As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Last night was the second (and last regular season) meeting of UNC and Duke. The game was played at Duke, and UNC won (Duke won the first meeting of the season, at Carolina).
Of course, I watched the game -- my entire evening was planned around it -- and was a little surprised to see that Eli and Payton Manning were at the game, along with Matthew McConaughey ( WHY WASN'T I AT THIS GAME? Oh right, because I couldn't beg, buy or steal tickets. ). I'm used to seeing the sprinkling of NBA stars at this match-up, but the last few years, I've noticed an increasing amount of non-basketball affiliated celebrities.
Around here, the Duke/UNC rivalry is something you know about coming out of the womb -- even if you're not a Duke or UNC fan. The Battle of "the Blues" or "Tobacco Road" is like a national holiday, and there have been books written on it, ESPN specials, etc. I was just curious to know if it is something that non-North Carolians are aware of/interested in. I used to think it was just a local thing, but a friend from Ohio sent me a magazine with a cover story about the UNC/Duke rivalry on it. I also wanted to note how very cool it was that so many Duke fans, cameramen, score keepers, etc. were wearing Carolina blue ribbons in honor of Eve Carson. All the players (Duke & UNC) had black bars on their uniforms, and the UNC ones had a black circle that said "EVE." One of the things I love about the rivalry is the amount of respect between the schools, and this was very touching.

DH and I watched the game last night as well! DH is a huge Duke fan and I am a huge UNC fan when not rooting for my alma mater of IU. We are well aware of the rivalry and it was good to do a little seat dancing when they won last night. I was a little shocked at seeing Peyton and Eli there as well.
It warms my heart when I see the respect two colleges have for one another and it showed last night in regards to Eve. The opening prior to the game gave me goosebumps! GO TAR HEELS!
As a HUGE ACC basketball fan (my team is the MD Terps!) I really wanted to see this game but DH had control of the tube last night. I have to pick my battles and since my Terps are playing today, I had to give in last night. I hoped that the teams would be honoring your friend, Eve, and I am glad to hear that both teams did. A few summers ago, we were taking our summer vacation to Myrtle Beach and since we had an extra day for travel, I talked DH into taking an alternate route (we bypassed the boring I-95 trail). He took me along Tobacco Road and I could see Wake Forest, NC State and of course Duke and UNC. We had a great time driving through the Duke campus anad we stopped outside of Cameron Indoor to get some pictures. The doors were locked so we couldn't see inside but it was special to just be there soaking up the atmosphere. Of course, I had DH take my pic waving my MD flag and a close up of our Terps license tag holder beside the Cameron sign. DH wouldn't let me parade around Chapel Hill in the same fashion so we just did a drive by. This was the highlight of our vacation for me!

What a great game that was!! We are of course are UConn Huskie fans (being from Connecticut), but we watch most all college basketball games. DS#1 (a high school senior and a huge fan of NCAA for years) wanted Duke (I was offered a scholarship there for nursing as I was a National Merit Scholar with my PSAT's). I didn't go there though. Personally, I wanted NC mainly because of Eve. I thought it was awesome that Duke had the tribute to EVE before the game even began-even though they were at home. A real class act, even if the 2 colleges are so close to each other. Even today, DS#1 said, "As much as I wanted Duke to win I am glad NC won for Eve" YES!! I have raised a good kid .
