Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Last Day Disney Blues - What to Do on the Last Day of your Disney Vacation
by Cheryl Pendry

Anyone who’s ever gone on a Disney vacation sadly knows the feeling of the last day Disney blues only too well.

Any vacation that starts, after all, has to come to an end. So how do you deal with that? The received wisdom in any Disney community is that the best solution to the end of a Disney vacation is to know when the next one is. After all, at least if it's got to end, then you may as well have something else to look forward to, right? But what happens if your next vacation is too far away to book anything? This can be a huge problem, if you're not planning on heading back for say, another 18 months.

Walt Disney World may not have accommodation on sale yet for the forthcoming year, and airfares certainly won't be out. It's a position we've been in many times before, and just because you can't book anything doesn't mean that you can't plan. I've had many times where I've planned everything out, from the dates we'll be on vacation, to the flights that hopefully we'd take, and the accommodation we'll book, many months before we can actually do anything. Admittedly, sometimes it doesn't work out the way that you plan things, but I've certainly found that being able to go through the planning process helps to stave off the Disney blues.

But what happens if you really can't plan another Disney vacation by the time you get to the last day of your current break? In this current economic climate, I'm sure that's the position that many people find themselves in, and certainly I feel that pain, as finances are a lot tighter for us than they have been for many years. Well, the first suggestion is to make sure that you go out with a bang! Don't let the blues spoil your last day. Sure, you may be flying later in the day, or perhaps the next day, if your flight is very early. Make the best of every precious moment that you still have at Disney, as it'll help you to forget that your vacation is coming to an end. If you, and your family, have a favorite park, then head to that, and perhaps enjoy your favorite rides there. Treat it as your chance to have some real fun, and enjoy the bits of Disney that you love the most. For us, we love Epcot, so we tend to gravitate there on our last day, and spend our time wandering around World Showcase, taking in all the sights we know and love so much.

If you have a favorite restaurant, then make an Advanced Dining Reservation (ADR) for that for your last day. I'm a huge fan of that wonderfully depressing donkey, Eeyore, so for me, any vacation that sees me dining with him at the Crystal Palace will see me finishing my vacation with a huge smile on my face!

There's also another approach you can take. Perhaps you don't have a day's park admission left to use by your last day? Well, why not head out, and still make the most of your time, and perhaps explore a new part of Walt Disney World? We were out with friends on our last vacation, and their last day happened to be the day that we all got off our cruise on the Disney Dream. We headed back to Downtown Disney, and then had a fun lunch at T-Rex, before renting a boat for an hour, and taking that out on the lake at Downtown Disney. It was a relaxing way to finish the vacation, and perhaps quite an unusual way to end our time at Disney, but still very pleasant all the same.

Depending what time your flight is, you might prefer to stay at your resort, and if the weather's nice, perhaps enjoy some time by the pool, or maybe explore the resort. Of course, don't forget, if you're checking out, the chances are you'll have to be out of your room by 11:00 am, which means that if anyone does go swimming, then you may have to think what to do with the wet swimming items. It's not ideal, but as a regular swimmer, I can tell that you can usually get away with putting them in a plastic bag, and washing them when you get home, even if that happens to be the next day.

Whatever you plan on your final day, don't forget to plan out how much time you actually do have. Remember to time out what time you need to be at the airport in time to check-in, get your boarding passes, and check your luggage, if you haven't already done so, and clear security. Then add on the time it will take to get there, as you don't want to cut it too fine. Trust me, we've done that before, and it makes your last vacation day suddenly become very stressful! If you're going to be travelling on Disney's Magical Express, they'll work that out for you, but again, don't forget to allow enough time to be back at your hotel for your bus.

Hopefully that gives you some idea of how to finish your Disney vacation on a high, even if the last day is traditionally a low point of any holiday.</p>
