Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I've never been on a Disney Cruise but I've been to Nassau twice, once on a two week vacation and once on a day trip on another cruise line.

I'd definitely stay on board.

We just returned from our cruise aboard the Wonder. For our day in Nassau, we got off the boat, headed to Bay St. to set out looking around and turned around and went right back to the boat. Nassau was gross. Stay on the boat!!! My mother-in-law was with us and had been asked by a friend to pick up some liquor in Nassau which she did, that's the only thing we did, however, the ship's prices were better on what she bought.

I did the Walking Tour with Dave on the MouseFest Cruise in December and that was interesting. After that I went back to the ship. Next time I will probably only get off to go get some of the color changing nail polish my kids love so much!

I have zero desire to visit Nassau again. We'll probably stay onboard the ship next time, although I hope not to cruise with all of you since we'll all be on the boat!

Good question!!!

My MIL2B has made it very clear that she plans on staying on board and booking spa treatments all day. My DH2B and I have talked about just going in to walk around and shop for a couple of hours, getting back on board for lunch, then I go off to the salon to get ready for our wedding on board that evening.

Glad to see so much feedback from others so I can pass on the wisdom to our other guests coming along.

I am so conflicted now!

OH my goodness! And I was so excited about Nassau. This is my first cruise and was interested in doing the dolphin encounter. But, is it worth the money? I would want to venture out for a bit to see Nassau but if I only have 3 days on board and Nassau is that bad; Maybe my DH and I should just stay onboard. I am so conflicted now! Being a first time cruiser, what do you guys think?

I really disliked Nassau since we didn't have a tour planned, we were only going to walk around. Getting hounded every 30 feet for either a hair braiding session, a taxi, a tour, a horse carriage ride, or some such, wasn't fun at all. I didn't think there was much to see there and the merchandise wasn't all that spectacular. Just my $.02 worth!

Well, we did the dolphin encounter the last time we went on a cruise and it was fun, but we were doing the 4 night cruise, so we had an extra day to piddle on the boat. The encounter is pretty short and you don't actually swim with the dolphins. Still, it was cute for my then 6 year old son to kiss a dolphin. It's not great enough for us to do it again, though. I'm fairly certain that we will just stay on the boat this time since nothing else is just knocking my socks off for an excursion. I don't know how to answer your question, though. I think I would be really torn to leave the boat if I was only on there for a 3 night cruise. Good luck!

I have. Thom gambled at Atlantis on our last trip, but I don't think he'll be doing that again. I am one of those people though who would be happy cruising to nowhere. I just love being on the ship.

Ok, now I'm concerned. We also only have a 3night cruise and although had no intention of booking a tour we were planning on going to the Fort, Queens Staircase and a couple other spots that sounded interesting in Frommers guide. Zero interest in Atlantis but looking for conch fritters.

The actual port area is nothing new and doesn't bother me - try going to Ocho Rios (port, shopping, hanging in the bus windows). However wondering if this is not the best cruise/port for first timers (DH and DS have never been on one). DS (18) will not want to hang around the pool all day -not his thing nor mine really - and don't think a spa day will of much interest to him either.

Normally you see plus and minus opinions on just about everything but this leans heavily to the "don't bother". With only 3 nights wondering if I need to look into another cruise line for a different itinerary.

There is a lot more to do than just hang by the pool during the day. But that's just me. The closest we came to that was on Castaway Cay. Otherwise we had a good time just exploring the ship.

Hmm... I don't know. The 1st cruise I did was an Eastern Caribbean one that left out of San Juan and it stopped at some really nice ports. It was on Royal Caribbean. The main reason we're doing a Disney cruise is because a.) it's Disney and my son is still at the age that makes that attractive b.) we've done one before and know that our son LOVES the kid's clubs and c.) we wanted to go to WDW anyway to use up our Disney Visa points, so just made a 4 night in WDW and 4 night cruise combo trip.

They do have things to do on the boat while at port, but maybe you should look at some of the daily Navigator sheets on Platinum Castaway Club Disney Cruise Line Information and see what you think about the activities that they do onboard and see if you think your husband and 18 year old son would like them.

Good luck!

Thanks for the Navigator link - that'll help.

Our son still loves Disney as much as we do and he really liked the idea of a Disney cruise (plus we're stopping at Epcot on the way back since we have a really late flight). He's a big history buff, loves old forts and the like so after reading about some of the history on Nassau thought it would be great place to go.

Don't want to stay on the ship all day at the only true port we'll be stopping at. Guess it's time to do more investigating. I can still cancel and get my deposit refunded at this point if need be.

Thanks
Liz

We are planning on staying on baord most of the day. We might take a short walk. But we are playing it by ear as it is we have two young boys that do not want to walk much and we are doing 4 days at WDW 1st so me might need to rest.

My MIL has been there several times as says the history stuff is so worth looking at. And the Stairs are really cool. I also here great things about the Pirate exhibit there. So I think for a history guy it would be a great place to stop and see. I think every person is different and what a few don't like there is always a few that do. I would say try it you never know unless you try it.

I think that my DH and I will probably spend most of our time on the ship. But seeing as this is out 1st cruise, it would be a shame not to venture off a bit. When we reach Nassau, I was thinking about walking along Bay St and then visiting the Pirate exhibit. Has anyone done this? How long do you think we should plan for this? Thanks for the help!
