Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

EPCOT Rolls On

Thanks for bearing with us as things have been busy! Here's the next installment of our TR, which covers another chunk of the Scavenger Hunt at EPCOT:

As we left Morocco, we continued our journey through World Showcase to Japan. There weren’t very many clues here, which surprised us greatly, so we got the 2 answers to these questions and moved on quickly:

#42) According to the "Spirited Beasts" exhibit in the Japan Pavilion, what Studio Ghibli film features a Tanuki as a primary character?

#66) According to a nearby plaque, the design of the Yakitori House was influenced by the architecture of what Japanese city?

From Japan we continued on to the American Adventure. By this time it is SUPER hot and the sweat is pouring off of us…not a pretty sight for all of those around us I’m sure We’re extremely thankful for the opportunity to go into the air conditioning at the American Adventure to explore the Rotunda and the National Treasures exhibit for these clues:

#60) When facing the painting by Herb Ryman in The American Adventure Rotunda, a quote by what person is located to your immediate right?

#61) A cast of what author's hand is displayed in the National Treasures exhibit at The American Adventure Pavilion?

#72) On a painting inside The American Adventure Rotunda, a group of children can be found learning "A Lesson for the Future". What animal is also learning this lesson?

#75) What span of years is attributed to Thomas Edison's kinetoscope in the National Treasures exhibit at The American Adventure Pavilion?

Continuing around the lagoon, we made our way to Italy. We wandered around the Pavilion for quite a while in search of the donkey cart in one of the questions. Once we found it, it took a bit to find the correct item it was referring to…and then one of the CM’s tried to help us (a big NO NO according to the rules) and we had to try to politely refuse him. He told us he’d been telling people where it was all day Not good!!! Keep it to yourself dude!!!

#25) On the outdoor Sicilian donkey cart, spot the illustration of a woman carrying the Italian flag. What is she holding with her right hand?

#48) What two-digit number forms the address to Via Napoli in the Italy Pavilion?

#71) The crest above the main entrance to Via Napoli features the image of what kind of creature?

Next we were on to Germany where there were quite a few questions to answer, including what I think was one of the hardest 5-point questions of the whole hunt. There were tons of questions relating to the shops within Germany, so that’s where we started:

#16) What item hangs above guests just outside the entrance to the Volkskunst shop in the Germany Pavilion?

#24) In a display case near Sommerfest, an immigrant nutcracker can be found holding what important documentation?

#41) According to a display in Die Weihnachts Ecke, what is the last ornament traditionally hung on a tree? ***Didn’t need to look up this answer! We’ve been at Christmas enough that this is just part of our knowledge base now ***

#47) According to the window display at Karamell-Kuche, how many Werther's Originals Chewy Caramels are needed to make caramel apples that serve 4?

#53) How many Habsburg emperors stand above Das Kaufhous in the Germany Pavilion?

#70) Positioned above a window inside Der Teddybar is a doll petting what kind of animal?

After finding all the info from the shops, we had to visit the miniature village outside of Germany for the remaining questions in this pavilion (including the 5-pointer):

#4) According to its sign, name (in English) the outdoor pathway through the miniature railway village at the German Pavilion.

#85) ROMANTIC GETAWAY (The 5-pointer…I thought this was SUPER hard compared to some of the others!!!)

Find the miniature train village in the Germany Pavilion and imagine yourself as a citizen exploring the countryside. Start at the Town Square and follow these directions:

- Walk to the nearest set of train tracks (toward World Showcase Lagoon) and follow it in the direction of The Lowenbrau.

- Stop when you see the mill on your left

- Cross to the opposite set of train tracks and proceed in the other direction

- Stop once you reach the herd of sheep

- Climb the rocks across from the sheep

Identifiy the animals being fed outside the stable at the nearby farm. Write the animal name as your answer.

After leaving Germany, we made our way to the Outpost as there were 2 10-point questions that started here. By this time there was only a little over an hour left and we still had a bit of ground to cover:

#92) BOATS ON THE BEACH

- Count the number of boats that are on the beach near the Refreshment Outpost

- Go to the pavilion identified by that number on the Epcot park guidemap

- Without entering a park queue line, locate the plaque within a plaque

Write the 6th word found on the inner plaque as your answer

#94) WE NEED A COLOR

- Find the crossroads signage near the Refreshment Outpost and identify the word printed on the third sign from the top.

- Proceed to the entrance of that Epcot location that contains this word in its title

- Find the list of names to the left of the door and identify the first name shared with a character from a Disney film set in the same country

- Think of the activity that the film's heroine especially enjoys. At the same pavilion, locate the object featured on double-sided signage that relates to this activity.

Write the color of the object as your answer

At this point, we realized one of our 10-point questions was leading us all the way back to FRANCE!!! We debated for a minute whether it was worth it to use the time to trek all the way back over there (especially with my leg still hurting ) and decided it was worth it for that many points. Let me tell you, my speed-limping to France was probably something awesome to behold!!! Needless to say, we made it back to France, found the answer to our question (which solved the 10-pointer ) and made a beeline back to where we left off on our trek around the lagoon.

Up next: The completion of the EPCOT portion of the Hunt!
