Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ok, I've made it to the end of day three and here are my comments so far...

Interesting that you got such good deals through the Flight Centre. I’ve never considered them and I don’t know if I would now, having read your experiences with them. I originally assumed you were using someone like Trailfinders, who we have found to be very cheap in the past. Anyway, what a complete nightmare with those flight times!

It was interesting to read your planning for Tokyo Disney, as it brought back memories. We did the same, opting for Tokyo DisneySea on the second day, and I think it was the right choice, as once we saw that, we didn’t want to go back to the other park!

I had to laugh when I read your comment about Virgin Atlantic, you are so right about them constantly serving up curry!

Interesting about the portable Wi-Fi unit. It’s not something I’d have ever thought of, as I tend to find our British phone works Ok just about anywhere in the world.

So sorry to hear about Robin’s mum. I hope it all worked out Ok?

That hotel in Doha sounds absolutely amazing, just a shame you didn’t have longer to spend there.

So funny one of the first things you noticed about Japan was the efficiency of their public transport system – isn’t it amazing? We were blown away by it on our visit.

I loved your first day at Tokyo Disney, very relaxed. And yes, you’re so right about the parades, it is very weird, but honestly, having been there, I absolutely love the way they do things for parades and I wish every other Disney theme park in the world would follow suit.

What a shame you didn’t know about the hand translators for the Enchanted Tiki Room with Stitch. I assume they still do them? We were offered them on our visit, and it literally translated the whole show for us. It was so neat!

Days 9 and 10 comments: I imagine visiting Hiroshima would be quite sobering, and it sounds like the museum and gardens have been well-done. But good grief, what was it with all the students and their surveys. Thank goodness, someone came along so you knew which entrance would get you to the train. Your resort in Hong Kong sounds wonderful.

You HAVE to go to Tokyo, honestly - if you are a Disney lover, then you need to experience DisneySea - it is so unique and gorgeous.

We loved the politeness of folk during parades and shows. No selfie-sticks or iPads stuck in front of my face, no kids on shoulders blocking the view, everyone was incredibly polite and aware of others trying to watch, it was amazing.

It was indeed terrifying, but once we 'manned up' and tried to think for ourselves, it turned out okay.

Shanghai is definitely on the horizon, just not sure when yet .....

Thank You for this trip report.
Thank you! So kind of you to say that. It was indeed an awesome trip, and I am so glad I took down the detailed notes that I did, as we did so much in the 3 weeks that we would probably forget lots of bits if I hadn't written it all down!

Yes, the Torii gate was just so beautiful, and somewhere I never thought I would see. We had to laugh at the ferry incident, that poor man was so irate!

What? We could have had translators?? We didn't see them, and no-one offered them to us. Tsk, how irritating.

The public transport was just so mind-blowing, particularly when you compare it to UK public transport, which is particularly tripe. The hotel in Doha was so lovely, really luxurious and upmarket, it was just a shame we had so little time there really.

Robin's mum was fine in the end, but had to have an operation and then spend quite a bit of time recuperating, she is only just getting better now.

We really liked having the portable Wi-Fi unit, it saved me having to constantly check whether we were in a Wi-Fi zone or not. I would do that again if we could.

Honestly, Virgin Atlantic food is really pants - every trip is now either something with onion gravy, or curry. I have resigned myself to Boots meal-deals from now onwards!

I know exactly what you mean about DisneySea - once we had been in there, it was a wrench to go back to Disneyland for our 3rd day. It is just so incredibly well themed and unique!

The Flight Centre was a weird experience - their prices were so good, and the initial contact with them was excellent, but not letting us know about the flight changes was unforgiveable, and there were also changes made that they weren't even aware of, which was decidedly odd.

It was very sobering, but we're really glad we went, as it is a part of history that we covered at school years ago but I don't think you can possibly take in the magnitude of the event unless you see the museum and memorials.

Our resort in Hong Kong was really gorgeous, so immersive and dramatic!

As I say, it may have changed since our visit, it was a long time ago now (2009) but a Cast Member just offered one to us.

I hear you about that, but I refuse to pay for my meal before we board, when it's included in the price, although I appreciate you have other issues which mean you have to.

I walked past the Flight Centre in Canterbury and in the two and a half years I've worked there, I've never noticed Canterbury has one. Of course, I immediately thought of you!

Someday I really want to make the trip to Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, DD want's South Korea. So hearing about your trip helped me. I really enjoyed your TR!

Just finished your report. Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to write it all up! That was quite the trip! I would love to see those parks someday...I don't know if I will, so for now I'll live vicariously through you. The last time I was in Hong Kong, Disneyland probably wasn't even a glint in Disney's eyes yet! My brother and his family are actually at Tokyo Disneyland today and I think went to Disney Seas yesterday. I can't wait to see their pictures. I sent them a message with some of your highlights (like the nut and meat pastry near Pecos Bill's). I love your spirit of adventure, and it sounds like you managed admirably even with the sudden loss of your guides.

What a shame Robin and Larry weren't able to make the trip. I really do miss reading their TRs. They never did compile a 3rd book, did they? The next time you talk to them, please let them know that there are people like me who would love to read more of their TRs! Lol!

Ooh, that nut and meat pastry really was unexpectedly delicious! That's lovely that you sent them some highlights, I hope they get something out of it, and more importantly I hope they have an amazing time!

I think my spirit of adventure comes from the way mum and dad brought me up - it's okay to be afraid, but be brave and even if you are scared, do it anyway, it may not be as bad as you fear!

I know, it was such a shame - we had so been looking forward to spending time with Robin and Larry. Luckily, and fingers crossed nothing goes wrong, they are meeting up with us later this year in WDW for a week, so my over-dramatic wailings about never seeing them again may have been a bit premature! I didn't know anyone on here had heard of them, let alone read their trip reports. I too loved their reports, it was how we got together in the first place through a mutual love of each other's TRs, and they never did do another book of them. But it was Larry's encouragement that got me into publishing books of my own TRs, and I am currently writing the fourth one! When we see them this year, I'll let them know they need to start writing again, as I loved Larry's humour and Robin's attention to detail in theirs.

I'm glad you're doing your books, I think it's great! I hope you have a great time when you meet up with them at WDW. Days 11 and 12 -- Hong Kong Disneyland sounds like so much fun. So weird how people keep asking for a photo with you or sneaking them if they can.

Starting off with day six now. Oh my goodness, that is funny about that Japanese woman. You’re obviously famous there!

I remember that Venetian boat ride, that was one of the hidden gems at Tokyo DisneySea. It was so much fun.

Oh isn’t Journey to the Centre of the Earth awesome? I wasn’t sure about it, but we had a ball on it!

Wow, messing around with cases on the train system in Tokyo is not fun. I can imagine how the panic would set in down there.

On to day seven – glad you got there with the train tickets in the end. Yes, that is a bit daunting. We lucked out and found a machine straightaway. That shopping trip sounds like real fun. Scary about your DH’s coughing fit though. When you said about the smoking, I was a bit like as I didn’t remember that from when we met you guys – now it makes sense, as he’d obviously given up at that point.

Day eight – you were lucky with the Shinkansen, as those things don’t hang around for anyone! We found it to be amazingly comfortable and so efficient. Why can’t we have trains like that in this country? Oh don’t get me started on that…

Miyajima Island is one of my fondest memory from Japan. We just found it so beautiful and peaceful, and I loved standing there, looking at the Torii gate, knowing this was what the one in Epcot was based on.

Days 13 - 16

Your time in Kowloon and Hong Kong sounded quite lovely. My favorite part was the roof top pool and hot tub where you could watch the sunset. That sounds so very lovely.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't realise there would be a crossover between Disney fan sites, I'm so naïve! Yes, the trip report I wrote where we finally met up with each other was lovely to write, as you wouldn't have believed that I had only ever hooked up with them through trip reports - Robin and I hugged as though we were long-long sisters! I am so looking forward to seeing them both again in October, we have dinner booked at Saana as they are staying in AKL, and also a couple of breakfasts booked at BOG with them too.

It was really bizarre to start with, I was slightly creeped out, but then I just got used to it and ignored it most of the time, apart from the bit that made DH laugh - if I became aware I was being photographed, I would discretely lift my head slightly to decrease my double chin, and suck in the gut!

It was so beautiful - the weather was lovely and warm, and the views were incredible across the bay. I tried to say, "oh, this is so romantic!" to DH but he was busy seeing how high he could lift one leg in the pool before he lost his balance at the time, so it was a bit lost on him ......

Journey to the Centre of the Earth was indeed awesome - I really wished we had ridden it on our first day as well, as by the time we discovered how much fun it was, there was only time to ride it once!

Yeah, DH had been brilliant with quitting smoking and had happily been an ex-smoker for 7 years. Then we had a bit of a potentially traumatic time with my son's wedding, and meeting up with my ex who we hadn't seen for many years, and although it was all okay in the end and we managed to totally ignore each other for the whole event, the sheer worry of seeing him again made DH turn to cigarettes again, albeit on a much smaller scale than he used to smoke. It has made him susceptible to chest infections this time round, and I am hoping that he very soon decides enough is enough again - this is something he has to do for himself, there isn't anything I can really do without sounding like a nagging wife!

Did you see the deer on the island? So funny, the way they just wander around amongst people without any real fear, attempting to nibble on handbags, scarves and unguarded fingers! But it was indeed a lovely island, and I'm so glad we went there.

You are completely right. I've known so many people give up, but all because they wanted to. We equally know other people who their families would love to give up, but they just can't, which is such a shame.

I think we did - to be honest, we saw so many deer, I forget now. I remember seeing them in quite a few places in Kyoto, which we visited before Miyajima, so it may be by the time we got to the island, we were like "oh look, it's another deer...."
