As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I messed up, need remedy. Help?
With my trip to Disney only 3 1/2 weeks away, I knew that I had to go out and get some sun now to avoid serious burning in Florida. Normally, I start the hot weather season with going out for 15-20 minute intervals with loads of sunscreen. I burn very easily. However, the pool looked way too inviting today, and I ended up spending an hour and 15 minutes out there. I was using waterproof SPF 45 sunscreen, but still managed to burn like a lobster.
I am already starting to blister all over my face, shoulders, legs, arms and other exposed areas of my bathing suit. I am applying aloe, and taking tylenol like it is going out of style, but can't seem to get the burning, chills, and headache under control. I always get one bad burn each year, but this is ridiculous and miserable. Anyone found anything else that helps soothe a bad burn.
Well, I guess better now, than after I get to Florida, but doesn't feel great now.

Hi Crackers,
Sorry to hear about your sunburn. I use something called Reulie Gel made by Band Aid. It does smell but is very good on burns. Good Luck.

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
Hello Crackers,
I am so sorry to hear about your pain. I use an old fashioned remedy.. UDDER BALM or BAG BALM. I get DR NAYLORS Udder BALM and use it for so many things esp burns. I had a 3rd degree burn from a cooking accident and was using ALOE without RELIEF. I but Udder Balm on it,, and it healed with very little scarring. You get it at most farm supply stores or some PHARMACY's may carry it now. Be sure NOT to get the kind at WALMART,, that is a cosmetic type ,, more like a Vaseline hand lotion. Also, be sure to drink LOTS OF WATER. like 64 oz, that is why you are having a fever... be sure if it does continue you do seek medical help.
Above all, be careful than on your cruise. Did you forget to put more on after swimming. Also, think about wearing a T-shirt while swimming if your that sensitive.
Good luck.
Reenie

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE. I take aleve instead of tylenol - Aleve is an anti-inflammatory.... your skin is definately inflamed.
Then I take a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and soak it in cold water - wring it out and put in on my body and wear it to bed. So what if the sheets get wet - it helps to cool off my skin. Not sure what to tell you about the chills - your body is trying to regulate your temp....
Hope that you feel better soon.

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
Sounds like you also have a touch of sun poisoning. I agree with Terri, Aleve (or Motrin) is better than Tylenol. Drink tons of water, stay away from caffeine (acts as a diuretic) and stick with cold water, not ice on your skin.
DH got a bad burn the last day of our cruise. Here's what we did: I cooled his back with cool cloths, and then put aloe on. He put on a baggy cotton T-shirt (lightweight, but kept the covers from scratching his skin). I sent him to bed with Motrin for pain, Benadryl to help him sleep, and a huge glass of water by his side. He felt better when he woke up, not cured, but at least the edge had been taken off.
to help you feel better.

Crackers, I can't help, but I can sympathise, having got badly burnt in Florida twice in the last two weeks. that you're soon on the mend - it's a miserable time.

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
Thanks all. Sleeping last night was more not sleeping than sleeping, but I like the idea of putting a cotton t-shirt in cool water. Unfortunately, I can't take motrin or any other anti-inflammatory (wish I could, but have an asthmatic sensitivity to those meds), so I have to stick to tylenol. I will look for some of those ointments while I am out today.
I usually only get it bad once a year, but then again I don't go to Florida every year. I think I just got fooled when the sun kept hiding behind the clouds yesterday and didn't keep up with my normal obsession of reapplying the sun screen.
Well, all I can say is, lesson well learned, and hope it stays fresh in my mind when we get to Florida.

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
I've heard that soaking in vinegar will help sunburn, but if you have any open blisters, I wouldn't do that. I would be tempted to call the Doctor and see what they suggest.

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
There is (or was) a product called Solarcaine, which was quite effective in taking the pain out of a sunburn (temporarily). I had a burn once very much like the one you describe, and have been ultra-careful in the sun ever since. Vinegar is okay, but not all that effective. There are several sunburn products on the market, most contain aloe plus a mild anesthetic. You may want to check into one of these.

Gosh, I am so sorry you got such a burn! that it will soon heal!
I've also heard that not only can you use tea, but use the tea bag!! That works wonders.
Good luck!

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
Here is some pixie dust to try and help the burn. Solarcaine has always worked for me. But it sounds like you might need to call the dr. and see if they have anything to help especially if you have blisters. Hope it heals very quickly!

Re: I messed up, need remedy. Help?
Thanks all for your suggestions. I knew about solarcaine, but haven't been able to find any anywhere. I have been using some of the other ideas here though. It is doing better today, however was not very happy when I had to put on more restrictive clothing for work today. (not lucky enough to wear t-shirts, etc to work) But, hopefully another day or two will make things feel a little better.
