn't check the date against the birth certificate. One way or the other, I would assume that the State Dept. would want to correct the error and can't imagine charging you for a new one -- especially since they apparently issued a citizenship document without even looking at the required birth certificate!
You can get a replacement for free if there are errors on the passport. In fact, you MUST correct the passport. As in fines if you don't. All you need is more photos, a form, the bad passport and the birth certificate. When they misspelled my name two years ago, it took a week to get it returned.
Thanks so much for posting that link. I looked at all the information and online forms. I'm going to wait and call tomorrow when the information number is open. I want to make sure that they think a new one will arrive in time. I want to make sure the processing time isn't greater if there's an error. If not, we would have sent away his birth certificate with the wrong passport in order to get the new one. As it is, we can travel and use the birth certificate vs. the wrong passport but we can't travel with no birth certificate! I read the FAQ page and it doesn't matter when we send it in. If I read it correctly, we could get it free now as we are within 6-8 weeks but may not be worth the risk. I could wait until we return from the cruise and pay for a new one.
Boy, use this as a lesson to REALLY make sure you check those forms before sending them in. I still can't believe we made such a mistake.

Just remember in the days of such events as 911 and other world events, a minor thing like a birth date not being correct could cause some major delay and even some questions about fraud etc.... please do NOT hesitate to get it corrected ASAP. Department of State has a full division working nothing but fraud passports.
Well after calling the info number several times to see if I got the same answer, I went ahead and sent the passport in with my son's birth certificate and all the other things we needed to send in to make the date change. The question I had asked was how long it would take to get it back. If we don't have the birth certificate back in time, we're up a creek! He can sail without the passport but not the birth certificate I would guess. 2 out of 3 passport people said "no problem". One said she wasn't sure but if we didn't get it back within a week before sailing, we could call and request another birth certificate to be mailed. I think I'll do that 2 weeks before sailing!! I still can't believe this happened! I sure will do a happy dance when this gets resolved. I hope others learn from my mistake.
When DH and I ordered our passports we each only had one real live birth certificate. I was so paranoid they would lose them since that had happened to a friend - twice, and she ended up having to cancel her trip because of it. So we ordered birth certificates before applying for our passports. Now we have one set at home and one in our safe deposit box.

If you go to the State where you or your kids are born they have a website for the obtaining certified copies of the birth certificate. It is not a bad idea to pay to get a few extra, as you kids will need them later in life... jobs... military.... etc....
Just something to think about... easier now then when you need them!!
Thanks for the suggestions. Good idea. If I don't get the passport and Birth Certificate back by the end of the month I will order one. Better safe than sorry! I still can't believe I didn't notice it was wrong when we got it. If I'd have looked closer then, I would have had plenty of time to take care of it without the worry I have now!
