Putting a boot into our original Easter plans… COMPLETED 5/3 - Page 29 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Despite the scary road, the views along the coast into Sidmouth are breathtaking! Nice views along the waterfront too, even if it's a bit rough.
Don't you just love places that don't charge and arm and a leg for a drink?! And it's such a beautiful setting in there too.
Pork is often paired with sweet sauces, and yeah, I've had some that are just too overpowering too. Bummer for Mark.
That's a literal slap in the face as you walked back! Stupid rain. I bet those waves were crashing hard into the shore by now with that powerful wind! We had wind like that a few weeks ago and it's crazy scary to see those waves hitting the shoreline.

No, I can't stand that either. It felt as if I was constantly having to fend them off during the course of the evening.
I got up about 6:30am and when I went into the front room, the first thing that hit me was the sound of the waves roaring in. I swear it was worse than last night. I tried to get some photos of it, as it was quite the sight…
We were ready quite a bit before breakfast was due to be served, so we decided to head down and take some of our bits and pieces back to the car. When we got out of the door, we were in for a shock and a pleasant one – it was so much warmer than last night. The wind had dropped completely and it wasn’t raining, so it was really nice out, despite the look of the sea.
We headed back to the car, seeing there was a parking space right outside the hotel. The parking restrictions only came into force at 10:00am and we’d be gone before then, so Mark moved the car round, which will make things easier.
Then we wandered along the seafront, with me trying to get some photos of the sea coming in and crashing on the beach below, but of course, every time I was ready and waiting to get a shot, the sea would decide that actually it was going to break along a different bit of shoreline. Isn’t that always the way?
We were brave at one point and actually crossed the road on to the promenade to get some photos. I figured there were quite a few people around, many of whom I suspect were locals, so I guess they weren’t fazed by the sea. I got the impression that, although you may get a bit wet, that was about the worst it usually gets around here.
We were still early for breakfast, so we joined quite a few other people sitting waiting in the bar. The coach trip that had been here were leaving today, as their luggage was all piled up, ready to go, so there were a lot of people in, but at least we were served quickly and were done with breakfast within half an hour. There are no photos, as we had exactly what we did yesterday, with the exception of the fact we both had two poached eggs, rather than one, as we’d enjoyed them so much yesterday.
Once we were done, we headed back to the room to clean our teeth and gather the last of our belongings together before heading out.
We took our stuff back to the car and checked out, heading out along the seafront. We couldn’t believe it when we saw these guys coming out of the sea – they’d been swimming.
I’d asked Mark over breakfast what he wanted to do. As you may remember from the pre-trip report, we were going to go to Petworth, a National Trust property, on the way home, but the weather forecast was terrible, with weather warnings for heavy rain and Mark wasn’t feeling great. As he was the driver, I figured it needed to be his shout. He opted to just go straight home, which was fine with me. We’d had a lovely weekend away and, as he said, Petworth is about an hour and a half away from where we live and we can always visit on a weekend.
We ended up taking a different route out of Sidmouth to the one we usually go on and it was very nice, albeit wet and misty….
The rain set in not long after we left Sidmouth and we knew we were driving into it.
We ran into some traffic not long before Stonehenge, but at least I was able to get a couple of photos while we were stopped…
Finally, we were passing Stonehenge itself…
… and the piggy neighbours opposite…
We had a pit stop to get some more gas for the car and a chance to stretch our legs. When we got towards the M25, also known as the car park around London, Google Maps was telling us to find another route, as the traffic was so bad along there, so we carried on along the motorway we were on and ended up going through south west London.
Unfortunately, Google Maps then told us there was a massive talkback around Hampton Court, so we went another way, but it all worked out, as we were passing alongside the River Thames, which was neat. It was actually overflowing in some places due to all the rain we’ve had recently.
We drove over the Thames shortly afterwards….
… and saw some nice cheap cars nearby!
Then we were on our way back on the M25, with really heavy rain. It was not nice to drive in and I really felt for Mark.
Finally we were back home and, even as we were unloading the car, it was tipping with rain. Ugh. Oh well, it’s typical for Bank Holidays over here, so I guess it was to be expected and we’d still had some good weather and a lovely time away. I’ll take that.
The weather today was heavy rain and cold with temperatures in the high 40s. The best thing today was getting home and out of the horrible driving conditions. The worst thing today was the weather. Today we tried taking a detour to avoid traffic on the M25 And the result was we saw some new parts of London (well, new to me anyway )

Swimmers? Holy cow. That's dedication. Or that's just straight up crazy.
Smart call to skip your last property visit. That rain was not going to make it pleasant! And you still got to see some new sights on the way home.

It's been a pleasure. It's a shame the weather marred the final day and we didn't get to do anything other than drive home, but the rest of the weekend was truly wonderful.
