Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier-WDW PTR - UPDATED 10/9 - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm not giving too much hope on this as the show is a week from this Saturday on the 15th. My guess is the problem arose by going directly through the box office and not Disney as that was the only way I could get the tickets I wanted, It certainly helped being persistent on this, but a bit of inconvenience on the other end unfortunately! Although, they said the tix were shipped, but who knows!
I'm sure it will all work out overall, but it would be better to just have the tickets before my trip without having to get them at the box office before the show. I may try to get them on the 15th before heading to Studios on this day as I'm staying in Disney Springs as the lines could be long for pick up just prior to the show. I plan to call them about this shortly!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Sunday, September 4th With all of the new additions in WDW from eateries, shows and other experiences, there is just so much one can do on a trip. One thing I want to do is see the Star Wars Fireworks Galactic Spectacular show. I only have one day in Studios so far, which is arrival day and I’m seeing La Nouba later that evening, so this won’t be possible on this day. I want to fit this in somehow, but this will take some figuring out!
I checked the Disney website for the Star Wars show, but it’s only on certain nights. Sunday, October 16th, would be possible, but no show that night. The other possibility is for Friday, October 21st, which is my last full day in WDW and there is a show that night. From the reviews of this show, it seems like a winner and something I definitely want to see as I have always enjoyed the Star Wars movies, since I was young. I may also do the dessert party as it sounds like a fun event and you get a great viewing location for the show. It’s a bit pricey at $69, but may be worth it. As of now bookings for the dessert party are only available through September 30th. I’m sure reservations for my dates should be opening up soon!
I cancelled my Kona Café ADR for Wednesday, October 20th at 8:35 pm as I probably won’t be able to get out of Epcot until about 6 pm at the earliest as my Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It seminar doesn’t end until 5:15 pm. It wouldn’t give me much time at the Polynesian to explore the resort and visit Trader Sam’s before dinner. I am also considering just doing a whole day at the F&W Festival, like I am on Monday, October 17th. I replaced Kona Café with Flying Fish for the time being.
During the day, I updated all of my new plans and changes in MDE. I also linked my Magic Band and had no problem doing this as some have had. Everything is good!
So now, it’s time I get to work on this and attempt to squeeze in the Star Wars show…
Originally, Sunday October 16th was meant to be spent in the morning in Animal Kingdom and early in the evening at Epcot for Illuminations and dinner on the Boardwalk. With my desire to see the Star Wars show this has certainly changed. I now plan to spend the morning in Magic Kingdom and then an arrival in the Animal Kingdom sometime in the afternoon, so I can experience it at night. My original plan was to do this in the AK on my last full day on Friday, October 21st, but a definite change of plans as I will now be in Studios that day!
I made an ADR for Tiffin's on Sunday, October 16th at 4:50 pm. I cancelled my original Flying Fish ADR for this day at around 6 pm. I will be in the AK prior to dinner and after to take in the new AK experiences and enhancements. After leaving the Magic Kingdom, I will walk to the Contemporary Resort and take a bus to the AK from there.
Now Sunday is all set and just need to work out my Friday plans!
At 9am on Friday, I have a spa treatment at the B Resort. I should be back to my room by 10:30 am, where I will do some packing and get things ready for check out and leaving things out I will need for departure day tomorrow. I will also call Mears Transportation and make my reservation for pickup at my hotel to Orlando Airport. My flight isn’t until 6:15 pm, so I will be able to spend some time in the parks on Saturday and a good lunch at Chefs de France. I plan on a pickup of around 3 pm or so and will go back to my resort after lunch at around 1:30 pm or so. This should be ample time and will probably take a Disney bus to Disney Springs from Epcot or use the Disney Springs bus system, but Disney’s is probably the better choice.
For the rest of my Friday plans, I intend to be in Studios by 12:30pm and use some Fastpass+ reservations. I know that the Star Wars dessert party will be starting at 6:45 pm, so the idea was to make an ADR for a lunch between 2-4 pm. I originally, had an ADR for HBD for departure day (Saturday) as I intended to visit Studios on this day, but changed it to Epcot once I started thinking about seeing the Star Wars show.
I decided that I should try an eatery that I’ve never dined at before in Studios or one that I haven’t in a long time. I dined at HBD a few years ago and always love it, but I looked at some of the others as well. I wasn’t interested in H&V as many the reviews are not that positive. I’m not sure if Prime Time would be the best for a solo diner. I dined at Sci-Fi on my first ever WDW trip in 2002 and liked it, but now the menu isn’t n nearly as appealing. I finally, settled on Mama Melrose’s as I’ve never dined there and most of the reviews are pretty positive and the menu looks good. Living in the northeastern part of the country, we are known for Italian food in the NYC area, but it will be tough for MM’s to live up to that! As long as it’s good, I will be happy!
I went on the Disney website and checked out the availability for ADRs at Mama Melrose’s. There was an ADR for 2:25 pm and I booked it! I will make this as an early dinner as it will be big meal as it’s Italian cuisine and do the dessert party a few hours later. I probably won’t be having dessert at MM’s and may get an extra appetizer instead as I will be indulging in a plethora of desserts, just hours later!
I cancelled my prior ADR for this day at Tiffin’s for 6:10 pm.
Now all that was left was the waiting game for reservations to open up for the dessert party!
NEXT: I Have a Good Feeling About This Today!

Those switches all sound good to me!! If the Star Wars party is important to you, then you should do it!! We love the Sci Fi dine inn but more for the atmosphere than the food. We've eaten at Mama Melsoses a couple of times and enjoyed it also. getting the dessert party ADR!!

It took a lot of work and reorganizing and all fell into place rather well! The dessert party sounds like a fun event and I know Donna (DMA) and her family really enjoyed it on their recent trip. I did enjoy the atmosphere at Sci-Fi but like "Her Dotness"...."It's Always About The Food!" Hoe I can get the dessert party ressie, so stay tuned!

Hope you're able to get the ressie for the dessert party. That's alot of changes. Glad that it all worked out.
It was a lot of changes and was the only way I could work in the Star Wars show and hopefully the dessert party!

You won't regret the Star Wars Fireworks, they are amazing. Be sure you have some trinkets for trading with the Jawa that are wandering around in the dessert party. As near as I can tell, they do enjoy those light up bracelets and such.
We did H&V this last trip and found it to be a pretty good meal for a buffet. Of course, it's Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy all done up for Halloween right now. We haven't done MM in a while.
They sound like good changes to me. We didn't get to see the Star Wars fireworks on our trip and I do feel sorry about that.
That's too bad! It took a lot of organizing to get this show to fit into my plans!

Your plans certainly are coming together
Glad you enjoyed the fireworks and thanks for the tip for the dessert party. It's taken a lot of work but I'm happy with my plans and that all has worked out with them!
