As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Spellin\' It Out...
I thought I had it bad with my maiden name. I used to always be asked to spell it out, and even after that they'd confuse it with a certain yellow citrus fruit, or Nimoy's first name, or Vladimir's last name, and if they got it right, it was always "Oh! Are you related to [insert Beatle here]???!!!!??" No!
So I was glad to take on a new name in February 2004, but Wally warned me. IT'S TEN TIMES WORSE! I get trillions of crazy spellings by people who don't ask (so far, "pencil" with a "W" is my favorite) but it's even worse when they DO ask. It's only got six letters peeeeeople! They get all confused when I spell it, so I make a conscious effort to go slowly and pause where the syllabic break occurs, which breaks it only down to THREE letters per syllable...I do the whole "ZEEEEEEE as in ZEEEEEEBRA" thing....and today, I get mail addressed to Rachael Wizmdell. (Note: my first name has only one A.) My last name is Wenzel, does not rhyme with Denzel, and for the few locals who do understand what I'm saying, frequently ask if I'm related to a local hockey player. NO!
Please commiserate with me before I get more postal.

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
I feel your pain my maiden name was 10 letters ending in "eveur" which confused the heck out of most people. I used to get "Ahh, ahh Crystal Cre......oh you know who you are" Anyway, so I marry a man with a nice easy 6 letter simple last name and people still screw it up bad!! I have a friend whose last name is Smith and people still mess that up!! They say Ms. Smyth or Smeeth. DUH!!!!!!!!!
The funny thing is a while back I got a cake for my Uncle John's Bday. So I get it at Baskin Robins and asked them to put "Happy Birthday John" on it and they ask me how to spell it so I Say "J-o-h-n". The dipwad says Ok and goes to write it on the cake and comes back with ONLY "John" on the cake - No "Happy Birthday". I ask where it is and they said "You didn't tell us how to spell it" WHAT!! I think some people are getting stupider daily.

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
My first name is Cornelia. Actually, very lovely name! But I've always gone by my initials Cam. In elementary school kids at Valentines wanted to challenge themselves by spelling my real first name. For some reason, other kids thought my name needed as many "Ls" as possible. Since my nickname is Cam, many people think I'm actually Camilla or Camille. One strange one was Camela since I have a sister named Pamela. Must have thought my parents were crazy. My last name is now Matthews. But people never know if it needs one or two "Ts" and if it gets and "S" or not. Then we decided to spell our DD's name S-t-e-f-a-n-i-e. As she says no "PH" please. So I definitely empathize with you.

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
I married a Murphey....Yes, that's Murphey....with an "ey". People screw that one up all the time. I used to be Taylor...that was so easy and I never had trouble with that one.

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
My GF's 1st name was A.Y. didn't stand for anything, it was just A.Y. and NOBODY knows why That was always interesting at the license bureau. Last name was Gray...A-Y, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it
I named my 1st 3 DDs "normal" names w/ standard spellings: Nicole, Megan, Sarah, but DD4 was named after my pseudonym on AOL when DH and I met...Breeanna. Cool, I thought, spelled phonetically, no problems. WRONG. She is 6 and tells people, "2 E-s, 2 A-s, 2 N-s" with a

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
Rachel I totally understand! Before I got married my name was Suddeth. I thought that one was hard for people. I used get Sudduth, Sudder, and more. Then I get married and my last name only has 6 letters and it's spelled phonetically... L O F L I N!! Not hard people. But I usually get people trying to spell it Laughlin. That way seems much more difficult. When we go out to eat we usually have to listen for any party of 2 that sounds like Loflin, Loftin, Loftis, Loflis, etc. I guess I'll aways be burdened with last name issues!

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
Kyle's last name is very unusual, it's romanian, and always ALWAYS is spelled incorrectly. When we go out to eat we always put in one of our first names.

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
DH has a long German last name which noone seems to be able to pronounce correctly even if they've know us for years. My first name is Elizabeth which I always have to spell for people. My maiden name was short but noone could spell it either .

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
Try exchanging Fortenberry for Huddleston!
Obviously, I dropped my maiden name when I got married. Can you imagine being Christie Fortenberry Huddleston?
So when we go out to eat we give my husband's name Jay, that seems to work for everybody.

Re: Spellin\' It Out...
Our last name is Powell but the way DH pronouces it everyone spells it Pal at least they still say it the same way. I always have to spell it out for example Pal P-o-w-e-l-l !! All of DH's friends call him Pal instead of Jimmy, it gets confusing. We've also gotten Towell and my personal favorite Bowell on mail.

I can join in your pain! If I get called Donna Summer one more time..... And there is no "e" on the end of our name, but EVERYBODY adds one, even if I spell it out slowly and say No E! Oh, well. The people that matter get it right!
