The Promise of Spring: Flower & Garden Festival 4.0 -- A Cam and Luke TR COMPLETED 8/27 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm writing down all the Photo shots with the special effects. I love the Beauty and the Beast, not to mention my favorite character Sebastian!!!!!! WOW, the number of FP's you snagged is remarkable!!
I'm thinking I saw a list of magic shots somewhere. Not sure where now.
For us it's a game to see how many FPs we can get while at MK.

Thanks! I was surprised to discover the Beauty & the Beast border, but really liked it. Maybe it will still be there when you all visit.

At least on our first MK day, we go a little crazy getting FPs. The minute Luke saw Peter Pan pop up on the app, he told me to grab it.
You guys really made good use of the Fastpass system. I do not beliveve that we have ever scored that many in a day. The new B&tB border is very interesting. We still have pix from our last trip that have not been downloaded. Gonna take a look to see if I can add that border to one of ours.

Oooh! I hadn't had that thought. I still have a few from our two trips in 2016 that haven't expired yet. I'll have to take time to check tomorrow.
NEXT: A “Cool” View of the Festival of Fantasy Parade
Day 2 Part 4 Friday, April 28, 2017
We were both very thirsty and decided we wanted cokes on the rocks. Luke suggested Casey’s Corner, and we headed back to Main Street. While Luke ordered and waited for our drinks, I wandered around getting photos of the theming that I typically overlook.
Due the heat, we opted to sip our drinks while also browsing the shops on this side of Main Street. I had a few items that I was searching for a pair of lounge pants, a Wishes t-shirt, and a couple of dish towels. Right off in the shop right next to Casey’s, I found two pairs of lounge pants that I liked. When I asked Luke which I should get, he asked why I could only get one. I told me because that I only get one at a time. He laughed and said, “Get both.” I love this man! One pair is blue striped with navy blue Stitches all over and the other is Mickey, Donald, and Goofy and their morning vibes.
We checked out this entire shop before moving on, but neither of us picked anything else up. I did see a few other item I really liked, but I wanted to see what else I’d find during the trip. We moved further into the shop until we reached a section with an entire display devoted to Wishes. I quickly found a t-shirt my size, and even a smaller Tervis tumbler.
When we’d entered Casey’s, we had noted the crowd already lined up all along Main Street for the Festival of Fantasy parade, but didn’t give it much thought as we could see all the prime spots were taken. Besides that fact, we really needed some air conditioning. Well, I moved over to the window in this section right beside, but not in the way of, the door. Initially, I just thought I’d watch a little bit of the parade, but then Luke and I realized we really had a great spot. We could see the parade from the coziness of the air-conditioned shop. I didn’t even attempt to take any photos. 1. I had two pairs of lounge pants, a t-shirt, a tumbler, and a drink in my hands already. 2. All the photos would have had lots of heads as I’m vertically challenged. 3. It was way more relaxing to just watch and absorb the magic. Once the parade had passed us by, we moved on into the Emporium’s main shop. We must have looked at every single pair of dishtowels available before finally settling on the set we bought. They really do look cute in my kitchen.
With the dishtowels filling out our shopping list, Luke and I headed to the cashier at the back of the front of the store. When I mentioned that we had an Annual Pass, the CM checking me out told me that I probably should get the AP Wishes t-shirt instead. I hadn’t seen those at all. I started to turn to go where she said they were, but she was already headed after one, telling me she’d be right back. So we swapped the AP for the regular t-shirt. She really was the perfect Disney CM.
From the Emporium, we crossed the street now headed for Uptown Jewelers and the Pandora Store. Luke had already told me that I could get whatever I wanted for my Mother’s Day present while we were at WDW. After having looked over the Mother’s Day items on Pandora’s website, I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted. We walked through the entire store as I checked out all the displays, and then I found the Mother’s Day charms. Once I saw the Mother/Daughter charm up close, I knew it would be the perfect addition to my bangle bracelet. That decided I also notice something I didn’t know about: Mickey and Minnie heads that clip on to hold the other charms in place. I already had clips, but they weren’t Disney, so Luke told me to get those, too. Again, I love this man. The CMs here let me know that my bangle is as full as it can be safely, and I had already decided that my bracelet wouldn’t be comfortable with any more. Now I just need to add a few more charms to my Pandora bracelet bought on our 2014 cruise.
The inside of the hearts have Mother and Daughter etched on them.
Mickey head clip
The back of each heart says "You will always be in my heart." The word heart is actual a heart shaped crystal.
We still had some time before our Jungle Cruise FastPass, and as we wandered back onto Main Street, we decided to get some more PhotoPass shots with the castle in the background. We really had a good time with this photographer who was so chipper in spite of the heat that just was not letting up at all. I like all of them, but especially the magic shot with Luke holding the balloons. It says happy! 😃
That didn’t quite fill up the time before our Jungle Cruise FastPass, so I asked if we could go to Mickey’s Star Traders where there is usually a selection of Stitch merchandise because I really wanted a t-shirt to match my new lounge pants. It didn’t take us long to make the walk, and I had been correct that there was a plenty of Stitch goodies. I found two t-shirts I liked, finally opting for a blue one with a foil like Stitch on front.
Finally, it was time for our Jungle Cruise FastPasses. The FastPass queue was quite short, so we found ourselves quickly boarding a boat to sail the world’s famous rivers. Our Skipper Candice told every classic corny joke with perfect deadpan humor. Unfortunately, our cruise was over way too soon and we disembarked back at Adventureland, wondering what to do next.
Luke suggested we take a round-trip on the Walt Disney World Railroad. By this point in a very hot day, the idea of an extended sit down sounded heavenly. From Adventureland we headed for Frontierland, climbing the stairs just in time to miss the departing train. I don’t remember the length of our wait but it didn’t seem too long. Luke directed me toward the back of the train where we easily found an empty row. Luke takes great train photos so I handed him the camera and told him to take whatever he wanted. I have some cool train scrapbook paper that I want to use for this. For the most part though we sat back and enjoyed the narration and the cooling breeze created as we traveled the circuit.
When we arrived back in Frontierland, we give directions on where to unload. Immediately, I turned back to Luke because we’ve never gotten off this exited this way before, and it was rather cool, bringing us out by Splash Mountain where we took advantage of the restrooms.
At this point, we were pretty much done in, but we still had our dinner dining reservation. In hopes of relaxing nearby we headed on to check in early at Be Our Guest for our 7:25 PM dinner. At check-in I gave the my cell number and was told we’d receive a text when we were to moved down front to meet a host/hostess. We did find an empty bench and took a load off our feet. Unfortunately, our seats caused Luke some later back pain. His back does not like backless seating. But the pain won’t hit until we’re back at the room. Anyway, about 15 minutes later, I received the all important text that our table was ready. We walked down, but no host/hostess was waiting for us, so we stood for a little longer.
Finally, someone came for us and took us to a two-top in the ballroom. It was so pleasant to be inside in the air conditioning in comfy seats.
Our server Monique was very upbeat and cheerful. First, we chose our beverages. Luke got a nice safe Coke Zero while I chose the Charles de Fère, Jean Louis Blanc de Blancs, France, a sparkling wine. Quite delicious! I was in the mood for greens, so I got a Garden Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette as my starter. Of course at dinner there is also the bread service with crusty rolls and sea salt butter. In choosing an entrée, Luke and I both selected the Grilled Strip Steak with Garlic-Herb Butter and Pommes Frites, and we both loved it.
Twice during the meal, the Master passed through the ballroom.
In the end, we agreed we were both too full for dessert, so once our entrees were done, we paid up and headed to the library to meet the beast. While we were waiting in line, a young girl in a motorized wheelchair was brought in with her family and moved to the front. Beast’s interaction with her had me in tears. So precious! When it was our turn, the interaction was not nearly as emotional, but still quite amicable.
Before we ate, we both agreed that Wishes was out for tonight because we didn’t want to rush eating to make it. We had two other nights where it worked into plans. We left the Beast’s castle right at 9:00 and seconds later we saw Wishes going off to our right and to our left. I was starting to feel not right, nothing particular at that point and I chalked it up to being in the heat for so much of the day. We were now making a bee line for the exit, even using the walkway behind Main Street. It wasn’t officially open, but none of the several CMs we saw said a word to us. While walking to the Animal Kingdom bus stop at Magic Kingdom, we caught bits of both Illuminations and Star Wars. Cool – snippets of three different fireworks all in a matter of minutes. Back at the room, we unpacked our purchases and got ready for bed. We were spent. Lights out at 10:45. At 2:00 I was awakened by an unhappy tummy that didn’t resolve itself until I took Imodium. But once I took the Imodium, my stomach settled and then I could go right back to sleep.

PS Because I didn’t take notes, I am having to piece my memories together and it is slow going. Besides that Luke and I are in full spring/summer project mode, so my time to write has been limited. This may be the longest it will take me to ever finish a trip report, but I’m going to shorten my updates so I can get updates posted a little more frequently.
What a great MK day. You made some awesome purchases! And I love that you found a cool way to watch the parade! Dinner at the Beast's castle looked delicious!
