Hi all -

Is anyone familiar with the area around Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital?

My husband and I are waiting to hear from the physicians up there as to when he will be scheduled for an appointment and I want to be ready with where to stay.

We live in Virginia about 2 1/2 hours away from Baltimore.

I am looking for a decent hotel to stay in while he is at the hospital. I don't mind paying a little more for something that is a little better than the average place - if it's even available.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am not familiar with the area, have never been to Johns Hopkins, so I have no idea what's clean, good, etc., etc.

An onsite restaurant or restaurant close by is a plus as well. I will most likely be staying at the hotel by myself, so security is an issue, too.

Can anyone help me out or give me some suggestions as to where to start my search (street names, hotel names, etc). I have to be able to get to the hospital quickly, too.

The hospital is about 2 miles from the Inner Harbour Area. We have only stayed in the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Web page It was kind of expensive about $200 per night, but it was very nice, safe and had a sit down restaurant, a take out cafe and a bar. There are quite a few hotels in the downtown area and the further from on the actual water you get the price goes down. Good luck finding a place to stay - wish I could be more helpful but this is the only place we have stayed. that everything turns out well with DH.

When in doubt I always stay at a Marriott Brand Hotel. I know there are a couple by the Harbor but they are very expensive (but nice).

Let me check around. We live close enough that we've never had to spend the night.

Crystal is correct about looking at Inner Harbor, however, they are pricey. Stay away from BWI airport hotels, they are not in the city and are south of Baltimore. Anything near Pratt Street, Broadway, or anything Inner Harbor related will be within 2 miles. The closer to the Harbor the more they will be. I've called a few girlfriends to ask what they would recommend (nurses). As soon as I know I'll post. I'd also look on the JHMC website and look under patient info. They should have a number for patient assistance and they should be able to recommed something close and safe, they have so many out of town guests.

You all have been so helpful. I'll check back to the forum often to see what other info you have found out.

I have looked at the Johns Hopkins website and it is helpful. I am going to call Monday morning to see what they suggest (there are sometimes hospital discounts at certain facilities), but I also want to have a list in hand of what "passporters" suggest. This way, I will feel confident about making a reservation because I will be able to make an informed decision.

I'm going to look at the web page of the Marriott right now.

There's a Marriott Courtyard not too far away. It's a little farther from the waterfront, so it may not be as pricey as the full service Marriotts.

My mom was a patient at JHU last February. She was operated on for pancreatic cancer. It is a wonderful facility. Contact the hospital. They have a lot of different options for families that aren't in the area including townhouses. We are about 2 hours away in the Philly suburbs. Good luck.

I have just contacted JH and they are sending me a list of about 20 places that offer lodging and hospital rates.

I think I will look over the list, and add the ones that passporters recommend, and then make my "informed" decision.

If anyone has some other suggestions, I'm all ears!

There are two hospitals listed that I can get for $59 -100/night. Those are the hospital rates.

One is the Peabody and the other is Wyndham Baltimore Inner Harbor. Both have shuttle service to the hospital (what a godsend!). There is also a Days Inn, but I'm not going that route this time.

I am leaning towards the Peabody (see my other post) unless someone can sway me differently. I don't know anything about the Wyndham - looks nice enough online. I still haven't decided yet, as I am waiting for the physician from Johns Hopkins to call.
