Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Williamsburg

Hey Everybody,
I'm going down to Williamsburg, Va sometime this summer with my boyfriend and my two brothers whom are grown teenagers. I was wondering if anybody stayed at any decent hotels, condo's or plantation's ( i saw a couple of these on travelocity.com) down there. There's alot to choose from. I'm thinking a condo might be cheaper since we will probably have to get two rooms in a hotel.Plus they usually come with a full kitchen which would be cheaper then going out to restaurants the whole time. I can't wait, I love Busch Gardens! We are also thinking about driving over to Virginia Beach after a couple of days at busch gardens. Any tips would be helpful. The last time i went was probably four years ago. Thanks, Melissa

Re: Williamsburg

I have only stayed at the Marriott right next to Busch Gardens and it was perfectly fine. But there are literally hundreds of hotels/motels to choose from in the Wilmsbrg area. I only live about 60 miles from Wlmsbrg, so generally when I go it's for a day trip.

I wish I could give you more help, but don't have enough experience with all the places that are offered.

I love Busch Gardens, too!!

Re: Williamsburg

Check out SkyAuction.com. They have several timeshare visits up for auction right now.

Very nice condo places are supposed to be Powhatan Plantation, Patriot's Place, One called Kingsmill Resort (or something close to that). Some very nice hotels are the Ramada Inn 1776, Fort Magruder Inn, Patrick Henry Inn, Williamsburg Lodge.

I stayed at an Econolodge a few years back that was actually very nice. It was something like the King George Inn but was owned by Econolodge (there were tons of Econolodges in Williamsburg at that time!!!). I don't know if it's still an EL or not. It's across the road from the 1776.

Do not stay at the Days Inn nearest Busch Gardens (the one on Water Country Parkway). I stayed there when it was new and it was very nice. however, it has not been kept up at all. I stayed there I beleive it was Sept 2002. If I had gotten it cheap on Priceline, say $30/night, I wouldn't complain. However, we paid around $65 + tax, and I was not happy at all w/ it. 4 starbursts my foot!

I typed in Williamsburg+hotels in Google and found a place that has a lot of the hotels listed. Williamsburg.no1hotels.net. There's a Country Inn and Suites on Bypass Rd that looks good from it's pictures.

Hope you find soemthing good!

We are going to Williamsburg next month. We will be staying at the Radisson Fort Magruder Inn. Although this is our first trip to Williamsburg, our kids have stayed there before and have chosen the same hotel for us to stay in this trip. My son booked our rooms through Priceline at only $70 a room - a great price for such a nice hotel.

Re: Williamsburg

I've stayed at the Fort Magruder Inn before and the Williamsburg Hospitality House as well. The are both nice hotels and I'd recommend both. The Williamsburg Hospitality House is within walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg, which is a huge plus!

There are a ton of timeshares and condos for rent around Williamsburg and we've stayed in one before, but I just can't seem to recall what it was called. There is a site called TimeShare Users Group that list rentals (some are a bit steep in price) that you could look over. And I agree SkyAuction is a good place to look to.

Re: Williamsburg

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Williamsburg for our tenth anniversary four years ago. The hotel suites had a main bedroom with a seperate pull out couch in the living area. Both rooms had their own TV. The hotel was very nice, and the prices at the time were very reasonable. It was a short drive to the Williamsburg Visitors Center (where your buy you tickets).

Re: Williamsburg

I live in Richmond (about an hour away) a lot of the little Mom and Pop motels in Williamsburg are clean and neat... there are a ton of places to stay close to 64 and to the Colonial area.... easy to get to BG from there or VA Beach... Make sure you eat at the Trellis (in Merchants Square Colonial Williamsburg) while you're there... It is wonderful! Lunch is cheaper than dinner... and whatever you do, don't skip dessert! Marcel Desaulneirs is famous for his Death By Chocolate Cake and many others..... Here is the main link for the TrellisThe Trellis

Re: Williamsburg

I'll second that! The Trellis is awesome - try getting the chef's table by the kitchen. You can watch them prepare the food and they talk with you! It's really fun but it can get a little warm but still is worth it!!

I can't offer help with a hotel since we are timeshare owners in Wmbg but Governor's Green is an awesome timeshare that has a great indoor pool. They have other ammenities in the "club house" too.

Have a wonderful time! We love Wmbg and the surrounding areas. Yorktown is another favorite and they have a little beach too right in town. Don't forget to visit some of the plantations around the area, too.
