As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
This past year has been a very difficult one in our marriage (17 years in January). We have worked through our issues and are stronger then ever. Anyone have a great idea for us renewing our marriage vows when we visit in May?

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
The pixies at Gifts of a Lifetime did an awesome job of planning a vow renewal for Joseph and I last December. I know a couple of other Passporters have done this as well so hopefully you can get more great reviews I had surprised hubby with this and he just loved it. The event consisted of Joseph receiving three cards one at a time with really sweet things on them that related to our family and tied in with a ride. After he completed all three, we renewed our vows back at the wishing well near Cinderella Castle.
While it wasn't a formal vow renewal, it was very fun, meaningful and sweet

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
Congratulations on working through the hard stuff. I'm glad to hear that your relationship is now strong! I have not done the vow renewal (but probably will when we go in 2007 for our 20th anniversary). Hope you can find a way to make it special!

Have you considered a formal vow renewal?? Contact Disney's Fairytale Weddings -- I know they have a link from www.disneyworld.com You can renew your vows at the Wedding Pavillion. IF I ever get married (yes folks that was an IF) I want it to be in the most magical place on earth - WDW!!

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
Congratulations on deciding to do the vow renewal. I'm thinking about it for 2009 for our 10th wedding anniversary (I know, talk about planning ahead! ) When are you planning on going in May? If it's early May, we'd love to meet up with you.

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
Oh, I so hope that you get your plans worked out for a vow renewal! I tried to do one for our 10th but they didn't do anything besides weddings then 2 years ago we saw them setting up in MK near the Castle for a vow renewal (yes, I asked what was going on! nosy, nosy...). It was beautiful to see the orchestra, white tent, chairs and flowers being set up for the night time renewal. I still cry just thinking about it! Oh I really hope you can do it!!!!
ps - I'm still trying to plan something for Disney....although may end up being my daughter's wedding by the time we can arrange anything! BTW she's 14 months old - LOL!!

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
I am surprising DH with a "vow renewal" through Gifts of a Lifetime (as mentioned in TiggGrrrl's post) on October 20th. Ours will be a little different from than the one she described... DH will "find" a book with our wedding photo on it with the story of our wedding day. It will tell us that we have offended Malificent and that unless we complete a series of tasks in the MK we will be forced to stay on It's a small world forever! We'll be find clues and doing things together around the park and will eventually end up at the wishing well for a little ceremony and pixie dust.
I'll tell everyone all about it in our trip report when we get back. I hope DH is floored by the surprise!

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
Congratulations on 17 years, but even more so, for making it through the tough parts. Your marriage will be even more cherished for it.
We did a vow renewal for our 20th anniversary through Disney Fairytale Weddings and they treated it just like a wedding. Simple to plan and very very special for us and our daughters.
I'm writing a trip report right now in the "Trip Report" section. Title is "Vow Renewal, GF, and falling in love" etc. So far I have described the planning stages and the next entry will be at Disney. If you want to read how we did it, check there.
Again, congratulations to you. I hope however you do a vow renewal it turns out to be a very special time for you.

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
How long in advance will I need to book something through WDW wedding renewals? And of course if any of you are in the World when we renew you are welcome to come! It would be great to meet all of you!

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
We booked ours the day before Thanksgiving and our renewal was May 21 at 10:00am. When we called, they had two times open for that day in the Wedding Pavilion. I would think if you called now there should be openings, but I wouldn't wait too much longer.

Re: ideas needed for renewing our wedding vows
Vow renewals through Disney aren't cheap. :-( They start at something like 2,000 dollars and that's for just the vow renewal package without a stay or anything else. I was going to do it for my tenth anniversary in 2005, but it's looking like way too much. Gifts of a Lifetime is much more economical, but keep in mind, it will not be an official vow renewal and must be kept quiet because Disney does not like anything done outside of Fairytale Weddings. But a vow renewal can be anything, from a wedding style affair to what was mentioned, to just taking an Illuminations Cruise and joining hands and promising a lifetime together. A good place to look for formal vow renewal info (including Swan and Dolphin and Celebration which are cheaper) is http://www.yourfairytale.com/ and the disneymooners list at yahoogroups.
Definately call though soon, they start making the reservations a year in advance through Disney.
