The Promise of Spring: F&GF 4.0 UPDATED: 5/11 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry to hear about your frozen shoulder, but glad that the therapy is working for you!

I'm really hoping tomorrow is my last day of O/T as my shoulder is moving so well now.

I'm excited to see your pics of the festival though.
Sorry about your shoulder. I was having problems with my right one a few yrs ago and Pilates fixed me up good in the shoulder dept!! Have you tried Pilates? I think it would be good for you, low impact and lots of stretching.
I'm excited to read more planning for you guys!!
Sorry you're missing out on a spring trip, but now I'm wondering if you all might be there in November when we will be there. Actually, we don't have specific dates yet, but by April we'll have settled on those. I've never tried Pilates, but I think my church's recreation program might offer a class. Now I need to check on that.

My right shoulder was cured with acupuncture after six months of that procedure and then I got it in the left shoulder which I had to go to PT for and it helped it after about 6 weeks. I was religious in doing my exercises at home and thank goodness it healed. It comes back now and then but doesn't last more than a week most times.
My O/T therapists mentioned that I could get it in the other shoulder and that it can come back. So I'm going to keep up with the stretches she has given me.
Ugh...I had a frozen shoulder a couple years ago. It took about 6 weeks of PT and a lot of time, but it's completely back to normal. Glad you're recuperating so quickly!
I didn't realize how common frozen shoulder must be. So glad to know that you are back to normal.

As we’ve gotten older, food has become just as important as attractions for us. But after our October trip when we had several ADRs canceled due to Hurricane Matthew or family engagements, Luke and I thought we would make fewer dining reservations for 2017 spring trip. Having fewer ADRs meant more flexibility with our park time plus savings for the budget in October, so why not cut back. So on the morning of October 29 when I could finally make ADRs, there were only five restaurants on our list: Morimoto Asia and Sanaa, our two must dos along with Be Our Guest, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, and Rose & Crown. Our list would stay that way until November 7, and I blame this addition on reading a trip report and seeing someone’s photo on Facebook. Because we love Southern home cooking, Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming looked like a place we shouldn’t pass up. Think biscuits and fried chicken!
At that point we still only had six reservations. Then back in January (the 24th to be exact) Luke e-mailed me a link to the new menu at Planet Hollywood Observatory. He was hoping the filet mignon would entice me to make another ADR. Love this guy! Actually, I think it will be fun to try out this refurbed restaurant, especially since it has been over ten years since we last ate here. Okay, if you are counting, we are now up to 7 ADRs.
Those 7 stood until February 9 when we learned that Rivers of Light dining packages were now available and that the long-awaited show would begin showing on the 17th. For our first experience of the show, Luke and I decided to get guaranteed seating as well as try out a new restaurant, Tiffins. Add ADR #8. While I was on the Disney site, I thought I’d just check on Boma, just to see what might be available. We typically eat here whenever we stay at Jambo House, but hadn’t really thought about it when I made the original ADRS. Guess what, there was a dinner opening, so add ADR #9. I had also just read Cheryl’s TR where she met Ann and Carly at The Boathouse, and wondered if there was anywhere we could fit it in. I checked our flights home and asked Luke if he thought we could make lunch there before our DME pick up. Add ADR #10.
So much for fewer ADRS. We have left our first Epcot day completely open to afford us plenty of opportunities at the F&GF food booths.
Recapping with dates and times:
Thursday, April 27 – Morimoto Asia @ 8:00 PM
Friday, April 28 – Be Our Guest @ 7:25 PM
Saturday, April 29 – Flower & Garden Festival food booths
Sunday, April 30 – Sci-Fi Dine-In @ 6:10 PM
Monday, May 1 – Tiffins with Rivers of Light Dining Package @ 5:10 PM
Tuesday, May 2 – Rose & Crown Pub @ 7:45 PM (This meal will be with friends – more on that later.)
Wednesday, May 3 – Planet Hollywood Observatory @ 7:45 PM
Thursday, May 4 – Boma @ 7:40 PM
Friday, May 5 – Sanna @ 7:10 PM
Saturday, May 6 – Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming
Sunday, May 7 – The Boathouse
In conclusion, we won’t be coming home with empty bellies. But hopefully, all the walking will keep the weight off.
Our trip in May is short on ADRs too. So far only 5 (one each day we are there). Also - your ADRs look very yummy. We are trying Art Smith's Homecoming in May - so can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! And I am hoping you like Boathouse - I really enjoy it and I would definitely go back!! Happy eating!!!

LOL!!! I love the list of ever growing ADR's. We always start of with a small one as well.............but then, we all know how that goes.
Great choices and time slots!!
Loved your growing ADR list - too cute with Luke's suggestions. I think the times that you have chosen will lend itself to ample time to get stuff accomplished before easing into your night.
Love all the plans so far. So many similar to choices we will be making when we go back, sadly not till 2019 as we are going to Aulani again next year.
(Another one with a previously frozen shoulder problem - steroid injections and gentle exercise/stretching got rid of it, but I was told it could recur in the other shoulder too!)
Plans look great so far, laughing at the ADR increase though - we are going QSDP this year, (we normally go table service as we get free dining at the time we book, but this year we are going for a different resort for a change), and AT THE MOMENT are relishing the idea of having a bit more freedom around the parks, without having to be anywhere specific to dine. However, in my head I'm taking bets as to how long it will be before DH starts to realise this means that unless we pay out of pocket, there will be no free Trail's End dinner, no free Hollywood Brown Derby, Mama Melrose's Fantasmic Dining package, 50's Prime Time Café, Crystal Palace, Be our Guest dinner, Yak & Yeti dinner, etc. etc.! I give him until, ooh, about August? Hahaha!

Your dining plans sound wonderful!! If it's any consolation, we do the same thing!! We always wind up booking way more anyway so I don't know why we fight it!!
Your dining plans look great! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of some of the new restaurants. I'm hoping to add a couple of them to my October trip.
