Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Your Favorite Character Moment?????

I believe one of the most magical things that can happen at the World is character interaction. I'm like a little kid when it comes to the characters and have many great memories! Now, everytime I get to see Eeyore, I am extremely excited, but there is one character memory that sticks in my mind and makes me smile.

One my last trip, I had made an autograph book and the first half had pictures of the characters I knew I would run into and the other half was blank for those I just happen to come along. We had just gotten off of the Pooh ride and ran into Tweedle Dee and Dum. I waited in line and Tweedle Dee called me over. Now I handed him my book open to a blank page. Well, he started thumbing through it and saw that he didn't have a picture. He motioned for Tweedle Dum to come over and he showed him how they were not represented. Dum started shaking his finger at me and Dee threw my book on the ground and turned his back to me. I played along and apologized and asked sweetly for them to sign my book. The two of them were whispering back and forth and finally decided that if I would kiss each of them on the cheek they would sign it. Well, of course I did and got a great picture with the two of them (I'm trying to find my photo CD so you can see it.) My DH was laughing so hard and the small crowd that had gathered started clapping when they finally signed the book. It was a great memory!!

So what is your favorite character moment?????

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

Well, nothing like that for me, but my Mom was retelling a cute story about my sister the other day -

Back when the only character meal on property was Breakfast a la Disney on the Empress Lily, long before Pleasure Island was ever dreamed up, my Mom made us reservations because a friend of hers told her how great it was.

So we show up, and they give me and my sister name tags to wear. I was old enough to play along with wearing the name tag, but my sister was young enough that she *refused* to wear the name tag (you know how preschoolers have a mind of their own).

My Mom tried everything she could think of to get my sister to put her name tag on. My sister's favorite character was Pinocchio, so my Mom told her that Pinocchio would not know her name if she didn't wear her name tag. This didn't work - until Pinocchio showed up! Then she grabbed her name tag and slapped it on real quick.

When Pinocchio came to our table, my sister grabbed him and would not let go! Mama said that he had to keep waving goodbye to her for a long time before she finally let go of him.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

So, can I share another second-hand character moment?
Thanks, you're too kind!

The last time we ate at Garden Grill, it was not very crowded so the characters were able to spend a good bit of time at each table.

The family at the booth behind us had a couple of older kids as well as a little baby - probably only a few months old. Chip (or was it Dale?) knelt down on the ground beside their table and held the baby for a long time. The mother grabbed the video camera and started filming. Talk about a Kleenex/Kodak moment! It was so sweet, even I wanted to cry.

Ours has to be a picture we have of DS#1 when he was 15 months old and I was pregnant with DS#2. We went to WDW and we have a pic of DS#1 hugging Mickey and kissing his nose! ( He had many ear infections and had his first set of e-tubes at 15 months and called Mickey "Kickey". It was so special for me and I smile whenever I see the pic!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

A funny one for us was when Kylor was 5 and met Maleficent. He went up with his autograph book and before she would sign it she asked him 'Do you think I'm pretty' Kylor of course said 'no' So she repeated 'I SAID do you think I'm pretty' Kylor again said 'no', so she closed the autograph book and was holding it in the air. Kylor was jumping for it. She then left her spot and went over by a wall and held the book over the wall threatening to drop it to the ground way down there She finally relented, signed the book and haughtily posed for a photo. People were all around just cracking up - somebody out there has the whole thing on video, too

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

When we went in 2000 DD#3 had just turned 2. She was terrified of the characters. The first day at MK we saw Rafiki, Baloo, Genie, Captain Hook & Mr. Smee and she either refused to get in the picture at all (Captain Hook) or is in the picture with either me or DH holding her as far away from the character as possible. The second day we went to MGM and found Sorceror Mickey we got in line and I put her down since she was getting heavy and she jumped out of line and ran up in front of everyone with a big smile on her face to give Mickey a big hug. She was so cute and so happy no one even cared. After that she was fine and got in every picture with the characters except for the evil queen from Snow White. The memory of her happy little face always makes me smile and is what keeps me going back there for more moments like that!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

My mom and I are on the KTTK Tour we had just left the check in desk and were in the hub looking down Main Street facing the castle when Captain Hook and Smee come out for autographs and photos. Captain Hook is one of my favorites other then Grumpy of course. Well as the guide is talking to one of the other tour guests I am about 10 feet away From Captain Hook and I start teasing him going "tick tock tick tock tick tock" well he got mad at me and started shaking his hook at me and went back to autographs for this family who were laughing at what he was doing. Well I started teasing him again after the photos were done and they realized what i was doing so they stayed and watched. Captain Hook gets madder and takes my hat off my face and shakes his hook again as he throws the hat across main street and made me "walk the plank" to go get it basically off the edge of the sidewalk. Well, the group was in hysterics but we continued the tour. End up in Adventureland where again Captain hook comes out and I start tick tock tick tock again. Was the same one he grabs my hat and tosses it into the walkway into the POTC ride and made me go get it...everyone was losing it as he played his role really well!

That was the most magical Moment for me...Now only if I could find Grumpy! Never ever ever met him and I love him!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

My favorite was in Nov 2002 at Donald's Breakfastsaurus. My DS (age 15, then) had broken (by accident) my other DS's (age 2, then) arm and it was in a cast. When Goofy had come to our table and inquired what had happened to DS's arm, he stood older son in corner as punishment. When Goofy's back was turned, son came back to table but Goofy caught him. Goofy then called Donald over and they both kicked him out of the restaraunt. It was so funny and my oldest is the shiest(sp?) of my three children, it was just priceless. All the surrounding tables were laughing as hard as we were. Thankfully, my DH caught it all on video tape.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

Mine just happened a little less than a month ago!

We were at AK . . . it was me, DH, DD, DMIL, DFIL and my 2 Cast Member friends. We'd just come out of Festival of the Lion King and were headed to Pizzafari for lunch. DD saw Lilo and Stitch out so we got in line. When we were about 7 or 8 back from the front of the line, the "handler" came along and said that Lilo and Stitch only had about 5 minutes left . . . then told us that we'd more than likely be the last in line to see them before the break. (YAY!!!)

It finally was our turn, so we all came through and Emilie went up with her autograph book . . . but Stitch didn't want the book OR the pen, he wanted the popcorn bucket full of snacks that my friend Kevin was holding!!! He grabbed the bucket from Kevin and opened it up . . . rummaged through it . . . all the while Emilie is freaked out because "Stitch is stealing my snacks!!!" Well, he found a bag of Spongebob cookies and decided that's what he wanted . . . so he grabbed them out and stuffed them in his mouth.

Lilo stepped in and started scolding Stitch . . . he gestured that he just wanted to eat the cookies. Meanwhile, Emilie is shaking her finger at him saying "Stitch, you can't eat my cookies! That's a bad, bad boy!" The more Emilie and Lilo told him "no", the more Stitch got "upset" (and so did all of the people in line behind us, who were not aware that we were the last ones in line before the break) Eventually, Stitch gave the cookies up (but only because my friend Ricky asked for them! ) Emilie wanted to be sure she had those cookies so, she grabbed them from Ricky!

When I asked Lilo, Stitch and Emilie if I could take a picture, only Lilo and Emilie smiled . . . Stitch was crying!!! I did give him a big hug before we left and told him to go have a snack!!!

Stitch has the bucket behind his back (on the right hand side as you're looking at it)

Ricky attempting to get the cookies back, Emilie scolding Stitch and Lilo trying to read Emilie's name tag

Emilie's got a firm grip on the cookies and everyone is happy . . . except poor crying Stitch!!!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

I have a few......During our family's 1st trip in 2003, my DD was only 23 months old so she wasn't too familiar with the characters pass the Fab 5 and Pooh gang, Bear, etc. By the time we came home she was all about Ariel. Well fast forward 1 year and we find ourselves at Ariel's Grotto. My daughter jumps on her lap, takes her picture with her brother and then proceeds to ask all sorts of questions....where's Ursula, your father, Prince Eric? Then she starts singing "Part of your World" and Ariel joins in !!! Ariel couldn't believe she was "not quite 3" . My baby was so happy, that I was almost crying. Later on in the parade Ariel saw Mya in the crowd-gets eric's attention and they both wave at her..WHAT A MOMENT!!!!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

This is a second hand story, but it happened to me when I was about three years old and I have it on video (yep, the old kind - Super 8). My family went to Disneyland and Winnie the Pooh was standing still in the middle of the path. I went up to him and touched him then backed away. I went up to him again and reached out to touch him and he bent down. I jumped back as far as a three year old can jump and started screaming hysterically. Apparently I thought he was a statue and when he moved I freaked.

I guess I got over it as I love characters now more than ever !

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

My favourite moment was when Eeyore came out specially to present me with balloons, a card and cake for my 30th birthday and then "sang" Happy Birthday to me. He kept hugging me and it was just a magical experience. Even better, he was barely around at 1900 Park Fare that night and had gone in by the time we left, so it looks like he came out specially to see me. How is that?

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

We have so many. But I guess the best was when my DD (5 years) was holding her most loved stuffed animal dog at the parade in the MK. Curella Devile looked down at her and said "And what do you have there?" My DD looked horrified and pulled her dog behind her back. The whole crowd laughed and I explained she was just kidding. It was great.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????

Dawn, that is so cool!

My favorite character interaction was with my son in November. We had just gotten off of Splash Mountain and Goofy was standing there in a raincoat. We went up to get our picture with him and I think he assumed that we were married! (They don't call him Goofy for nothin'!) Anyway! Everytime the photographer tried to get our picture, he would shove Sean out of it and hug me! After this, Goofy has moved way up in my book!

P.S. Sean finally had to tell Goofy that I was his Mom!
