Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your San Francisco \"Must- Do\'s\"

Kelly,
Be prepared, it's rained on and off today and it looks like rain & possible thunder tomorrow until probably mid-afternoon. At this point they are projecting the rain will be back Sunday night. Friday and Saturday are supposed to be nice. (But probably not too warm.)
Hope you have a nice, uneventful flight out here.

Re: Your San Francisco \"Must- Do\'s\" **UPDATE**

Just wanted to let you guys know we had a GREAT time! Thanks for all the input. Our first day, we arrived around noon, checked in the Courtyard at Marriott(our room had an Alcatraz view) we had lunch at Eagle Cafe(just OK,) it was on Pier 39 which was where we needed to be to catch the boat to Alcatraz. Did the Alcatraz night tour which had tour guides as well as taped tour. This tour was really interesting. Afterwards we looked around Pier 39, checked out the seals and headed back to the room around 10pm(I had a bit of a stomach ache)Saturday we toured the USS Pampanito submarine, SS Jeremiah O'Brien Liberty ship, PacBell Giants stadium, ate lunch at MoMo's(had cheese lasagne with marinara, meat sauce-good). Drove down(sideways)Lombard street then across the Golden Gate bridge (awesome)to Sausalito, shopped a bit, we each got a Rocky Road ice cream cone then to Muir Woods. Wow, these trees are impressive! The mile up and mile down the trail reminded me I should of spent more time on the treadmill, whew. After that we decided to go back and we had dinner at La Salsa(good)then we hopped on board a streetcar (bumblebee 1057)and rode all the way to Castro street, where the driver said "end of the line" Now why didn't I listen to you guys I was getting nervous, it was dark and unfamiliar but about that time we saw a taxi. It took me no time to get to the guy and we were on our way back to Pier 39. We did a little more shopping and watched those guys who make paintings with spray cans. Then back to the room around 11:30pm (which was 1:30 TX time) Sunday morning back to Pier 39, to pick up an Alcatraz book we missed. Passed a cable car pick up, so we hopped on. It was what I wanted to ride instead of the streetcar last night but didn't know before where it picked up at, it was one of those open-air trolley cars. Those streets are really steep, I'd hate to have to drive a manual transmission around this town We had to get out of town so we grabbed our bags and took off. Somehow we missed the bay bridge so we wandered around about 10 minutes before we got to the end of the bridge but we made it to the airport in time. San Francisco is a great town, we're planning to take the kids. A couple of observations, lots of happy dogs in SF, we were on the patio at lunch(MoMos) and several tables had dogs sitting at their owners feet(too cute)Our dog would go nuts wanting to eat. Also lots of BMW Z3's which is my DH's dream car, he said they were just taunting him What a great weekend!

Kelly,
I'm glad you had a good time. The weather turned out better than had been predicted.
Don't miss the Exploratorium when you bring the kids out. They'll love it.

Re: Your San Francisco \"Must- Do\'s\" **UPDATE**

Kelly,
I think you are probably thinking of City Hall. It's the only building I can think of with a copper dome. The Exploritorium is out in the Marina toward the Presideo, sort of on the way to the GG Bridge. It's in the Palace of Fine Arts. There is a large domed structure there, but it's not copper. It' actually a rusty-red plaster. It was built for one of the San Francisco Expos at the turn on the century. (Last one, not this one.) The address is 3601 Lyon St. and the wedsite is www.exploratorium.edu. It's totaly hands-on and I learn something new everytime we go!.
I would suggest that you buy an entertainment book before you come. You can purchase out of the area books at www.entertainment.com. I know the East Bay version has a buy one get one free admission for the Exploratorium, so I bet the SF one would too. My DH and I always get one if we are going away for the weekend. They more then pay for themselves if you use some of the restarants and alot of hotels have discounts, as well. I'm pretty sure the SF one has several restaurants at Pier 39. My DH and I spent a weekend in Monterey once and only picked restaurants out of the book. We saved about $200 between the restaurants and the hotel. It's really great!
Let me know if you have any other questions and especially when you're coming. I'd love to try and get together!! It would be neat to meet another Passporter!!
I'm really glad you and your DH had such a good time on your visit.
