Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

HersheyPark - PA ?

Anyone know where to stay near Hershey Park? I was wanting to take a road trip (From Boston) with my two boys this summer and I went on the HersheyPark webstite and to stay for the three of us would be about a $1000 for 3 nights. Help? It would be fun to stay at the Park like WDW but I didn't want to spend that much. Plus anyone's ideas about what else to do there? We will probably only stay about 3-4 days? TheGoof and FanofMickey if you are listening, what were those places?

Thanks.
Judith

Re: HersheyPark - PA ?

We stayed in the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott. It was really nice. The room was huge, had a kitchenette and 2 TV's. They have an indoor pool too and continental breakfast. It was literally right down the road from the park. The drive time was about 1 minute. Here's the website: http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/HARSH

As far as what to do....we found the park to be a 1 day park. There's also Chocolate World and the Zoo. We did the zoo the same day as the park and had no problem doing it all in one day. We did Chocolate World the night before. That doesn't take too much time. A couple of hours at most.

You can drive about 40 minutes or so to Lancaster and check out the Amish country. There's lots of shopping. Outlets and shopping in the Amish areas. You could definately spend 2 days or more exploring that area.

If your boys are into trains check out the Strasburg Railroad. You can ride the train, and check out the museum. If you google Strasburg Railroad you'll find it.

PM me if you need any more info. I've got brochures and stuff from our road trip there last June.

Re: HersheyPark - PA ?

We've been to Hershey Park every summer for the last 10 years or so - it's our second favorite amusement park, next to Disney. It has some really great coasters, and the "kiddie" rides are not separated into a different section fo the park - so if you need to do kiddie rides, you can fit them in between the bigger rides. Makes it nice for families with different ages.

I agree that the park is really a one-day park. You can get pretty much everything you want done in a day. Return visits would allow you to concentrate on those rides that you want to do over and over. When we go, we usually do Chocolate World early in the morning - it opens before the park does - then visit the park and all its great rides, and then head out.

Re: hotels: I think there's a Fairfield Inn close by, and there might also be a Comfort Inn. We've stayed at the Hershey Lodge, and it was nice but expensive. It did have Hershey Kisses in the wallpaper, but otherwise was not really "themed" like at WDW. The Hotel Hershey is the upscale resort hotel that is across the highway from the park. We've never stayed there. Neither of these hotels is within walkign distance of the park, and I'm not aware of whether or not shuttles are offered to the park.

Good luck, hope you enjoy your trip!

Re: HersheyPark - PA ?

Hershey is definately just a one day park. You still may want to base yourself there to explore other areas. If you are into history, Gettysburg isn't too far off. If you go to Gettysburg, be sure to visit Boyd's Bear Country - I don't care if you have boys, this place is cool!
Visit PA
Here's a good place to look for what else in the area might interest you.

DH and I went to Hershey Park this past weekend, and stayed at the Hershey Lodge. Both the Lodge and the Hotel Hershey run a shuttle. They're taking a hint from Disney, and if you stay at one of those two - you can get into the park early. The Lodge is really nice - it has a great indoor pool and an outdoor pool, we saw mini-golf and we also saw games set up for kids outside. Plus, you get free admittance to the Hershey Gardens and the museum. I think it was $229/night - and then you can get a 10% AAA discount.

Hotel Hershey is beautiful, but if you're going to be spending most of your time touring around and at the park, it's not really worth the price. You may want to take one of the shuttles up there and check it out, though.

I looked at the place related to Marriott that Cheryl mentioned. It looked really nice too. There's also a Comfort Inn close by. I think there's something like a Hershy Inn or something. And a cute looking B&B called something like Westwind Farms.

Good luck finding the right place for you. You'll have a great time.

Re: HersheyPark - PA ?

We've always gone to Hershey Park every year for the past 12 years, and your best bet would be to stay a half-hour away in Lancaster. The hotels are gorgeous, and not too expensive, and there's lots to do. We usually spend most of our time in Lancaster - shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village, playing miniature golf at Dutch Wonderland, and going on a train ride at the Strassburg Railroad. There's also a ton of great outlets!

We then spend a day at Hershey Park. We get there early and do Hershey Chocolate World in the morning. It takes about an hour or two to do the tour, the Really Big 3D Show, and to shop. The we head into Hershey Park and spend the rest of the day there. It's a GREAT park... definitely a favorite of mine!

Re: HersheyPark - PA ?

How old are your boys? We love Hershey Park, and also enjoy Knoebels http://www.knoebels.com/ ( a totally different kind of amusement park) and Dorney Park http://www.dorneypark.com/. That might make a fun road trip!

At Hershey, we have always stayed at the Hampton Inn, just off Interstate 81 in Grantville. It is just about 10-15 minutes from Hershey park, and is reasonably priced. http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotel...ctyhocn=HARGHHX
