I was thinking of buying a little 5x7 spiral bound scrapbook at Michaels Crafts. I thought maybe I could make my own version of a merged autograph book and Passport.

I thought in the first half of the book we could have the characters sign on the right page and I could put a picture of the girls with the character opposite the signature on the left page. And then in the last half of the book we could make it be an EPCOT passport. I could decorate the pages with stickers related to the country. The CMs could stamp their stamp on the right page and write their message and I could get a picture of the girls somewhere in the country on the opposite page (left page).

My question is this, would they be losing any "excitement" or the "magic" of the passport by doing this? I have never seen one before so I don't really have an idea what they are like.

A couple benefits of doing this are:
1. The scrapbook has heavier pages than the autograph books, so it would be better for the picture.
2. I can get the scrapbook for about $5. And if I use a Michael's 40% off coupon, for about $3. (Plus add in the cost of stickers to decorate the pages.)
3. Both things would be in one neat package.

Sounds like a great idea - if - your kids won't be disappointed when they see all the other kids with their official Disney versions. On one trip our kids were 7 and 4. My mother-in-law is very crafty and did something similar to what you are thinking of doing. I think you can guess which one the kids wanted to use. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I think it sounds great! I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think my son would be disappointed at all. The characters and the CM's in the country's are great about signing any kind of book you have.

I think that's a great idea - in fact, we may do the same thing for our December trip. My girls loved the characters and getting their autographs, but my oldest didn't want to carry around the cutsy Disney version, so she had them sign a white visor.

The Epcot passports were a waste of money for my family. The girls loved the World Showcase and the Kidcot stops, they enjoyed the stamps and interaction with the CMs but didn't use their Passports at all! One even lost hers the last day, and never realized it - even after we got home. The masks, however, and pictures from the World Showcase are featured decorations for their rooms.

From a fellow scrapbooker, your idea is a great one! I bought a mini-scrapbook for my daughter to use as her autograph book too! Just make sure you get the archival quality pens to bring too so it will last! Great new scrapbook items at WDW -- acid & lignin free! Have fun!

I did exactly what you ate talking about a couple of years ago and my kids liked theirs better. The pages are more durable and unlike their cousin's book are still in really good shape. They like the fact that their autograph book has a picture of them with the character on the same page. The Disney ones just don't allow that option. I also bought the ones that have black covers and are spiral bound....no dirty cover when we got home and when we handed it to the character we just flipped to the right page. They always signed it in the right spot.

We just returned from WDW on Saturday and I am almost done with my son's scrapbook of autographs and pictures. Tonight he sat on daddy's lap and named all the characters. I think he loves his scrapbook he's 2.
