As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Survivor
I just finished watching Survivor and was really surprised by the outcome. I will admit I did not follow the whole series but I had to get in on the final night. I figured Rudy wouldn't win because that was who all the polls were predicting. After watching the show tonight I really thought Kelly would take home the money. It was a surprise to see Rich win.

Re: Survivor
I only watched one hour of the show and that was the last hour.
I have heard all about it each week from friends but always forgot to turn it on.
Now is this going to be a yearly thing?

Re: Survivor
I have to admit I was one of the faithful watchers of the show and didn't think Richard would win. I was really rooting for Rudy but when it got down to just Kelly and Richard I was hoping it would be Richard. At least he was honest about his intent to win since day one.
Survivor Two will be set in the Australian outback and they'll start airing episodes after the Super Bowl in January.

Re: Survivor
I have watched it off and on since the beginning.
I was rooting for Rudy too. If Rudy couldn't win, then I was holding out for Richard. I really didn't care for either Sue or Kelly. Not very Sisterhood-ish of me, I know.
I really admired Rudy for voting for Richard. His reason was that he had "made a promise, and was sticking to his word". What a Guy!
Looking forward to next season, but what a silly prize they get! A trip in to space? Not my idea of fun...give me a million dollars!

Re: Survivor
maggiemay: In the next one they're still competing for a million dollars. At least that's what it says on the web site. I didn't see anything about a trip in to space.

Re: Survivor
The trip to space deal is another show. I saw a commercial for it last night. It is called something like "Space Challange" or something! I hadn't been following "Survivor" but I did watch the show last night. I thought it was horrible. I thought it did nothing but depict human behavior at its very worst. If I want to see that again, I'll start watching "Jerry Springer"!

Re: Survivor
I watched it for the first time last nite. (I had to see who won). It sounds like a lot of unhappy bickering people. I would LOVE to spend 1 or 2 Days on a deserted Island. The sunrises and sunsets and scenery looked beautiful! They seem to take it all for granted and was there for the Money. Have a Disney Day!

Re: Survivor
I was surprised also. I was rooting for Rudy.
Disneylover, You wouldn't like the nights on the island. There were LOTs of RATS that would crawl on them while they slept not to mention snakes, bugs and fleas! Give me the comforts of a hotel anyday!

Re: Survivor
The idea of rats crawling all over you while you sleep sure takes away the feeling of being in paradise, doesn't it ! When I saw the ad for Survivor II in Australia all I could think about was that the Australian outback was home to some of the most deadly snakes and spiders. The only way I would volunteer to be on that one is if Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" was there...he could keep all the snakes and spiders busy. Is that man not INSANE?

Re: Survivor
I have to admit that I was a Survivor watcher. I love to watch how people interact with each other. Nicki, I also love Steve! He is the craziest person I have ever seen. Love to watch CrocHunter too.

Re: Survivor
OK I didn't watch this show until the last hour this Wednesday and I have to say I am personally appalled that this passes for entertainment! It seems to have brought out the 'dark' side of each and every one of the participants, something I would imagine they usually keep well hidden in their day-to-day encounters. I am also surprised that this show is so popular. I have watched about 10 minutes of Big Brother and found myself falling asleep from boredom. Survivor just made me feel embarassed for the contestants! I just don't get the appeal of these reality shows! I must be too old!

Re: Survivor
I would sleep in My Winnie the Pooh sleeping bag and be Very Comfortable! I probably wouldn't sleep much anyway! That could be why they were all so unhappy and didn't get along too well!! Have a Disney Day mineozl!

Re: Survivor
Too bad for all of you -- (those that missed Survivor, that is!) -- you don't know what you missed!
We (DH) & I were big-time "Survivor Junkies!" We, too, also like Big Brother -- which was definitely one that had to "grow" on you.
We were very disappointed with Rich winning, though. He is so conniving & sly. I can admire his self-confidence, but I really grew tired of his endless ramblings on about being the "Super Fisherman/Feeder of His Tribe...blah, blah, blah, blah..."
We "liked" Rudy best, but given the choice between Kelly & Rich -- would've picked Kelly in a heartbeat. She really played the game well -- winning lots of challenges/etc. Her strength came out in the end. Those who voted against her, to us, seem a bit like sore losers. (ie. Sue)
We enjoy these "reality" shows -- maybe due to lack of better quality shows or maybe just out of curiosity -- but nonetheless, we're fans. As for human nature, unfortunately many humans are not humane. That is the reality.
