As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

To encourage shorter signatures and adherence to our new guidelines, I'm holding a daily signature contest beginning Friday, January 4 and ending January 15, 2008. Each day I will choose a signature that I feel adheres well to our guidelines while at the same time conveying the personality and spirit of a given member. To ensure I see your signature, please make any necessary changes to your signature then post a reply to this post to show off your new and improved signature. Tip: I like to see images and text side-by-side rather than in a long row, as this maximizes the space and compacts the signature even more, leaving less empty space in the signature. There's a trick to placing images and text side by side in a neat manner and it's built in to the toolbar above where you edit your signature. I set my text as small as possible so I can still promote my forums. I have a lot of stuff in there, though. I'm at the absolute maximum limit - 7 lines and 3 images, but with my text set to the smallest font size possible, it all fits nice and compact next to my standard small photo size from photobucket - 320 x 240. It's kind of fun and challenging to try to cram as much into as small a space as possible. Like fitting together a puzzle. I think it works out to about 520 x 240 pixels overall.
My question is - is the 400 x 400 guideline a maximum overall or can we "save" pixel-age in length to use on width? Does that make sense?

If you mean having everything fit inside about 300 x 400 pixels, that's a rule of thumb, but not a strict requirement. If you "save" pixels in length, feel free to use them on the width. I'd be delighted to see folks with signatures that are much wider than taller, because that means they are using up more of the available space.

How's this for wide? I took one long panoramic, cropped it into three smaller pictures and put them one right after the other. I did have to make each picture much smaller than the maximum, otherwise it was all the way off screen!

My apologies, Jennifer, I thought the new guidelines were for the total signature to be no greater than 400 x 400 overall. I missed the 300 part. I thought that applied to signature pics. That standard small photobucket size won't be as convenient as I thought. I'll have to do some more tweaking.
Okay, let me clarify -- PHOTOS in signatures (whether it is one or several) should occupy no more than 300 pixels high and 400 pixels wide. In other words, I don't want to see three photos that are each 300 x 400 pixels in a signature. If these were placed in a row down the page, they would take up far too much space.
The goal here is really just for a smaller signature. I'm not going to start calculating how many pixels you're each taking up in your signatures. I'm just going for smaller signatures overall. The one you have now is perfect.
