As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ok What do you know about Jacksonville as in FL?
I'm asking as because that is where I might be moving to when we do finally make that move!
See my mom isn't happy with her current employer so she has been looking around FL for a job. She will keep her current job if she has to but if she can find something that she is qualified for and offers good money she may change.
One of her clients that she works with now (building the system that she would use) is hiring for a job she is perfect for. They are coming up on Monday to train on the new system and she is going to mingle and try and get them to put her name in for the job as well as take her resume for any future openings.
Which leads to the actual question.. i do normally talk this much in real life too!
The company is located in Jacksonville FL and what i need to know is how far from WDW (thats for my benefit) is it? Where are good areas to live in? How far away is Gainesville?(thats a town in fl right??)
Any info would be helpful even if you only went on vacation there what did you think of the city?
Terri you from near there right?
Thanks
*signed a now franticly searching for new homes passporter!

Re: Ok What do you know about Jacksonville as in FL?
If you're thinking of working in Jacksonville and living in Gainesville, no that won't work, too far apart (about 70 miles or so). Here's a link to a map so you can see where they are:
http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com/cities...ap_florida.htm
Jacksonville is on I-95 and Gainesville is on I-75. Never lived in FL, so that's about all I can help you with!

I was going to say that Terri knows a lot about Jax. I believe it takes her around 3 hours to get to WDW.

Re: Ok What do you know about Jacksonville as in FL?
Gee Amy - I can't answer your question....my mother lives in Naples Florida - and I know alot about that area. But I am not familiar with Jacksonville. Gainsville is a city in central Florida - it is the home of the Florida Gators (college team).
I just wanted to wish you good luck with the possible new job and move for both you and your mom! Keep us posted! I don't know much about Jacksonville, but I'm anxious to hear what others will have to say. I hope everything will work out for you & your mom, even though I will miss our monthly BINGO get togethers! (Not to mention the upcoming Bronson Arroyo concert! :sigh: )

Re: Ok What do you know about Jacksonville as in FL?
I've driven through it on the way to WDW a few times. It's a bustling little city from what I've seen and it takes about 3 hours to get to WDW from there via I95 and I4.

Re: Ok What do you know about Jacksonville as in FL?
Jacksonville is a large city, and you would probably want to live on the south side (depending on where work is). It's about 3 hours +/- to WDW and about 1.5-2 hours to Gainesville.
You are right, Terri lives there now(when she's home)
And I believe Sarah (Dopeygirl) lived there.
I have a sister that lives in the southwest outer area of Jax... It's okay but, not liking big cities, I wouldn't want to live there...

I certainly did! I lived there from 1996-99 . . . lots has changed since then, but I can still give you a bit of info (as much as I know/remember) until Terri can come in and cover anything I missed!
Like Bill said, Jax is a pretty large city area-wise. Population-wise, I would say it is pretty close to 750,000 now!
Depending on where in the city you live, and how fast you drive , it will usually take 2.5-3 hours to get to WDW. (When I lived down there, I used to make the drive in 2 hours, but --- close your ears and eyes, Bill --- I tend to drive too fast! )
When we lived there, we lived in the same area that Terri lives in now. The area is called Mandarin and it is on the south side of the city. There are some nice apartment complexes and houses in the area. I worked downtown (right on the river next to the Museum of Science and History) and it would take me about 30 minutes on average to get home on a good traffic day.
There are some nice places as well in the vicinty of Jacksonville University, but that area, to me anyways, always seemed really "hit and miss". Almost like there is a nice neighborhood "here" but a street or 2 over it's not-so-nice, you know? I have a friend that lives on that side of town and she says that the neighborhood she lives in is great, there's just some places nearby that she doesn't want to go to . . . also, the further out near Jax Beach you get, the higher then rent will be in some places and the "yuckier" some of the other residential areas will be. (in my opinion, anyhow )
That's about all I can think of right this second . . . hopefully Ms. Terri will pop in here shortly and she may have different/more info for ya!
Hopefully, here in another 4 years, we will be moving back to Jacksonville . . . but I am not holding my breath. )
