As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OUR VERY NAUTICAL NEW YEAR - Updated 1/23/07
OUR VERY NAUTICAL NEW YEAR
Pre-trip Plans:
- Our Party: Me (Tanya) age 30-something – 4th trip as an adult, last in Sept at the WL and DH (Scott) age 30-something – 3rd trip ever, last in August at the Poly
- Our Journey: December 29 – January 2, flying out of Philadelphia
- Our Lodging: Port Orleans French Quarter
- Our Special Plans: Ringing in the year with the Mouse and his friends and getting some needed R&R
Our trip came into being on our last trip to Disney in September of 2006. During that trip, we were originally planning to stay a few days at Disney and spend a few more in Naples, Florida. However, while we were in Disney, there was a potential hurricane watch/warning for the Naples area, so, after much debate, Scott and I decided to take the “safe” route and stay at Disney for the remainder of our vacation and not go to Naples at all (I know, Disney or Naples, boy, what a rough life).
At any rate, while we were spending our extra few days at Disney, Scott and I, for whatever reason, started talking about the topic of annual passes. Actually, we were on our way to Downtown Disney to do some souvenir shopping. Scott started asking what benefits you get as annual pass holders, what they cost and some other questions. Typical Disney story, one thing leads to another, and we find ourselves in front of Guest Services. We quickly discuss the costs a little more, how many more times we might come back to Disney (I was planning on bringing my mom down in a month anyway), and we decide to go for it! After buying the passes, Scot asked several times “This is all that you get for an Annual Pass? It is a piece of cardboard! They can’t even laminate something for us”?
A little later in our trip, we had a last minute ADR at Narcoossee’s (when we stayed at the GF previously, we did not get a chance to eat there). Scott and I are waiting to be seated and I can see the wheels turning in his head. Finally, he asks, “Do you think that this would be a cool place to come for New Years”? I’m thinking, ‘here’ WDW or ‘here’ Narcoossee’s, specifically? (Amazingly enough, I already know that Narcoossee’s has a big New Years Eve party planned – isn’t that convenient [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]) What to do on New Years Eve is an important decision for us because, we have been bothered (some might even say plagued) by poor New Years Eve choices. We have tried a lot of different things from parties to eating out and going to Atlantic City and we have yet to really find the celebration that is us (most times we are struggling to stay up until midnight anyway). Anyhow, my husband is asking me to come back to Disney you don’t have to ask me twice. I immediately say, yes, but question whether they would have any more room left (ok, not really – but he doesn’t have to know I already know this information). I ask the host at Narcoossee’s what he knew about the New Years plans and whether they had any availability (already knowing that it was booked and what was offered [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]). They directed me to Disney Dining and started trying on my cell while we are waiting to be seated. I am quickly informed that Narcoossee’s party is booked [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] for New Years Eve, BUT, the party at the Contemporary still has room available. Now, I didn’t know anything about a party at the California Grille. Okay, I am thinking this is a good thing. I ask what comes with the party, and the woman tells me dinner, open bar and the standard party accompaniments, blah, blah, blah. I tell her that that sounds good, and we start the booking process. However, there was one small detail that I forgot to discuss: price. So, I ask, as she is getting ready to take my credit card information (assuming it’s similar in price to Narcoossee’s - maybe just a little more), how much it is. “$400.” “Per couple, I ask”? “Ah, no, per person!” Scott and I understand that, from time to time, we are prone to certain financial overspending without thinking about long-term consequences, but, this was too pricey for us (though, in fairness, it did sound very nice).
