Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

[ QUOTE ]
I think it's hilarious that they think you guys just hopped a plane to spend the night in Kansas City (and had to have a layover first). Is something you guys do normally?
Can't wait to hear about the big reveal!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Well at first they did wonder if we were going to meet some Passporters I didn't think Jalen would catch on, but I thought for sure Kylor would...but he didn't. But, no, it's not something we would normally do

Tina,
Is your signature pic from the Lilo and Stich character meal? My kids are dying for that one when we go in November. Did you like it? Was it breakfast only?

Re: Kylor & Jalen\'s SURPRISE Disneyland vacation
Tuesday April 26th
I woke up about 15 minutes before the alarm went off and hopped in the shower. I had forgotten I had asked when we checked in for a wake up call, too, so when the phone rang the boys woke up immediately. We got ready pretty quickly and were down in the lobby by 7:15. We were apparantly the only people going to the airport that early, so we had the shuttle to ourselves. The driver asked me where we were going... "Um, home to Michigan" Now I am starting to feel bad for fibbing to other people
We get to the airport. The line is short and we get to the ticket counter pretty quickly. The agent said 'Of course it made you all selectees' Um, it's required to de-select me b/c I'm an airline employee and the kids because they're under 12. But I didn't argue with her. So my bag went through the additional screening and we headed off to find some breakfast. Midwest Airlines is WAY on the end of the airport so we walked quite far before finally running into a Cinnabon. I got one with nuts, one without and a caramel iced coffee. We took our to-go bag and sauntered back to the security area. Of course here we have to go through the full screening, also, which the boys thought was pretty 'cool' (getting wanded and patted down )
We went to grab some seats as we had about 45 minutes now until the flight boards. Or so I thought. They kept making announcements about the flight to San Antonio being delayed over an hour. Finally at about 8:30 they decide to take our plane that's sitting on the ramp waiting to go to Orange County and take it to San Antonio The plane that was supposed to be going to San Antonio is still in Milwaukee with a mechanical. It turns out there were 3 people on the flight in Milwaukee that needed to go to Orange County and would miss the connection in Kansas City if they didn't do this. Being an airline employee it made sense to me, but other passengers were pretty p.o.'ed. The boys were being so good, Jalen playing with his Power Rangers he got as a gift from my friend Rachael in Milwaukee and Kylor playing with Jalen's GameBoy. I finally decided after they announced the delay that I should tell them exactly what's going on. So I tell them to get together, I just want to take a picture of them. So they do:
Then, with the camera still in front of my face, I say 'Do you know where we're really going?' Kylor says 'huh?' so I repeated myself. Jalen is so confused...Kylor asks 'Boston?' So I tell them 'Nope, we're going to Disneyland' Blank faces. I repeat 'We're going to Disneyland' Kylor finally gets it:
And a few seconds later, so does Jalen:
Jalen gave me a huge huge bear hug and I was crying it was so cute and they were so excited. Then Jalen wanted to take a picture of me:
Kylor of course is all worried about school and how he didn't tell his teacher he was going to be gone, etc. I reassured him everything was taken care of, and that seemed to appease him. They went back to playing and a little later they make an announcement that our gate to Orange County is changing. So I was glad at this point that I had told them already, b/c they would have been wondering why we were following the Orange County group instead of going on the Milwaukee flight.
The plane finally lands at 9:50 and they start boarding pretty quickly after that. I think we left MCI at about 10:30 their time. It's a 3 hour flight to Orange County. The boys were good, as usual, on the plane. They love flying. Jalen played with his Power Rangers almost the entire flights ( Rachael!) and Kylor finished 2 books. We landed in Orange County at 11:30 their time and taxiied to the ramp. Where we sat. Since we are late, of course our gate is taken and won't be open for another....1/2 hour!! Ugh. People in the plane were so annoyed (as was I) but I can't complain. So we waited and right at noon we started moving and got into the gate. We were in row 1 so we deplaned right away and made our way to baggage claim. Where we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally got our bag at 12:40 and I called the Green Van shuttle. He told us to go right outside the baggage claim and our van would be there shortly. And it was. Less than 10 minutes.
We loaded up and sat in the van when the driver says we have to wait 10 minutes b/c it's a 'shared' van and they have to see if they can get anyone else to go with us. Which makes sense - 10 min. seems fair. They ended up finding another woman and we are off. The ride from the airport to our hotel took about 10 minutes. We pulled up to the Jolly Roger and hopped out into the sunny 70 degree weather
Coming up: A walk to California Adventure

Yep, that was the Lilo & Stitch breakfast. As far as I know, it's only breakfast. We liked it a lot, pretty expensive (over $50 for me and the 2 kids) but pretty good food.
