Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

That's really unbelievable that you had to wait that long for two cokes! I've read other reviews about Woody's Lunchbox and they need to get a better system in place over there. We never did get to ride the Alien Swirling Saucers on this trip but hopefully in 2019 we will! So sorry that you had such a bad experience on Slinky Dog. It was a fun ride but not something that I would wait on a long line for in the future. Hope you felt better by the time you got to DS.

The mobile order has worked fairly well when we were getting meals, but the two or so times we've just ordered drinks, it hasn't been a good idea at all.

I have always suffered from motion sickness, but it has gotten worse the older I get. I've already cut our Space Mountain and Expedition Everest. I may have to go completely coaster-free.

Definitely a fail on Disney's part not to at least make the queues shadier. I think all the really great work is being done on Galaxy's Edge. To me Toy Story Land felt a little less thought out.

We had read the same reviews on Woody's Lunch Box, but wanted to give it a try ourselves. So now we have at least tried it. I will eventually feel better, but riding a bus was not ideal.

NEXT: Three Men and Three Double Strollers

Saturday, October 13, 2018 Part 3

Our long walk to the temporary bus stops at Hollywood Studios now began. I will admit that I hardly remember the walk as I was more focused on keeping my lunch down. Every bus stop seemed to have very long lines as Luke and I reached the one way down at the end that would take us to Disney Springs. Fortunately, once there our wait was short as a bus arrived in two minutes. We had arrived right at 3:58, and Luke told me the buses to Disney Springs start at 4:00, so I’m sure to keep guests happy buses are in place right at 4:00. Again there is very little shade here, but it appears that will be remedied when the new stops open up in summer of 2019. Ahead of us in the bus queue were three dads each with a double stroller, which none of them bothered to close until it was their turn to board the bus. Each of them then boarded and stopped just behind the yellow line, totally blocking off the entrance right as it was our turn to board. I wish I had felt better because I would have paid attention to our driver’s name and written it down to send in a commendation because he was truly a blessing. He came off the bus and directed Luke and I to follow him, escorting us to the back doors of the bus. I truly think he could tell I was green around the gills. He motioned for us to go up the steps as there were two seats still available there. He then went back and brought a few more folks on board. I had mused as we waited that I needed inside an air-conditioned bus, so even if I had to stand I would. Fortunately, we got the last two seats. I lay my head on Luke’s shoulder and shut my eyes for the entire ride. The bus’s motion did make me feel queasy a few times, but as I cooled off, life got better.

By the time we arrived, I was feeling more like myself, so once at Disney Springs, we headed in the shops, turning left to Vera Bradley. On my wish list was a triple zip crossbody bag in the new Disney pattern that was released about a month before our trip. I told Luke as we walked toward the store that I had a gut feeling that it was sold out. But just that morning, I had gotten an email from Vera Bradley, highlighting their newest pattern, Bordeaux Blooms. I actually like the colors much better in the Bordeaux Blooms than in the Disney pattern. I figured, if both were available, I would have a decision on my hands. When I walked in and cast member Katie immediately asked if she could help me, I asked about the availability of the Disney pattern. Sold out was her response, and I was happy because the new Bordeaux Blooms items were everywhere, and I loved it. She asked if I knew what I wanted. Of course, I did. Katie quickly gathered up the items as I mentioned them – first the triple zip hipster crossbody, then the RFID turnlock wallet, and the zip ID case. I was bubbling with excitement. As we walked to the registers to check out, I asked if they had an AP or DVC discount. Then she made me even happier by telling me that the current deal was $30 of $125. I wondered if I had bought enough which made her laugh. Katie let me know that I most definitely had. Sweet!

Up next was Uniqlo where I found some long-sleeve tees. I had looked for some at the Opry Mills Mall back in Nashville but hadn’t liked any I saw. Here at Uniqlo I found six, two of those being short sleeve. The cast member who checked me out allowed me to use the D23 (yes that is correct) discount, treating me like a cast member, for five shirts. Very cool! Then she rang up the last one with a code on my Uniqlo app. This gave me those savings, and I appreciated her willingness to do it this way. Oops! I forgot to take a photos of the short-sleeve gray tee.

Finally, we headed to one of Luke’s favorites, the Lego Store. We thoroughly canvassed the entire store, but only purchased two BrickHeadz kits, one for Mr. and Mrs. Claus and one for a witch. We use these in our home decorating. The cast member here had several issues checking us out, switching us twice from one register to another. In the end we got the DVC discount, but she forgot to use Luke’s reward dollars as a Lego VIP. It was only $5 this time, so no big deal, and we’ll use it another time. Sort of a comedy of errors.

From Lego, we made our way to the World of Disney, where the refurbishing of the store was about half finished. We entered on the right of the store where the remodel was complete. Very nice décor and lots more rooms between displays even with all the store housed in this half. We next went into the Pin Traders shop, looking for something, which I do not now remember. We left empty-handed. We like wandering through the Market Place Co-Op, though I’m not sure we’ve ever bought anything at the shops here. We followed the Market Place by visiting Days of Disney, checking out the Christmas wares.

No purchases were made in any of the above stores. But that changed when we went in The Art of Disney. We had noticed a sign outside that Don “Ducky” Williams was on site, signing his prints. We did not know any specifics about his work before walking over to his display. I found a print of the Seven Dwarfs that along with one by Noah will be framed and displayed beside a Seven Dwarfs giclee that already hangs over our bed.
As we now made our way toward our dinner destination, I asked Luke if there was anywhere else he’d like to shop. The only thing on his wish list prior to the trip was a new pair of Oakleys. So before headed to the restaurant, we stopped at the Oakley Store. He didn’t find anything he liked and the staff here didn’t seem to interested in selling anything. After a restroom break, we made our way to The Edison to check in for dinner.

The Edison has such a cool interior design. We were told once we were checked in that it would just be a few minutes. I used that time to get a few photos of the upstairs entrance area.

Shortly, we were taken downstairs to a table not far from one of the bars. There was a small stage area on the other side of our table with a series of ancient short films playing throughout our dinner.

The Catalog of Parts, i.e. menu, is not extensive, but we both found something we thought we’d enjoy.

Luke selected The Edison, their signature burger, and I decided on the Old-Fashioned Meatloaf and Gravy. The photos don’t do justice to our meals. My meal was so large that there was no way I would be able to finish it, but it was very delicious. Luke cleaned his plate. We did manage to share a chocolate gelato for dessert. Besides being an excellent meal, this one was not that pricey in Disney terms. With two drinks, two entrees, and a dessert it came to $63.98 with our Tables in Wonderland discount. We plan to come back here on future trips.

I captured a bit more of the restaurant on our way out.

By now we were done and ready for our resort. After going the wrong way to the bus stops, we finally arrived at bus stop #23. We had a little bit of a wait, but we were the first in line, and therefore, first on board.

Back at Kidani Village, I switched my stuff to my new Vera Bradley bag. Soon after we were in bed, setting the alarm for a wee bit later.

NEXT: A Practically Perfect Start to the Day

Sorry you were still a bit queasy. And I know the hot sun doesn’t help!

What’s wrong with people? We encountered several of those last minute stroller people as well. And of course they block the door while they’re folding it up.
No common sense!
