Mema and Papa are doing WHAT? PTR - UPDATED 8/15 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Finally got onboard with your ptr. How wonderful, spending such quality time with your grandchildren. I'm impressed you're keeping it a secret. Don't know if I could, all that excitement would bubble over.

NoVA too? We are in PWC.
Yep - we're in Reston. Spoiling is definitely fun! I love spoiling my cousin's son - just waiting for him to get a little older to have some Disney fun with him, but already planning what presents I'm getting him when we go home in a few weeks. Anything and everything Dory, Buzz, and Woody!

OK, not trying to derail this TR too much, but I'm in Reston, too! It's a small world, after all......
You made some great ADRs. The shirts sound awesome! I'm sure the grandkids are going to get extra spoiled
Thanks! I'm sure they will too...and not all by me, even though Papa will try to tell everyone it's MY fault!

Hey! That's not a bad idea!! Colleen, we've probably seen each other at the store or something and never even known it! lol That's the magic of Disney - friends far and near!!
Well, as I alluded to in the previous post, we all know how Disney planning goes! I don’t know if it’s because we have to do it all so far in advance and something else comes up…but as usual, our plans began to change. The first change was a biggie.
I’m flying down solo a few days before Papa and the littles, and I’m flying on United on miles. Since it was a one-way trip, it seemed a good use for them as I don’t have enough for a round-trip. I was going to drive back with them on the 30th. I WAS.
Nearly every Sunday, our family all gathers at our house for dinner and talk. All four of the littles get to play with each other and we get to love on them. We also use this time for planning our trips or adventures. This particular Sunday, about mid-May, shortly after our return from Aulani (oh I want to go back), our DDiLs both began to razz Papa about his plan to drive down with the littles…by himself. And it began to play on his mind.
The next day at work, my phone rang and it was Papa. So, he was just ‘playing around’ on line and found tickets pretty cheaply for the littles and himself to fly down on Sunday on Southwest, and return on Friday, but instead of leaving early on Friday to drive home, we could actually stay until later in the day and use that extra day on the littles’ tickets on Friday at MK. What did I think. I thought it was a GREAT IDEA!
However, he continued, it was flying out of Reagan National Airport (not our preferred airport) and he was trying to figure out how to get me back around the same time. Ummm, dear? I have a one-way ticket now out of Dulles. I don’t have to fly back to Dulles, I could just fly back on the same flight as you and the littles on a…wait for it…one way ticket.
Well, yeah! That will work! Now why didn’t I think of that! Added to the convenience, Papa works at the Pentagon and has parking privileges. So he and the littles will drive to the Pentagon, park, hop on the metro and in three stops, or less than 10 minutes, be at the airport! Coming back, the flight lands at 7:30 PM, it will be an easy hop back to the car and head for home! We should be home and have the littles tucked up in bed by 9.
But that meant some shifting of some meals. Now that we are planning to spend the day at MK, we neither felt like having a heavy breakfast starting out. There were some other things that shifted for us as well. So we began to play around with our dining reservations and consider some changes…
And this is what we ended up with:
Sunday 25th – Whispering Canyon Café—we kept this and still plan to utilize the pool at Bay Lake, perhaps go to Disney Springs…
Monday 26th - Be Our Guest, MK (dinner)—we changed this to Hollywood & Vine Minnie’s Seasonal Dinner—I wanted a character meal, but not Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey’s as we do this all the time. The menu at BoG was not going to appeal to DGS at all.
Tuesday 27th – Coral Reef, EP (dinner)—we moved Garden Grill here from Wednesday.
Wednesday 28th –Garden Grill, --this changed to Tony’s Town Square.
Thursday 29th –this changed to Liberty Tree Tavern…because we have MNSSHP tickets for this night!!!
Friday 30th Ohana, Poly, (breakfast)—canceled this and booked lunch at The Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd Skipper Canteen!
I called Member Svc and changed my DME to reflect that I would in fact be needing DME for the return trip to the airport and booked DME to and from for Papa and the littles. So excited!! While I do love to drive, the extra time in the bubble with the littles is more precious.
The changes seem to be working out and I know I always have some changes to mine!

So does this mean you have Minnie's Seasonal Dine for dinner on Monday? Because my aunt Ann (Luvsun) and I will be there that night as well?
Also does this mean you are eating breakfast at Garden Grille on Tuesday morning? Because we have a morning ADR there as well too!

Yes! We have Minnie's Seasonal Dine on Monday evening at 5:15.
But our Garden Grill is dinner on Tuesday. We mostly do breakfast in our room/pick up something counter service unless it's last day...and even last day this trip!
